It’s not every day we write about the bond markets (youÂ’re welcome), but itÂ’s also not every day we hear reports that China is considering slowing, or even stopping altogether, purchasing U.S. Treasuries. The news sent yields higher as investors got the jitters and sold off bonds. HereÂ’s why this matters: Although it seems China and the U.S. are rivals, more accurately weÂ’re “rivals with benefits.” China currently owns $1.2 trillion in U.S. debt, the largest foreign holder (JapanÂ’s #2). And it might be perfectly happy with that number. With inflation expected to grow alongside the global economy, hitching your wagon to fixed income (e.g. governmen…

The Wikileaks co-founder has been granted an Ecuadorian ID card, as a step towards ending his five-year confinement in Ecuador's London embassy. The UK Foreign Office has refused a request from Ecuador to grant Assange diplomatic immunity. In a letter to us, the FCO stressed that it would not discuss the matter except to say that the case would only be resolved if Assange leaves the embassy and 'faces justice'.

In a victory for Norpac — and potential blow to local newspapers — the U.S. Department of Commerce announced Tuesday that it will start imposing preliminary antidumping and countervailing duties on Canadian paper producers. The move comes in response to a petition filed in August in which the Longview papermaker alleged that Canadian paper manufacturers hold an unfair advantage over domestic producers. Norpac claimed that Canadian paper companies benefit from 65 different subsidies that add up to hundreds of millions of dollars. “TodayÂ’s affirmative decision by the Department of Commerce confirms that Canadian uncoated groundwood papers benefit from signifi…

Famed actor Arnold Schwarzenegger posted a photo of him sleeping on the street under his famous bronze statue, and sadly wrote "how times have changed". The reason he wrote the phrase was not only because he was old, but because when he was governor of California he inaugurated a hotel with his statue. Hotel staff told Arnold, "at any moment you can come and have a room reserved for you." when Arnold stepped down as governor and went to the hotel, the administration refused to give him a room arguing that he should pay for it, since they were in great demand. He brought a sleeping bag and stood underneath the statue and explained what he wanted to convey: "When …

Cuba Embassy Attacks on U.S Diplomats State Department officials testified about the attacks on U.S. diplomats in Cuba before a Foreign Relations subcommittee chaired by Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL). Several questions to the witnesses focused on the timeliness of the State Department’s response to the attacks, the health and medical treatment of personnel affected, the possibility of the involvement of a third party, and future relations with the Cuban government. Several committee members determined that a future classified briefing would be needed to address more sensitive questions about the attacks. Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnatio…

Iconic Australian surf brand Quiksilver is purchasing its hometown rival Billabong for $300 million. Kyles, Tylers, and Blakes everywhere are freaking out. ThatÂ’s because if you didnÂ’t wear a Billabong or Quiksilver shirt in sixth grade to complement your long hair and seashell necklace, you werenÂ’t cool. But neither company has been especially cool lately. Billabong wiped out in 2013, admitting its brand was a thing of the past. And Quiksilver hung zero when it filed for bankruptcy in 2015. Luckily, PE shop Oaktree Capital was there to scoop up Quiksilver. And after two years of financial CPR, itÂ’s hoping a Quiksilver-Billabong duo will be gna…

Embattled film and television studio The Weinstein Company (TWC) entered talks with Tom Barrack’s PE firm Colony Capital to sell most or all of its assets. At minimum, TWC’s getting an influx of emergency cash. That’s because the studio has been engulfed in controversy, as dozens of women have come forward accusing its former co-chairman, Harvey Weinstein, of serial sexual abuse. The backlash has prompted four board members to walk away from the dumpster fire, and brought business dealings to a screeching halt. Colony Capital has played Superman before In 2009, the firm bought the Neverland Ranch for $22.5 million from a desperate Michael Jackson, and just…

I am considering using a logo instead of just "World Forum"..... anyone want to be creative and make a logo for consideration? It needs to be simple.... recognized internationally... and by that I mean there are many language groups on this website.... it needs to look good small and very small for the .ico version..... Any ideas? I am also open to new names... World Forum just seems simpler to me that The World News Media. or World News Media plus those are English specific..... hmmm... You can see how this is a tough one. And no... I can't change the URL to something other than TheWorldNewsMedia.org

My life is brilliant. My life is brilliant. My love is pure. I saw an angel. Of that I'm sure. She smiled at me on the subway. She was with another man. But I won't lose no sleep on that, 'Cause I've got a plan. You're beautiful. You're beautiful. You're beautiful, it's true. I saw your face in a crowded place, And I don't know what to do, 'Cause I'll never be with you. Yes, she caught my eye, As we walked on by. She could see from my face that I was, Flying high. [ - video/radio edited version] And I don't think that I'll see her again, But we shared a moment that will last 'til the end. You're beautiful. You're beautiful. Y…
