Ahead of the 12th launch of a Cargo Dragon on August 14th, SpaceX conducted a successful static fire of the first stage of the Falcon 9 launch vehicle earlier this morning. While fans sadly did not receive the usual photo of the static fire, Core 1039 and its Dragon cargo will provide plenty of stunning visuals as they lift off on route to the International Space Station at 12:31 p.m. EST on Monday. As reported yesterday, CRS-12 will mark the the return to orbital flights for the United States. Tesla is in the planning stages to open a new sales and service center in Redwood City, just several miles from the company’s Palo Alto headquarters. The Daily Journal has obtained plans that the EV company submitted for the 23,000-square-foot retail space, which is located at the intersection of Whipple Avenue and Veterans Boulevard west of Highway 101. The lot will house a repair garage, warehouse and sales office. This location will put in an area that is flush with auto dealers. The Tesla location will place the company directly next to Land Rover, and in close proximity to auto dealers Lexus, Mazda, Toyota, Volkswagen, INFINITI, Subaru, Chevrolet, Nissan and the Bo…

Men's sexist attitudes 'shaped by first exposure to pornography'
by Guest Nicole- 2 replies

The age at which a male first sees pornography is associated with certain sexist attitudes later in life, according to a team of researchers from the University of Nebraska. Their survey revealed the younger the first viewing occurred, the more likely a male was to want power over women. While if they were older, they were more likely to be sexually promiscuous. Of the 330 undergraduates surveyed, with a median age of 20, the average age they first saw pornography was 13. The youngest was only five, while the oldest was 26. The unpublished findings were presented at a convention in Washington. Playboy lifestyle Lead researcher Alyssa Bis…

Investors may be keen on funding Tesla CEO Elon Musk. After a meeting with bond buyers on Monday, investors ordered $600 million in bonds after just a few hours. The meeting was part of a four-day effort for Musk to raise $1.5 billion in bonds to fund Model 3 production as it ramps up. Musk has already tapped members of the equity market for capital eight times in the past seven years, according to Bloomberg. Low interest rates also seem to help investment. “It’s a great deal for them, which by definition means it can’t be a great deal for the investors,” said Marty Fridson, chief investment officer of Lehmann, Livian, Fridson Advisors LLC. “The reason they’re …

Redeeming an ETF
by Guest- 2 replies

When investors want to sell their ETF holdings, they can do so by one of two methods. The first is to sell the shares on the open market. This is generally the option chosen by most individual investors. The second option is to gather enough shares of the ETF to form a creation unit, and then exchange the creation unit for the underlying securities. This option is generally only available to institutional investors due to the large number of shares required to form a creation unit. When these investors redeem their shares, the creation unit is destroyed and the securities are turned over to the redeemer. The beauty of this option is in its tax implications for the portfol…

Just curious about the differences over the very long term (40 years) There are fees with sector ETF's.... but the diversification would mitigate the risk as well.

Pro-union workers at Tesla’s Fremont factory are worried about safety at the plant as Tesla CEO Elon Musk and the company enter Model 3 “production hell.” Two pro-union workers at the Fremont facility told Business Insider that there could be issues with the production line and worker safety. Tesla allegedly skipped a trial on new assembly line equipment, and issues with that equipment could lead to worker injury, according to the two workers. In addition to assembly line tests, the workers expressed concern for the “production hell” that will descend on the factory this fall. Because of the heightened expectations surrounding production, the two workers fear that …

“It is time for states and governors to lead,” Gov. David Ige said. Hawaiian Gov David Ige (D) signed two new climate bills into law on Tuesday that adhere to the Paris Agreement. Hawaii has become the first American state to pass environmental measures that adhere to the Paris climate agreement, just days after President Donald Trump announced the U.S. withdrawal from the international pact. “Truly, in this day and age, it is time for states and governors to lead,” Hawaiian Gov. David Ige (D) said at a press conference on Tuesday, ahead of signing the two bills into law. Senate Bill 559 and House Bill 1578 commit to expanding methods to reduce gr…

Tesla’s Supercharger network will be making its way to a city near you, as the company looks to increase the number of charging stations in urban areas. The roll out of Tesla’s urban charger network is part of the company’s strategy to accommodate apartment dwelling Tesla owners that may not have access to a private garage with charging. By providing drivers with access to the Supercharger network within a city, Tesla is making charging more practical for a new demographic of Model 3 buyers that presumably reside in more urban locations. Tesla announced earlier in the year that it looks to more than double the number of Superchargers and quadruple its Destination Cha…

There should be a non-capped 10% Flat Tax in the USA on everyone including corporations. The US National debt would disappear and Social Security would be funded. Inequality would change course rather quickly and the middle class would reappear. Once the national debt is gone... then we should peg the US dollar back to gold to control the spending habits of our politicians. Not that I am a fan of personal income taxes. I would prefer consumption taxes over income taxes. (not sure how I feel about both existing simultaneously) ===================================== Sales taxes are regressive and hit the poorest the hardest. They should be aboli…

1) Take Inventory Before you even go to the grocery store, it is important to look into your pantry and fridge to evaluate what you need to buy. This exercise will help you stay on budget by making sure you don't spend money on anything extra or something you are already stocked up on. 2) Meal Plan With Coupons Take a look at your local grocery store ads to see what's on sale for the week.
