I used to love it when Watchtower publications would run that Vermont Royster quote. After remarking on how far we have come science-wise, he added: “Yet here is a curious thing. In the contemplation of man himself, of his dilemmas, of his place in the universe, we are little further along than when time began. We are still left with questions of who we are and why we are and where we are going.” It is pretty obvious why Jehovah’s Witnesses would love those words; they make clear that a shallow world of materialism will not do. You can even think those words every time a Kate Spade or Anthony Bourdain takes his life. Or anyone else. Suicide is all the rage today. Peo…

Whoever is for the captivity, to the captivity!—Jer. 15:2. In 607 B.C.E., a massive Babylonian army under the command of King Nebuchadnezzar II invaded the city of Jerusalem. Regarding the bloodbath that followed, the Bible says: “[Nebuchadnezzar] killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary; he felt no compassion for young man or virgin, old or infirm. . . . He burned down the house of the true God, tore down the wall of Jerusalem, burned all its fortified towers with fire, and destroyed everything of value.” (2 Chron. 36:17, 19) The destruction of Jerusalem should have come as no surprise to its inhabitants. For years, GodÂ’s prophets had…

The US State Department has called on Russia to release all of its political and religious prisoners, urging the government of President Vladimir Putin to cease using its legal system to "suppress dissent and peaceful religious practices". All together, the total number of prisoners the US said are “unjustly imprisoned” exceeds 150. State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said the administration was “deeply concerned” by the KremlinÂ’s increasing detainment of human rights activists and others identifying with minority religious groups across the country. “We call on Russia to release all those identified as political or religious prisoners immediately and c…

The Supreme Court is expected to make a ruling on conscientious objectors who refuse mandatory military service, amid increasing acquittals made by lower courts. According to the Supreme Court on Monday, two cases of conscientious objectors, which two panels of its judges have been reviewing, have been transferred to an “en banc session,” in which all justices of the top court participate in the cases. It has also scheduled a public hearing for the cases on Aug. 30. All able-bodied South Korean men are required to serve in the military for about two years, and only those with “justifiable grounds” are exempted, according to the Military Service Act.In the past, rel…

Russia has said the U.S. government has “no moral right” to demand the release of religious or political prisoners, such as detained JehovahÂ’s Witnesses. On Monday, the U.S. State Department issued a statement calling on Russia to release more than 150 prisoners being held for religious or political reasons. WashingtonÂ’s demand came as Moscow has been rounding up JehovahÂ’s Witnesses in the country. Among other prisoners, the U.S. specifically called for the release of Dennis Christensen, a Danish citizen who has been detained for more than a year due to his affiliation with the religious group. Jarrod Lopes, a communications representative for the World Headquart…

The Gospel of John John 20:28 Thomas answered and said to him, "My Lord and My God." The Trinitarian Claim Mainstream Trinitarian Christians claim that Thomas himself is identifying Jesus as "God." The Claim vs. The Facts The facts that come straight from the very pages of the scriptures in the Bible shows us that Thomas was confessing what Jesus had taught him - to see Jesus is to see the Father (John 14:10-11; 12:44-45). That human flesh named Jesus declares the Father (John 1:18). In fact, the entire point of the Gospel of John is to illustrate how the man Jesus made God the Father known. 1. What Thomas finally believed:…

[Jehovah] skillfully made the heavens.—Ps. 136:5. The universe truly is a marvel of organization. Surely, then, we should expect that Jehovah wants his worshippers to be well-organized. In fact, to that end God has provided the Bible for our guidance. Living without the help of GodÂ’s organization and his standards would result in unhappiness and misery. The people of ancient Israel were a model of organization. Under the Mosaic Law, for example, there were “women who were organized to serve at the entrance of the tent of meeting.” (Ex. 38:8) Later, King David organized the Levites and the priests into effective divisions. (1 Chron. 23:1-6; 24:1-3) The first-centur…

Jehovah's Witnesses believe salvation is a free gift from God attained by being part of "God's organization" and putting faith in Jesus' ransom sacrifice. They do not believe in predestination or eternal security. They believe in different forms of resurrection for two groups of Christians. One group, the anointed, go to heaven while the other group, "the other sheep" or "the great crowd" will live forever on earth. Basis Jehovah's Witnesses teach that salvation is possible only through Christ’s ransom sacrifice[1] and that individuals cannot be saved until they repent of their sins and call on the name of Jehovah.[2] Salvation is described as a free gift from …

There is a scripture that says “not all who partake will enter into the kingdom of heaven” - Contributed [Note to self with the comment someone sent it: He is probably thinking of Matthew 7:21 " "Not everyone who calls me 'Lord, Lord' will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only those who do what my Father in heaven wants them to do."] After doing a little more research: ● How can one determine whether he is of the anointed class, and hence should partake of the Memorial emblems? https://wol.jw.borg/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/2016450?q=memorial+emblems&p=par A 2016 article referencing a 1952 'Questions from Readers', so that's around 50 years of consistent doctrine. Did You Know? You can openly and publicly question if the President of the United States is fit for office. You can question his policies, his statements, and his character. Your family and friends will not be taken away from you. You can openly and publicly question the policies, fitness for office, statements, and character of governors, senators, congressmen, judges, and various other politicians and leaders in the United States. Carry on prayer on every occasion.—Eph. 6:18. How grateful we should be that Jehovah used his holy spirit to reveal the truth to us and to enable us to exercise faith in the good news! (Luke 10:21) We should never cease thanking Jehovah for drawing us to himself through his Son, “the Chief Agent and Perfecter of our faith.” (Heb. 12:2) To show our appreciation for such undeserved kindness, we should keep strengthening our faith through prayer and study of GodÂ’s Word. (1 Pet. 2:2) We should keep exercising our faith in JehovahÂ’s promises. We must do this in ways that are clearly evident to others. For example, we keep on preaching about GodÂ’s Kingdom and sharing …

MANILA - Members of the Jehovah's Witnesses (JWs) have asked Russian President Vladimir Putin's adviser to intervene in the alleged "campaign of terror" against the sect following the arrest of at least 17 members. The wives of the 17 detained JWs, in an open letter to Putin aide Mikhail Fedotov, said dozens more of their fellow believers have been placed under house arrest, while others have been dismissed from their work. The group said law enforcers also seized passports, Bibles and computers from the homes of some of their 175,000 members. "If the Russian government does not quickly put an end to this growing campaign of terror, the administration will be faced wit…
