I think on this forum, but it could be elsewhere, is a brother who used to call on George Wallace, the Alabama governor, with the magazines. He described him as very cordial, and when the brother brought to his attention that violence had been threatened by the Klan at an assembly, Mr. Wallace told the police chief present to see to it. It doesn't come up in a search here. Maybe I got my wires crossed. Does anyone know about this?

Wednesday, June 28. 2017 The harvest is great, but the workers are few.—Matt. 9:37. God’s people have used a variety of methods in order to reach as many as possible with the good news. This was especially important when ‘the workers were few.’ In the early 20th century, newspapers were used to reach large audiences in areas where Jehovah’s people were few in number. Each week, Charles Taze Russell would telegraph a sermon to a newspaper syndicate. In turn, the syndicate retelegraphed the sermon to newspapers in the United States, Canada, and Europe. It is estimated that by 1913, Brother Russell’s sermons were reaching 15,000,000 readers by means of 2,000 newspa…

Proverbs 26:20 "Where there is no wood, the fire goes out, And where there is no slanderer, quarreling ceases." ??? Gossip is idle personal talk; groundless rumor. Slander is defamation, generally malicious, whether oral or written. ??? Gossip can lead to slander, becoming disastrous to the slanderer. The wisdom of the words at Ecclesiastes 10:12-14 is very evident: “The lips of the stupid one swallow him up. The start of the words of his mouth is foolishness, and the end afterward of his mouth is calamitous madness. And the foolish one speaks many words.” ??? Gossip is talk that reveals something about the doings and the affairs of othe…

Was There Really a Garden of Eden? ????? DO YOU know the story of Adam and Eve and the garden of Eden? It is familiar to people around the world. Why not read it for yourself? ????? You will find it at Genesis 1:26–3:24. Here is the gist of the story: Jehovah God* forms a man from the dust, names him Adam, and settles him in a garden in a region called Eden. God himself planted this garden. It is well-watered and abundant with beautiful fruit-bearing trees. At its center is “the tree of the knowledge of good and bad.” ????? God forbids humans to eat from this tree, stating that disobedience will result in death. In time, Jehovah …

"God is greater than our hearts and knows all things." —1 John 3:20. ????? "Jehovah Is “the Rewarder of Those Earnestly Seeking Him” “He that approaches God must believe that he is and that he becomes the rewarder of those earnestly seeking him.”—HEBREWS 11:6 ????? What is meant by the phrase “God is greater than our hearts”? At times, our heart may condemn us, especially when we become painfully aware of our imperfections and shortcomings. Or it may be that because of our background, we have an inordinate tendency to think negatively of ourselves, as if nothing we do could be acceptable to Jehovah. ????? The apostle John’s words assure us…

Ellis and Kay have been married for 44 years. They raised a couple of kids and eventually retired from their jobs. I remember Kay counting the days to her retirement. Now together, they have recently embarked on a new adventure, one of full-time volunteering. They spend their hours in a bible education program, reaching out and helping others to learn the bible which produces transformation in peoples' lives. Ellis recently met John Var, a man that decided at 82 years old that he wanted to learn to read so he could do something he always wanted to: read the bible. Ellis and Kay patiently study with John each week. John Var also enrolled in a literacy program and ha…

105 "Your word is a lamp to my foot, And a light for my path." (Psalms 119:105). ?Trust in Jehovah’s Word ? “I have trusted in your word.”—PSALM 119:42. ??????? JEHOVAH’S word was cherished by the composer of Psalm 119. He may have been Prince Hezekiah of Judah. Sentiments expressed in this inspired song fit the spirit of Hezekiah, who “kept sticking to Jehovah” while serving as king of Judah. (2 Kings 18:3-7) ??????? Hezekiah, who may have written Psalm 119, chose “the way of faithfulness.” He did so even though he was surrounded by false worshipers and may have been ridiculed by members of the royal court. Very likely, ‘his soul …

Confidently Press On With Complete Trust in God! ????? (Psalm 4:8) . . ."In peace I will both lie down and sleep, For you yourself alone, O Jehovah, make me dwell in security." ?????David concludes this psalm with the words: “In peace I will both lie down and sleep, for you yourself alone, O Jehovah, make me dwell in security.” (Ps. 4:8) ????? When the Israelites kept Jehovah’s Law, they were at peace with him and felt secure. For instance, ‘Judah and Israel dwelt in security’ during Solomon’s reign. (1 Ki. 4:25) Those trusting in God enjoyed peace even when neighboring nations were hostile. Like David, we sleep peacefully because God makes us feel se…

ALMIGHTY GOD JEHOVAH - THERE IS ONLY ONE! ????? NOW WHAT SIDE DO YOU WANT TO BE ON? - ITS YOUR DECISION? ~ ????? The word “Almighty” is translated from the Hebrew word Shad·dai′ and the Greek word Pan·to·kra′tor. Both words evidently convey the idea of strength or power. Might implies strength or power to perform and to accomplish a thing purposed, as well as to overcome obstacles or opposition, and Jehovah’s almightiness manifests his irresistible power to accomplish his purpose. ????? Yes, Jehovah is the Almighty God only! His Son is the "Mighty God" mentioned at this verse: (Isaiah 9:6-7) "For there has been a child born to us, ther…

Peter (Pete) Edward Swenson, a long-time resident of Norfolk and Franklin, died after a sudden illness on Monday June 19, 2017. Born on May 21, 1938, to the late Evald N. Swenson and Mary E. (Pendleton) Swenson, he was raised and educated in Norfolk. Peter was a beloved long-time employee of the John Nagle Fish Company in South Boston. His refrigeration skills helped the John Nagle Fish Co. for many years. He had excellent mechanical skills that were a valued commodity by everyone he knew. I wish I could get an answer to this question - it's either yes or no. To become a Jehovah's Witness do you or don't you have to become baptized? I've brought this up before, my neighbor calls herself A Witness even though she hasn't been baptized. Submitted by: Lorraine Chloe

The former things have passed away.—Rev. 21:4. Our loving God always does what is in the best interests of his faithful servants. The Bible tells us: “He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.” What a marvelous future awaits all of us who truly appreciate Jehovah’s love and obey him as our Ruler! Jehovah’s Word tells us: “Take note of the blameless one, and keep the upright one in sight, for the future of that man will be peaceful. But all the transgressors will be destroyed.” (Ps. 37:37, 38) “The blameless one” comes to know Jehovah and his Son and obediently does God’s will. (John 1…
