"No man that has put his hand to a plow and looks at the things behind is well fitted for the kingdom of God." (Luke 9:62) ????? Plowing Plowing was often done in the autumn when rains softened soil that had been baked hard by the sun during the hot summer months. (See App. B15.) Some plows consisted of a simple pointed piece of wood, perhaps metal-tipped, attached to a beam and pulled by one or more animals. After the soil was plowed, the seed was sown. In the Hebrew Scriptures, the familiar work of plowing was often alluded to in illustrations. (Jg 14:18; Isa 2:4; Jer 4:3;Mic 4:3) ????? Jesus frequently used agricultural activities to illu…

"My instruction will drip . . . as gentle rains upon grass." (Deut. 32:2) ??????? Is Your Ministry Like The Dew? OUR ministry is important and valuable. But not everyone we preach to understands this. Even if people are interested in what the Bible says, they do not always feel that it is necessary to study God’s Word with us. ??????? Dew is gentle. Dew forms gradually as moisture in the air turns into small drops of water. How did Jehovah’s words “trickle as the dew”? He spoke to his people in a kind, gentle, and caring way. We imitate him when we show respect for what others believe. We encourage them to reason for themselves and make their own…

Jehovah Blesses and Protects Those Who Are Obedient ???????? Listen, Obey Be Blessed! “As for the one listening to me, he will reside in security and be undisturbed from dread of calamity.” (Proverbs 1:33) ???????? THE fluffy, yellow hatchlings are busily pecking for food in the short grass, totally unaware of a hawk hovering high above. Suddenly, the mother hen gives a tremulous, high-pitched warning call and spreads her wings. Her chicks run to her, and in seconds they are safely concealed beneath her pinions. The hawk aborts its attack.* The lesson? Obedience saves lives! ????? That lesson is especially important to Christians today…

"His enemy came and oversewed weeds in among the wheat."—Matt. 13:25. ???? One of Jesus’ illustrations focuses on the gathering of those who will rule with Jesus in his Kingdom. This is often called the parable of the wheat and the weeds and is recorded in Matthew chapter 13. ???? Whereas in another illustration, Jesus tells us that the seed that is sown is “the word of the kingdom,” in this illustration, he tells us that the fine seed represents something different—“the sons of the kingdom.” (Matt. 13:19, 38) These are not subjects of the Kingdom but, rather, “sons,” or heirs, of the Kingdom. ???? Who is the man who sowed the fine seed in h…

"There are seven kings: five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet arrived."— (Rev. 17:10) ??? The Wild Beasts of Daniel and of Revelation. That the beasts described in these books represent political kingdoms or governments, exercising rulership and authority, is clearly stated. (Da 7:6, 12, 23; 8:20-22; Re 16:10; 17:3, 9-12) A consideration of the Biblical passages reveals that, while these political ‘wild beasts’ vary in symbolic form, yet all have certain characteristics in common. All are shown as standing in opposition to God’s rule by the Messianic Kingdom over mankind. They are also depicted as in opposition to God’s “holy ones,” his covenant people…

You will be like God, knowing good and bad.—Gen. 3:5. Today, all must decide whether they believe that God’s way of doing things is superior to Satan’s or vice versa. In all sincerity, do you take Jehovah’s side by choosing to obey his laws and standards instead of doing things your own way? Do you see his Kingdom as the only answer to mankind’s woes? Or do you believe that man is capable of governing himself? Your answers to these questions will determine how you respond when people ask your opinion on controversial matters. Politicians, activists, and reformers have long struggled to find solutions to divisive issues. Their efforts may be sincere and well-motivated…

My father, Bill Bessette, is a Marine veteran, a loving husband of 36 years, a father to my brother, sister and me, a grandfather to four, and a greatgrandfather as of this year. He served his military time in Vietnam earning awards for his sharpshooting abilities. He worked as a truck driver and bus driver until his retirement a few years ago. The amazing part about my dad is his heart. Although he has health issues, he tries to help others every chance he can. He volunteered the beginning of his retirement helping to build cabinets for the Jehovah’s Witnesses and traveled to Hawaii as a designated representative. My fondest memory of my dad was when I was…

God’s Eternal Purpose for the Earth Jehovah God created the earth for a specific purpose. “This is what Jehovah has said, the Creator of the heavens, He the true God, the Former of the earth and the Maker of it, He the One who firmly established it, who did not create it simply for nothing, who formed it even to be inhabited…

"Hate what is bad, and love what is good." — (Amos 5:15) ????? Those who live up to God’s standards and walk in the divine name are said to fear God’s name. That is not negative or bad. Jehovah assures such ones: “To you who are in fear of my name the sun of righteousness will certainly shine forth, with healing in its wings; and you will actually go forth and paw the ground like fattened calves.” (Malachi 4:2) In the fulfillment of this prophecy, “the sun of righteousness” is Jesus Christ. (Revelation 1:16) ????? He shines forth now with spiritual healing and, in time, will shine forth with physical healing for mankind. The joy of the healed ones is …

"Become imitators of God."—(Eph. 5:1) In the last days of his evil rule, Satan is bent on wiping out the standards of respectful conduct that Jehovah has established. But the Devil will fail to eradicate the good manners of true Christians. May each of us be determined to follow the examples of our gracious God and his Son. Then our speech and conduct will always be in contrast with the actions of those who choose to be ill-mannered. We will bring praise to the name of our well-mannered God, Jehovah, and will attract sincere people to his true worship. Guard Against Deception by Apostates Satan has long used apostates in his efforts to seduce God’s servants…
