Are You on the Road to Holiness? The quality of holiness belongs toJehovah. (Ex 39:30; Zec 14:20) Christ Jesus addressed him as “Holy Father.” (Joh 17:11) Those in the heavens are shown declaring: “Holy, holy, holy is Jehovah of armies,” attributing to him holiness, cleanness in the superlative degree. (Isa 6:3; Re 4:8; compare Heb 12:14.) He is the Most Holy One, superior to all others in holiness. (Pr 30:3; here the plural form of the Hebrew word translated “Most Holy” is used to denote excellence and majesty.) The Israelites were frequently reminded that Jehovah is the Source of all holiness as they observed the words “Holiness belongs toJehovah…

Here is a new book from 2014 by Baran called "Dissent on the Margins How Soviet Jehovah's Witnesses Defied Communism and Lived to Preach About It". This is an excellent 382 page book about "Jehovah's Witnesses and how they survived decades of brutal persecution, and emerged as one of the region's fastest growing religions after the Soviet Union's collapse in 1991. The Soviet state considered Witnesses to be the most reactionary of all underground religious movements, and used extraordinary measures to try and eliminate this threat. Yet the Witnesses survived, while the Soviet system did not. After 1991, they faced continuing challenges to their right to practice their fai…

What Government was Jesus Christ Supporting? What Can We Do today to support God's Government? “Oppose the Devil” as Jesus Did “Oppose the Devil, and he will flee from you.”—JAS. 4:7. Concerning one of the temptations Jesus experienced in the wilderness, the Scriptures state: “The Devil took him along into the holy city, and he stationed him upon the battlement of the temple and said to him: ‘If you are a son of God, hurl yourself down; for it is written, “He will give his angels a charge concerning you, and they will carry you on their hands, that you may at no time strike your foot against a stone.”’” (Matt. 4:5, 6) Supposedly, this would result i…

Here is a book about Christians in Russia during the Cold War era [printed 1964]. Called "The Faith of the Russian Evangelicals" by Pollock. There are several areas that talk about "Jehovah's Witnesses" in Russia. Here is one quote :"Jehovah's Witnesses have spread like wildfire in Russia...have not endeared them to the historic Churches throughout the world, enrage the Soviet authorities. Jehovah's Witnesses are opposed to all governments, most of whom treat them as somewhat a joke. The Soviet Government treat them as a deadly serious threat..." [page 150]. Interestingly although the Soviet Union was dissolved over 25 years ago, today the Russian Federation Govern…

The following op-ed appeared in The Moscow Times on July 26, 2015 How will Europe's human rights court respond to a government that treats a pacifist religious group as a dangerous extremist cell? The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) will answer that question this summer when it rules on whether Russia's prosecution of Jehovah's Witnesses under its extremism law criminalizes freedom of religion or belief. A ruling against the Kremlin could be a landmark decision for Russia, affecting not only Jehovah's Witnesses. From Muslims to dissenting members of the Moscow Patriarchate Russian Orthodox Church (MPROC), other Russians are also caught in the wide net cast…

If anyone loves God, this one is known by him.—1 Cor. 8:3. http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/dt/r1/lp-e/2017/4/2 Studying the Scriptures does more than reveal areas in which we can improve spiritually. It also deepens our appreciation for Jehovah’s endearing ways, causing us to love him even more. And when our love for God grows, his love for us intensifies, thus strengthening our bond with him. For us to draw close to Jehovah, however, it is essential that we study with the right objective. John 17:3 says: “This means everlasting life, their coming to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.” Thus, our objective should be not merely to take …

A dispute developed in 1917 within the leadership of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society following the death of society president Charles Taze Russell and election of legal counsel Joseph Franklin Rutherford as his successor. An acrimonious battle ensued between Rutherford and four of the society's seven directors, who accused him of autocratic behavior and sought to reduce his powers. Rutherford claimed the dissident directors had formed a conspiracy to seize control of the society and overcame the challenge by gaining a legal opinion that his four opposers had not been legally appointed. He subsequently replaced them with four new sympathetic directors.[1][2] The fo…

"Pages 247 through 254 of this book angered the US Government and several prominent church leaders. These pages basically talked despairingly about the US Government, the military and the churches of christendom. Word eventually got to Judge Rutherford that he was in deep trouble because of this and was even in danger of being arrested for sedition. So in an attempt to avoid jail time, he had these pages removed in the 2nd edition in 1918. But the government was not satisfied with this and threw him in jail anyway... that's the gist of it." Possible two passages: 1917 "And the mountains were not found. Even the republics will disappear in the fall of 1920. And the moun…

Part of a series on In late 1916 Fisher and another prominent Bible Student at the Brooklyn headquarters, Clayton J. Woodworth, sought the Executive Committee's approval to produce a book about the prophecies of the books of Revelation and Ezekiel based primarily on Russell's writings.[56] Work on the book, The Finished Mystery, proceeded without the knowledge of the full Board of Directors and Editorial Committee[57][58] and was released by Rutherford to headquarters staff on July 17, 1917, the day he announced the appointment of the four replacement directors. The book, which was misleadingly labeled as the posthumous seventh volume of Russell's Studies…

(Romans 5:8) "But God recommends his own love to us in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." God’s Love Versus Sin In an act of great love, Jehovah sent his only-begotten Son to help humans. Paul expressed it this way: “God recommends his own love to us in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Rom. 5:8) Think of one fact there mentioned: “We were yet sinners.” Lovingly, Jehovah made a provision for humans to overcome inherited sinfulness. Paul explained that this was possible by means of another man, a later perfect man—in effect, a second Adam. (1 Cor. 15:45) Think what a gift it is for the Almighty to forgive the si…

Remember a few years ago Watchtower literally 'siezed' all individual congregation bank savings around the world above what was needed to cover basic kingdom hall monthly expenses? A new March 30, 2017, BOE letter has just gone out to congregations in Spain, which, more or less, explains that congregations bank account funds no longer entitle congregations to reduced banking fees. (See copy of actual paragraph below.) The letter asks "What is the cause?" Note that the very next sentence does not actually answer the question but rather makes a general comment on what the reader already knows about the world of finance. It says "As you know, sitnific…
