An 89-year-old former maths teacher faces up to ten years in a Russian prison on charges of religious extremism in a crackdown on Jehovah’s Witnesses. Russia outlawed the evangelical Christian group in 2017, categorising it as extremist and on a par with Islamic State and neo-Nazi movements. Nine Jehovah’s Witnesses were jailed last year after being arrested while leading or organising prayer meetings. They were jailed for between two and six years. More than 30 others have spent at least six months in detention. Rimma Vashchenko, born in 1930, is one of eight other residents of Nevinnomyssk, a city in south Russia, who were charged with extremism afte…

Who does adultery effect? First and foremost, it effects God. He sees all that we do. So when a husband or wife cheats on their mate, not only does he see the steps that lead to the adultery, but he sees the act itself. Next, the innocent mate is effected once they are told or find out about the actions of their unfaithful mate. If the couple has children, then they will be effected by this as well. Both the families of the guilty mate and the innocent mate will no doubt be hurt. The congregation may become aware of what happened, and this can be damaging. Especially is this the case if the ones involved were viewed as exemplary in the congregation. Finally, in some…

A citizen of the United States and an Indonesian national have been arrested by the Telanaipura Police in Jambi for allegedly spreading the teachings of Jehovah’s Witnesses in the Simpang Empat Sipin subdistrict of Jambi city. “The arrest was made based on reports from residents who were concerned by the individuals’ activities in the neighborhood,” Telanaipura Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Yumika Putra said on Wednesday. Both the US and the Indonesian citizens, identified only by the initials J and L, respectively, were currently detained and being questioned regarding their religious activities, he said. The Jambi Police had also assisted in making sure whether …

It is true that I no longer go door to door teaching others about God or about His Kingdom. However i do a bit of what might be classes as 'witnessing' on Facebook and at other opportunities. So I found this quote online and I thought, that it is probably better than I could write it myself. Quote : - Anguish of Nations not knowing the way....Out ? Out of What? “Anguish of nations, not knowing the way out . . . Men become faint out of fear and expectation of the things coming upon the inhabited earth.” (Luke 21:25, 26) Crime, violence, drug addiction, family breakups, economic instability, unemployment—the list is long and growing. One prominent s…

I found interesting video, with very important evidences about few subjects. Video took place in Cardiff, Wales 2019. Summer Convention "Love never fails". 1) To what extend JW members are equipped for reasoning and how much they are willing to defend own teachings and beliefs? 2) To what measure JW members who are Convention delegates are under control of people in "orange vests"? And why they allow them to be under their control? 3) Why JW members who wear "orange vests" and are in official capacity are not willing to defend WT published teachings? 4) Does it mean how every JW member who make some sort of sin in his life as JW congregant is "profess…

On the morning of January 19, 2020, in Kazan, law enforcement officers detained about 15 believers, including two children and two women over the age of 80. All of them were interrogated using psychological pressure about who forces them to read the Bible. Some believers have been searched and detained. https://www.jw-russia.org/en/news/2020/01/12.html

Did Jehovah’s Witnesses Lie to the Montana Court About Confidentiality? by Alexandra James As many activists know, the Montana Supreme Court reversed a $35 million judgment against Jehovah's Witnesses recently, in a case involving the religion's failure to report child sex abuse to the authorities. (See this news story.) Confidentiality Trumps Mandatory Reporting Laws The court noted when religious authorities are exempt from the state's mandatory reporting laws; from page 14 of their ruling: In other words, if someone communicates something to their clergy and expects that information to remain confidential, that clergy memb…

One quote I found. " If the meaning of baptism could be boiled down to one word, that word would be identification. Baptism speaks primarily of a personal, public identification with Jesus Christ. " Matthew 28 v 19 NWT "Go, therefore, and make disciples of people of all the nations,o baptizing themp in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, " J W baptism. Baptisms are usually held at assemblies and conventions of Jehovah’s Witnesses. At the conclusion of the baptism talk, the speaker will ask the baptism candidates to stand and answer the following two questions in a loud voice: 1. Have you repented of your sins, dedicated …

FARGO, N.D. (KVLY) A south Fargo man took to the Nextdoor app after he says a woman claiming to be a Jehovah's Witness knocked on his apartment door Sunday night. It all happened in the 2300 block of 30 1/2 Ave. S. The man didn't want to talk with us on camera today, but he tells our reporter the woman claimed her name was Stephanie, and that she wanted to share the word of God. The man says when he looked through his peephole he saw the woman had empty hands. The man says he didn't open the door as he didn't know how she got in his building without buzzing for access, and didn't know if she actually was part of the religion or not. He says after lingering outsi…

Cheryl Pitts was having trouble breathing, could barely walk and her skin was turning gray. She needed heart surgery, but her choice of hospitals was limited. A Jehovah’s Witness, Pitts couldn’t accept a blood transfusions or other treatment with blood products because of her religious beliefs. In need of a bloodless surgery, the 64-year-old Portsmouth woman decided to go to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center — one of seven Ohio hospitals that offer blood alternative solutions to adults. “I just can’t handle the thought of having to take blood,” Pitts said. “Even before I became a Jehovah’s Witness, I would not take blood.” She didn’t trust receiving bloo…

The father of a severely jaundiced 14-day-old premature baby who denied the baby life-saving blood transfusion on medical and religious grounds, on Saturday explained his side of the story. Mr Emmanuel Onokpise claimed he and his wife were never informed their child was in any danger of death to the baby due to the weight. The Lagos State Government evacuated the baby via a court order following information from a concerned member of the public informed its Office of the Public Defender that Mr and Mrs Emmanuel Onokpise had, contrary to medical advice, discharged their severely ill baby from hospital after refusing her blood transfusion on religious and medical …

Thank you, @4Jah2me for bringing up Eccl 12:12! Within the last one hundred plus years, men who profess to represent Christ, have written many works of fiction about a “unique” idea called, “Jehovah’s earthly organization”. (Eccl 12:10-12; Matt 24:24) Before this apparently “thrilling” concept was ever born, the term “organization” was viewed as “wholly un-necessary”, for it would bind another’s conscience. The idea of “organization” was considered “out of harmony with the spirit of the divine plan”. That divine plan, or administration, includes the Holy Ones built on The Body of Christ, and is the dwelling place of God’s Spirit. (Eph 1:4,5,9-14,18-23; 2:20-2…

From John Redwood... A preview of upcoming news: Jehovah's Witnesses are appealing to the Supreme Court of the United States, but this time it has nothing to do with preaching or saluting the flag. It's all about child abuse. Specifically, the protection (or cover-up) of information, documents, and testimony of persons involved in cases of child abuse. I will be covering this story in the coming weeks and months, but I thought I would share some of this news and try to distill it down as simply as I can. I'd like to point out first that Watchtower has appealed to the Supreme Court in connection with their loss of yet another California child …

Faith in Jesus is what Jehovah God wants. God's word contrasts that with putting faith in men. Psalms 146:3 Do not put your trust in princes, nor in a son of man, who cannot bring salvation. John 3:16 For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son,+ so that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life.+ 17 For God did not send his Son into the world for him to judge the world, but for the world to be saved through him.+ 18 Whoever exercises faith in him is not to be judged.+ Whoever does not exercise faith has been judged already, because he has not exercised faith in the name of the only-begotten Son of God……

Some years ago we studied at the meetings the book Jehovah's witnesses - Proclaimers of God's Kingdom and were taught that developing a Christlike character is not so important as preaching. I don't know if you took it that way. But at least I got that impression, and believed it. And thus I continued to focus on preaching and theocratic activities instead of character development. Or in other words to put on the new personality. Here is a quote from that publication, page 292: "The article “Character or Covenant—Which?” in The Watch Tower of May 1, 1926, is a striking example. It frankly considered the harmful effects from what was called character development…

A North Carolina congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses was “still a little traumatized” Thursday after a church member was shot while sitting in her car in the church parking lot Wednesday night, an elder told The Charlotte Observer. Several other members who were outside during the shooting scrambled to safety in the congregation‘s Kingdom Hall, joining other worshippers who “sheltered in place,” Elder John Wray said. The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses is located in Gastonia. Wray, who was among those in the church at the time, said he never heard any of the shots outside. https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/local/article239361273.html

Although this is the only known raid on Protestant Christians in 2019, throughout the year police also raided Jehovah's Witness meetings, interrogated and threatened individuals and brought cases to court. Incidents included police physical violence, intimidation, house searches (often without a warrant) and seizures of personal belongings. "Officers harass, interrogate and pressure Jehovah's Witnesses, even threatening to ‘arrange an accident' if they will not renounce their faith," they told Forum 18 (see below). At least 8 Jehovah's Witnesses are known to have been fined several days' average wages while one of them was also jailed for three days on accusations of h…

Bengaluru: A cancer patient requiring bone marrow transplant can become a complicated case if he or she belongs to Jehovah’s Witnesses denomination as blood transfusion is a taboo for the community even during life-threatening conditions. However, a four-year-old boy from Tanzania, who was suffering from fourth stage abdominal cancer and belonged to Jehovah’s Witnesses, successfully underwent bone marrow transplant (BMT) in Bengluru in what was a bloodlessprocedure. The treatment usually entails five to six blood transfusions, but in this case, doctors at Mazumdar Shah Cancer Centre, Narayana Health City increased his blood levels three weeks prior to the procedure.…

https://gothamist.com/news/inside-the-lost-jehovahs-witnesses-tunnels-under-brooklyn-heights I thought this article was quite interesting and slightly funny too :- "It was a little creepy" in the tunnels, Gregory Hall, "I've heard of some real strange things that happened down there" in the tunnels, Hall said, without going into detail. He did recall seeing "chain-link cages that they had their offices in. It felt weird. It was not real comfortable." Since the tunnels were largely secluded, some elders reportedly saw them as an opportunity to corner members away from the rest of the community. Once, Hall said, an older JW man took him into the tunnels…

The mission statement of Tom Irregardless and Me appears directly on the title page: “For we have become a theatrical spectacle to the world,” Paul writes to the Corinthians. “That being the case, let’s show them some theater!” is my addition. It is the greatest show on earth, with actors playing characters good and bad, strutting their stuff, playing out their roles under the big tent. For the longest time I was frustrated that The Watchtower seldom names names—“one politician said” is the vagueness that they continually served up. Then I realized the underlying truth: it is a play that we are watching. You don’t have to name the actors of the play—it can even be a …

Bonus Point: Some pearls form naturally in clams and oysters. However, cultured pearls are different. They are formed when someone intentionally puts an irritant into an oyster triggering the defense mechanism. Similarly, some of our brothers and sisters may have suffered physical, verbal or sexual abuse. They did nothing wrong, something wrong was done to them. In these instances it can take years for them to learn to cope with the pain. Still, with God’s love and spirit, even such deep scars from the actions of others can create pearls. If this has happened to you, others who have suffered may see your pearl of strength and be encouraged to keep pressing on as well. Mos…

Ten years to the day after Haiti suffered a magnitude 7 earthquake that killed 250,000, CBS News sent Jeff Glor to Port au Prince to report on progress. There wasn’t any—or at least, it didn’t seem that way. “Mass protests, gang violence, rampant political corruption...jobs are scarce,” was his glum assessment. 80 million dollars had immediately after the quake been allocated to rebuild the hospital, and CBS showed the unfinished building standing empty. As to the devastation of the old hospital—the only hospital in town? It “reeks of raw sewage, piles of trash are everywhere.” “Sorry, Buddy, I’m sorry,” a shaken Jeff Glor murmurs, stroking the head of a writhi…
