The dash in the life of Brother Arthur Alfred White

I attended the funeral service of a close family friend, Arthur Alfred White (1936–2017) on Monday, Feb. 27 at the Mililani Assembly Hall, Honolulu. The second of three children, Art had presence from the beginning; he weighed 13 pounds at birth, and stood 6 feet 3 inches tall as a man who wore size 13 shoes. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Marilee Y. White, and sister Geri Munyer. I was deeply affected by this faithful, spiritual man from the time I met him in 1983 until his death, and Steff grew to trust him and have deep respect for him too. Art and Marilee came to Guam in 1981 after he was assigned as branch committee member and district overseer for Guam…

REPENTANCE IS A CHANGE OF MIND, THAT LEADS TO A CHANGE OF HEART, THAT LEADS TO A CHANGE OF ACTIONS. THE CHANGE INVOLVES BOTH A TURNING FROM SIN AND A TURNING TO GOD. 8 "Therefore, produce fruit that befits repentance." (Matthew 3:8) NWT

WHAT DO YOU TEACH YOUR CHILDREN ABOUT MONEY? CREDIT CARDS GOOD AS THEY GET OLDER? EVERYBODY HAS WANTS AND NEEDS, HOW DO YOU TEACH THEM? (Ecclesiastes 7:11, 12) "Wisdom along with an inheritance is good and is advantageous for those seeing the sun. 12 For wisdom is for a protection [the same as] money is for a protection; but the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom itself preserves alive its owners.' TEACH YOUR CHILDREN TO MANAGE MONEY With so many adults in financial trouble today, experts are urging parents to teach their children about money—and to start early. Ask most children where money comes from, and they might say, “Daddy” or “the bank.” If y…

How This World Will Come to an End! “You are not in darkness, so that that day should overtake you as it would thieves.”—1 THESS. 5:4. CAN YOU EXPLAIN? What yet unseen developments are indicated in the following scriptures? 1 Thessalonians 5:3 Revelation 17:16 Daniel 2:44 EARTHSHAKING events will soon occur. The fulfillment of Bible prophecies confirms this fact, so we need to keep on the watch. What will help us to do that? The apostle Paul urges us to “keep our eyes . . . on the things unseen.” Yes, we need to bear in mind our reward of everlasting life, be it in heaven or on earth. As the context shows, Paul wrote these words to encourage fellow bel…

Imitate the One Who Promises Everlasting Life Become imitators of God.—Eph. 5:1. http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/dt/r1/lp-e/2017/3/5 Undoubtedly, we rejoice that God has promised immortality in heaven to faithful anointed ones and everlasting life on earth to Jesus’ loyal “other sheep.” (John 10:16; 17:3; 1 Cor. 15:53) Of course, neither immortal life in heaven nor eternal life on earth will be plagued by the suffering common today. Jehovah is aware of the pain we experience, even as he knew how the Israelites suffered as slaves in Egypt. Indeed, “during all their distress it was distressing to him.” (Isa. 63:9) Centuries later, the Jews were afraid because of ene…

"He reasoned with them from the Scriptures."—Acts 17:2. The account tells us that while in Thessalonica, Paul preached in the synagogue for three Sabbaths. Does this mean that his visit to the city lasted just three weeks? Not necessarily. We do not know how soon after his arrival Paul first went to the synagogue. Further, Paul’s letters disclose that while in Thessalonica, he and his companions worked to support themselves. (1 Thess. 2:9; 2 Thess. 3:7, 8) Also, during his stay, Paul twice received provisions from the brothers in Philippi. (Phil. 4:16) So his stay in Thessalonica was likely somewhat longer than three weeks. Having muste…

Pam Candelario was found dead in her home at 302 West Third Street in Walsenburg. 911 dispatch operators were called by a neighbor who had seen Ralph Candelario run outside of his home, screaming that he’d been attacked and that his wife was inside. When investigators arrived, they found the body of a white female who was later identified as 48-year old Pamela Kay Candelario. An autopsy report for the dead woman indicated that she had died of blunt-force trauma to the head. Her husband, 50-year old, Ralph Candelario, had survived and was taken to the hospital to be treated. When questioned by police, Ralph Candelario stated that they had been attacked by an intruder.…

HE HEALS THE BROKENHEARTED ? The Kingdom message gives strength to the brokenhearted In addition, the good news we preach brings immediate relief and blessings to those who listen to it. How? Some of the blessings were indicated by the prophet Isaiah when he foretold: “The spirit of the Sovereign Lord Jehovah is upon me, for the reason that Jehovah has anointed me to tell good news to the meek ones. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to those taken captive and the wide opening of the eyes even to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of goodwill on the part of Jehovah and the day of vengeance on the part of our God; to comfort all …

The latest move by the Jehovah’s Witnesses will seek to overturn the apex court’s order on November 30, 2016, that all cinema halls in India would play the national anthem before the feature film starts. OVER 30 years ago, a college professor in Kerala, who belonged to the Jehovah’s Witnesses sect, knocked at the doors of the highest court in India on behalf of his children, citing religion as the reason to safeguard their right to not sing the national anthem at school. Next month, when a Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra restarts hearing petitions on its order last year on national anthems in cinema halls, the Jehovah’s Witnesses may again be at the fo…

2 March 2017 MOSCOW (AP) - The leader of the Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia is calling on the head of the Kremlin's human rights council to prevent what the denomination fears is an imminent total ban on the religion. The Jehovah's Witnesses, who claim more than 170,000 faithful in Russia, have come under increasing pressure in recent years, including a ban on distributing literature deemed to violate Russia's anti-extremism laws. In February, investigators conducted an inspection of the religion's headquarters in St. Petersburg, which could be a precursor to a ban. "A ban on its activity in Russia would cause uneasiness throughout the world," the religion's Rus…

In an interview with FrontPage Africa on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, Thomas Nyain, communications officer, of the Jehovah Witnesses Congregation in Liberia said at no time did the organization condemn the exercise since it began. Nothing Can “Separate Us From God’s Love” Keep your "fire burning bright in your heart!" Satan is eager for us to believe that Jehovah God neither loves us nor values us. True, Satan often seduces people by appealing to their vanity and pride. (2 Corinthians 11:3) But he also delights in crushing the self-respect of vulnerable ones. (John 7:47-49; 8:13, 44) This is particularly so in these critical “last days.” Many today grow up in families where there is “no natural affection.” Others are constantly exposed to those who are fierce, selfish, and headstrong. (2 Timothy 3:1-5) Years of being subjected to ill-treatment, racism, or hatred may have convinced …

What is the source of the wars and fights among you?—Jas. 4:1. http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/dt/r1/lp-e/2017/3/4 Pride can disrupt the peace of a congregation. Deep-seated feelings of animosity and superiority can affect our speech and actions, causing untold pain to others. (Prov. 12:18) If we personally have a tendency to feel superior to others, we need to remember that “everyone proud in heart is detestable to Jehovah.” (Prov. 16:5) We would also do well to examine our view of those who belong to another race, nationality, or culture. If we harbor feelings of racial or national pride, we ignore the fact that God “made out of one man every nation of men.” (Acts 17:…
