Monogamy. Is everlasting love possible?
by Guest Kurt- 0 replies

lovelocks: When it comes to relationships, there’s one line of thinking that I believe has done more damage to human emotions than any other: That monogamy is not only unnatural but, for the most part, impossible. You have only to Google the word to find a long list of quotes by illustrious men such as Leo Tolstoy: “To say that you can love one person all your life is just like saying that one candle will continue to burn as long as you live.” Or what about this little gem from 19th century Irish poet, Thomas Moore: "Romantic love is an illusion. Most of us discover this truth at the end of a love affair or else when the sweet emotions of …

A Widespread Belief - THINK!! - WOULD A GOD OF LOVE TORTURE PEOPLE? - Learn from your own Bible the answer! “I had nightmares of burning in hell! I dreamed of being thrown into a fiery place and would wake up screaming. Needless to say, I tried very hard not to sin.”—Arline. DO YOU believe that hell is a place of torment reserved for sinners? Many people do. For example, in 2005 a scholar at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland found that a third of the Scottish clergy believed that those separated from God would suffer “eternal mental anguish in hell.” A fifth believed that those in hell would suffer physical torment. In many countries, belief in …

What Is Materialism? - Can I have Riches Too? ~ (Luke 12:21) "So it goes with the man that lays up treasure for himself but is not rich toward God.” HUMANS are born with the capacity to be spiritually inclined and with a need to worship God. Still, man was created from material elements and has material needs and the capacity to enjoy material things. Some Christians have an abundance of material riches. Is this in itself evidence of materialism and a lack of spirituality? By contrast, are those who are poor less likely to be materialistic and more likely to be spiritually inclined? Surely you would agree that materialism involves much more than simply …

Do You Listen to Strangers for Direction in Life? - You Must Beware of “the Voice of Strangers” - It Will Harm You! ~ (Isaiah 30:21) And your own ears will hear a word behind you saying: “This is the way. LET JEHOVAH LEAD YOU TO TRUE FREEDOM "[Peer] into the perfect law that belongs to freedom."—Jas. 1:25 To prepare his servants for that future freedom, Jehovah gave us what James called “the perfect law that belongs to freedom.” (Read James 1:25.) Other Bibles call it “the law that makes us free” (The New English Bible) and “the perfect law of freedom” (The New American Bible). When people think of law, they usually think of being controlled, not of having freedom. Then, what is “the perfect law that belongs to freedom”? And how does that law make us free? “The perfect law” is different from the laws of many countries. It is made up of…

"I do not understand what I am doing. For I do not practice what I wish, but I do what I hate."—Rom. 7:15. NWT jw.org In his letter to the Romans, Paul wrote about a struggle he himself experienced—a conflict between his flesh and his mind. (Read Romans 7:21-23.) Paul was not indulging in self-justification or self-pity, as though he were so heavily laden with sin that he could not help himself. After all, he was a mature, spirit-anointed Christian, chosen to be “an apostle to the nations.” (Rom. 1:1;11:13) Why, then, did Paul write about his personal struggle? Paul was honestly acknowledging that on his own, he was incapable of doing God’s will to the ext…

I like the song video; ‘Why We Went to Bethel.” I like that it is all children. Adults are in the background for support. They clap, sway, play instruments. But the centerpiece is the kids. If you weren’t paying attention, you might miss that it is shot in different countries, with different choirs of kids. That’s how seamless it has been produced by really capable people. I like the child that pops up at the end, “Thank you, Jehovah.” The brother who I think I would like in person will not join in the singing. He just won’t do it. But he will watch the Sergei vignettes just before, which are just as good. In fact, they are better.

Throw All Your Anxiety on Jehovah What can we do when we are overwhelmed with feelings of anxiety? Our loving Heavenly Father came to the aid of his servants of the past, & today he makes it possible for us to gain considerable relief from distress or anxiety. The Bible urges us: 6 "Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you in due time," 7 "while you throw all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you." (1 Peter 5:6,7) NWT Consider ways that you can do-so by means of heart felt prayer, by reading God's Word and mediating on it, by tapping into Jehovah's Holy Spirit & by sharing your fe…

LUKE A physician and faithful companion of the apostle Paul. He was the writer of the Gospel of Luke and of the Acts of Apostles. That Luke was well educated is apparent from his writings. Also, his background as a doctor is noticeable in his use of medical terms.—Lu 4:38; Ac 28:8. Luke did not speak of himself as an eyewitness of the events in the life of Christ that are recorded in his Gospel account. (Lu 1:2) So, he apparently became a believer sometime after Pentecost of 33 C.E. In the book of Acts, Luke is referred to in an indirect way by the use of the pronouns “we” and “us.” (Ac 16:10-17;20:5–21:18; 27:1–28:16) He was with Paul at Troas on the apostle’…

By Trey Bundy / February 17, 2017 The Jehovah’s Witnesses settled a lawsuit this week brought by a Pennsylvania woman who says the religion’s leaders covered up sexual abuse she suffered as a teenager. The settlement came five days into a trial in which Stephanie Fessler, a former Jehovah’s Witness, claimed the religion’s parent corporation violated Pennsylvania’s child abuse reporting laws by instructing local leaders – known as elders – not to report her allegations to police. According to Fessler, a middle-aged Jehovah’s Witness woman, Terry Monheim, began sexually abusing her when she was 14. At 15, Fessler disclosed the abuse to her parents. Her fathe…

Paul Shields said he had not spoken to his 80-year-old mother for two years after being accused of abusing young girls :: He denies the allegations A Jehovah’s Witness accused of sexually abusing three young girls told a court he had been ostracised by the church ever since the allegations arose. Paul Shields, 57, who was living in Guisborough at the time of the alleged abuse, said that no-one within the organisation would talk to him because of the accusations which he insists were untrue. York Crown Court heard that it was Jehovah’s Witness policy for church members to shun those who have wronged in such a way. Even family members who are Jehova…

Imitate Jehovah’s Close Friends... [Ahaz] burned up his sons in the fire.—2 Chron. 28:3. http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/dt/r1/lp-e/2017/2/25 Ahaz’s son Hezekiah might easily have grown up to be a bitter, angry man who turned against God. Others who have endured far less have become “enraged against Jehovah” or embittered toward his organization. (Prov. 19:3) And some people are convinced that their unwholesome family background dooms them to lead a bad life, perhaps to repeat their parents’ mistakes. (Ezek. 18:2, 3) Are such notions correct? Hezekiah’s life record gives us a resounding answer: Absolutely not! There is never a valid reason to become embittered ag…

Jehovah is with you wherever you go 9 "Have I not commanded you? Be courageous and strong. Do not be struck with terror or fear, for Jehovah your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9) JEHOVAH’S service brings us joy. Yet, we do face hardships common to mankind, and we may “suffer for the sake of righteousness.” (1 Pet. 3:14;5:8, 9; 1 Cor. 10:13) To cope with such trials successfully, we need faith and courage. Courage has been defined as “spiritual, emotional, and moral fortitude to speak and act without fear in the face of obstacles and dangers." To have the courage needed to do God’s will, we must study and apply his Word. Jesus, earl…

DISFELLOWSHIPPING OF RELATIVES AND SPACE TRAVELS Grant me some moments with this regression: our former point of view about visiting, traveling or living in another planet. To show that the Bible disapproves this idea, we found good few of declarations quoting Ps. 115 in this way: CHARGING Ps 115 · *** g73 5/22 p. 13 Is There Life Beyond the Earth? *** Of our planet alone the Holy Bible declares that God “formed it even to be inhabited.” (Isa. 45:18) And long ago God’s Word declared that the heavens belong to the Creator, “but the earth he has given to the sons of men.” (Ps. 115:15, 16) So the Bible shows that the earth is unique among planets. …

Artist John Feodorov in his West Seattle home John Feodorov is Native American. And he’s an artist. But don’t call his work “Native American art.” “Not everything I want to say needs to be adorned with beads and feathers,” he says. But Feodorov is always conscious of his Navajo heritage. “That’s the lens I see the world through,” he says. “I think it would be not only disingenuous but also absurd to not acknowledge that.” Feodorov was born in suburban Los Angeles, the son of a Caucasian father and a Navajo mother. After his parents split up when he was 10, Feodorov lived with his mom in Whittier, California. “When I was a little kid,” he…

(Feb. 24, 2017) On February 20, 2017, the Swedish Supreme Administrative Court decided that Jehovah’s Witnesses have the right to state funding and that not providing such support would violate articles 14 and 19 of the European Convention on Human Rights. (Case No. 2310-16, Högsta förvaltningsdomstolen [Swedish Supreme Administrative Court], Feb. 20, 2017, HÖGSTA FÖRVALTNINGSDOMSTOLEN [SUPREME COURT REPORTER) (HFD).) Background Under Swedish law, the government provides state funding to faith-based organizations (trossamfund), provided that they contribute to “upholding and strengthening the fundamental values upon which the [Swedish] society rests.” (3 § 1 Lag…

When Syrian Refugees Open the Door to Jehovah's Witnesses

How do you explain proselytizers to a friendly newcomer? Our hands were covered in cookie dough and crushed dates when the knock on the door startled us. Safa was not expecting anyone but she seemed happy to see two women in the doorway. The pretty blonde extended a hand and told Safa how happy she was to meet face-to-face after their phone conversation. The perky brunette behind her nodded enthusiastically. I assumed they were parents from the nearby school, dropping in to say hello. It was smiles all around as I introduced myself, but there was no context given as the blonde handed Safa an iPad and pressed play. And that is when it hit me: these nice wom…
