I discovered something today that surprised me greatly, even though it should not have surprised me at all. This post could have gone in the Jewish section or a Controversial Post section, but I chose to put it here because, for me, it concerns my beliefs as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, and our recent reading of Isaiah. I base this discussion on a principle found in Paul's letter to the Thessalonians, although Paul at the time was specifically concerned with a different subject: (2 Thessalonians 2:1, 2) . . .we ask you not to be quickly shaken from your reason nor to be alarmed either by an inspired statement or by a spoken message or by a letter appearing to be …

* Valentine’s Day. “St. Valentine’s Day has nothing very saintly to commend it as to its origin.”—The Golden Age, December 25, 1929, page 208. "The romantic nature of Valentine's Day may have derived during the Middle Ages, when it was believed that birds paired couples in mid-February. According to English 18th-century antiquarians Alban Butler and Francis Douce, Valentine's Day was most likely created to overpower the pagan holiday, Lupercalia. (Note the picture, another name to the worship of Nimrod) (Both Lupercus, and St Valentine) The first representation of Saint Valentine appeared in a The Nuremberg Chronicle, a great illustrated book printed in 1…

Preserve the Positive Spirit of the Congregation 10 "Now I urge you, brothers, through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you should all speak in agreement and that there should be no divisions among you, but that you may be completely united in the same mind and in the same line of thought." Each congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses today shows a certain spirit, or general attitude. Some congregations are known for being kind and loving. Others show great zeal in supporting the preaching work and the full-time ministry. When all of us work hard to have a good attitude, we help the congregation to remain united and to keep its good spirit. But when in…

Dr. William Woo, Professor Exaltus at Bulldog U, recently wowed the academic world with an astounding breakthrough in the highly specialized field of linguistical translagistics. His findings are to be published in the April issue of Wonderful Scientist Magazine and he is very excited, for he will get to rub shoulders with persons almost as brilliant as he. For years experts have scratched their collective heads at reports that, in a bi-lingual household, children become expert in both languages and in a tri-lingual household, all three. This clearly makes no sense. Lingual inter-fluency is an extraordinary complex skill. Good tools are critically important ... but …

I was reading this week's study article on remaining loyal to Jah. Found an interesting contradiction on shunning. They cite two experiences. In one a JW shuns her mom and her example is posted as a positive one of someone doing the right thing. The second example however of a JW being shunned by his non-JW family is labeled as an injustice. Here's first one: So, the example above demonstrates the supposed loyal faith of a daughter that refused to talk to the woman that gave birth to her, raised her and surely sacrificed so much for her. This, the Watchtower claims, is an example of love and loyalty. Now let's see the second example cited in the same article in…

In accord with her expressed wish, there will be no services for Mildred "Mickey" Irene Medicraft, who passed away on Feb. 9, 2017. Mildred was born Dec. 17, 1933, in Holtville, Calif. to Earl and Keva Goree, both of whom preceded her in death. Mickey spent her formative years with her parents and five siblings in Grants Pass, Ore. She had many fond memories of her youth. One memory she liked to reminisce about was hosting dances in her family home. They would push back the living room furniture, her father would play the accordion, and the young folks of her congregation would dance. Mickey was married on Feb. 2, 1957, to Rodney Medicraft. They had two children…

Where do babies come from? The Aztec answer: the 13th heaven, the highest heaven of all. It was called Omeyocan which in Nahuatl means “the place of duality.” In Omeyocan a female god and a male god – or perhaps one god with dual forms – shaped and made each baby’s soul. Via
