For the longest time I confused him with a David (I think) Slutz, with whom I was assigned blueberry picking detail out of Wallkill in perhaps 1976. Someone donated blueberries- pick all you can, and Bethel quickly assembled a crew of 6. I and one other because we were visiting and had nothing else to do; David and 3 others because they had just graduated from Gilead and had nothing else to do. Even now I sometimes think it was Splane, not Slutz, but I'm probably mistaken. We spent several delicious days trading stories, experiences and plenty of riddles. The one that sticks is when he told of his volatile student offering his first comment. He braced himself but it was n…

WILL RUSSIA RESPECT THE BIBLE? VYBORG COURT DECIDES NOT TO EXAMINE NEW TESTAMENT FOR EXTREMISM by Roman Lunkin Religiia i pravo, 9 January 2017 In Russia there is underway a rather complex process of adjustment to vigorous religious activity in conditions of harsh legislation, which assigns believers to the category of potentially dangerous citizens. However, practice shows that excessive suspicions contradict common sense. On 21 December 2016, the Vyborg district court issued one of the rare decisions in favor of a religious organization, the Gideons Association of Evangelical Christians. Back in June 2016, personnel of the Brusnichnoe customs post seized a…

The fruitage of the spirit is love.—Gal. 5:22. http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/dt/r1/lp-e/2017/1/14 Other aspects of the fruitage of the spirit—such as mildness, self-control, and patience—are important too. (Gal. 5:23) They can help a mature Christian to handle difficult situations without becoming irritated and to endure heartbreaking disappointments without losing hope. In his program of personal study, he continually searches for Scriptural principles that can help him to distinguish right from wrong. Thereafter, when he makes decisions, he gives evidence of spiritual maturity. For instance, he listens to his Bible-trained conscience. The mature Christian shows hum…

Holding on to resentment is like...
by Guest Nicole- 0 replies

By: @bow_tie_bros_comics Based on a talk I heard when I was young. Lu 17:4 Even if he sins seven times a day against you and he comes back to you seven times, saying, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.” Eph 4:26 Be wrathful, but do not sin; do not let the sun set while you are still angry. Holding on to anger or resentment that we may have built up toward another can be dangerous for our health, both mentally and physically. While those toxic emotions spread throughout our heart and mind, the person we are secretly upset with may be completely unaware that they have even offended us. So we suffer while they continue to live out their life. It's like drinking poison…

Find exquisite delight in Jehovah.—Ps. 37:4. http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/dt/r1/lp-e/2017/1/13 In the new world, we will derive the greatest pleasure from having our spiritual need filled. (Matt. 5:3) Spiritual activities will be our highest priority, and we will demonstrate that we are finding exquisite delight in Jehovah. By giving spiritual things priority now, we are preparing for the real life in the future. (Matt. 6:19-21) How can we increase our joy in theocratic activities? One way is by setting spiritual goals. If you are young and are giving serious consideration to a career in Jehovah’s service, why not review some of the material that has been published …

Forest and Helen were born the same day, were 75 years married and died one day after they were at the age of 94 years. "She did not want to see him dead, and he did not want to live without her." Their friends and family agree: if two people were getting "one for the other", that were Helen and Forest Both date from the same day, December 31, 1918. Helen and Forest were in love with each other for years, schools and this year marks the 75th anniversary of their wedding. Unfortunately was the last one. Helen died on July 16, and Forest died the next day, July 17, 2013. They were both 94 years old. "It was true love," says her eldest son, - "They were together every da…

This is my question: what photo bellow best represents the meaning of Pro 4:18, "A" or "B"? A) Oh, no, this picture doesn't represent our normal use of Pro. 4:18. This, apparently, better fits with Eph. 4:24 and the new personality transformation. B) This is, with total security, our quickest choice! The photo represents the gradual increase in knowledge about the God's purposes and his word. But, this is my question. What is in first and foremost place the real meaning of this Proverb? The background in our literature. There is a lot of "back" in the timeline. This is the first reference I've found in our publications in the use of Pro.4…

“I will put peace in the land, and you will indeed lie down, with no one making you tremble; and I will make the injurious wild beast cease out of the land.” (Le 26:6) This meant that the wild animals would stay within the confines of their habitat and not bring harm to the Israelites and their domestic animals. On the other hand, if the Israelites proved to be disobedient, Jehovah would allow their land to be invaded and devastated by foreign armies. As this would result in reducing the population, wild animals would multiply, penetrate formerly inhabited areas, and do injury to the survivors and their domestic animals. http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/li/r1/lp…

‘Strengthen Yourself by Jehovah’ David’s fear of Jehovah did more than just restrain him from doing wrong. It strengthened him to act decisively and wisely under difficult circumstances. For a year and four months, David and his men took refuge from Saul at Ziklag in the Philistine countryside. (1 Samuel 27:5-7) Once while the men were away, marauding Amalekites burned the city and carried off all the men’s wives, children, and flocks. Upon returning and seeing what had happened, David and his men wept. Grief quickly turned tobitterness, and David’s men spoke of stoning him. Though distressed, David did not despair. (Proverbs 24:10) His fear of God …

“Keep on the watch. . . because you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.”—MATTHEW 24:42. Jesus gave this warning: “Keep on the watch, therefore, because you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know one thing, that if the householder had known in what watch thethief was coming, he would have kept awake and not allowed his house to be broken into.” (Matthew 24:42, 43) So Jesus likened his coming to the arrival of a thief—unexpected. Because we truly love Jehovah, we find the greatest delight in doing his will. (Psalm 40:8;Matthew 26:39) And we want to serve Jehovah forever. That prospect is not less precious just because we must wa…

European Court Wants Everyone Into the Pool
by Guest Kurt- 0 replies

JAN 13, 2017 Muslim girls can be required to participate in swimming classes alongside boys despite their parents’ religious objections, according to the European Court of Human Rights. The outcome would have been the opposite in most U.S. jurisdictions, which have emphasized students’ rights ever since Jehovah’s Witnesses were exempted from the Pledge of Allegiance during World War II. The decision made this week marks the very different situation in contemporary Europe, where children’s interests are contrasted with their parents’ rights, and the schools’ goal of “integration” is getting special weight amid a wave of Muslim immigration. The case, Osmanoǧlu and…
