Do Jehovah Witnesses Attend Funerals & Weddings?
by Guest Kurt- 2 replies
- 12.2k views
Witnesses embrace both weddings and funerals. Jehovah's Witnesses attend weddings and funerals except under certain circumstances. The Witnesses have nothing against weddings or funerals, but they do have strict religious beliefs that impel them to avoid certain activities and celebrations which, they believe, violate moral principles found in the Bible. Jehovah's Witnesses don't celebrate some events, including birthdays and Christmas, that they say resemble paganism more than Christian belief. So some may conclude that the Witnesses are against weddings and funerals. But actually, the Witnesses attend weddings and funerals for essentially the same reasons tha…

Always Trust in Jehovah ! I will give you insight and instruct you in the way you should go. I will give you advice with my eye upon you.—Ps. 32:8. http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/dt/r1/lp-e/2017/1/3 When under severe hardship, you may feel as did Paul—that you are in or at least very near “the lion’s mouth.” (2 Tim. 4:17) These are times when trust in Jehovah is most challenging—and most essential. For example, suppose you are nursing a dear family member through a chronic illness. Perhaps you have prayed for wisdom and strength. Having done all you can in this regard, do you not find a measure of peace in knowing that Jehovah has his eye upon you and will provid…

Timothy . . . is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord. He will remind you of my methods.—1 Cor. 4:17. http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/dt/r1/lp-e/2017/1/2 A newly appointed brother should not feel that as soon as he receives some responsibility in the congregation, he needs to use it to change course—to do things in a way that is completely different from the way they were done before. The need for change is determined, not by one’s desire for change, but by the needs of the congregation and the direction we receive from Jehovah’s organization. So if you are appointed, reassure your fellow believers and show respect for experienced elders by continuing to use their…

I will certainly . . . make myself known before the eyes of many nations; and they will have to know that I am Jehovah.—Ezek. 38:23. http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/dtsync/r1/lp-e/r4/lp-s/2016/12/31 When Gog begins the assault on God’s people, Jehovah will tell his servants: “Go, my people, enter your inner rooms, and shut your doors behind you. Hide yourself for a brief moment until the wrath has passed by.” (Isa. 26:20; Ezek. 38:10-12, 18-22) At that crucial time, Jehovah will give us lifesaving instructions, and the “inner rooms” might well be connected with our local congregations. If, therefore, we wish to benefit from Jehovah’s protection during the great tribula…

LETTER FROM RUSSIA MARCH 27TH 2016 PAGE 1095 FOUR NEW, TRIED AND TESTED, SERVANTS OF JEHOVAH In the run up to the circuit assembly we had to organise the question and answer sessions for five people as well as one for publishing. In the end it was decided that one girl would wait until the summer for baptism and so we had the prospect of four new brothers making their stand. In a country where literally 85% or so of the publishers are female it was quite an unusual event. But it has not been easy. Firstly, Andrei, who has an opposed wife and two smart little girls, has been through the mill recently and had to move house three times. He was able to g…

According to Romans Chapter 4, a person is declared righteous by God through their faith in Christ. The society makes a distinction between the righteousness that was reckoned or credited to Abraham and the righteousness that is counted to the annointed. According to the publications Abraham's righteousness made him a friend of God whereas the annointed are declared righteous for life as God's children and heirs of Christ. However as I read Romans Ch 4 I came across these verses regarding Abraham, especially verses 23 and 24 20 But because of the promise of God, he did not waver in a lack of faith; but he became powerful by his faith, giving God glory 21 and bei…

Elders, How Do You Feel About Training Others? The things you heard from me . . . entrust to faithful men, who, in turn, will be adequately qualified to teach others.—2 Tim. 2:2. http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/dt/r1/lp-e/2017/1/1 Circuit overseers around the world have noted that in many congregations, more needs to be done to train brothers—younger and older—to help care for the flock. This presents a challenge. Why is that the case? If you are a Christian elder, you no doubt realize that personal training is important. You know that more brothers are needed to keep existing congregations spiritually strong and to allow new congregations to be formed. (Isa…
