Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you.—Jas. 4:8. http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/dt/r1/lp-e/2016/7/18 Without the Bible, how would we have known that we can draw close to our Creator? Without it, how could we have learned about the ransom and about our being drawn to Jehovah through Jesus? By means of his spirit, Jehovah inspired the writing of the Bible, which reveals to us his appealing personality as well as his grand purposes. For example, at Exodus 34:6, 7, Jehovah described himself to Moses as “a God merciful and compassionate, slow to anger and abundant in loyal love and truth, showing loyal love to thousands, pardoning error and transgression and sin…

The following film are screening as part of the Fantasia Film Festival, which runs through Aug. 3. A Conspiracy of Faith While films dealing with religion and the abuse/murder of children constitute a somewhat tired subgenre in parts of Europe, A Conspiracy of Faith, the third film in the Department Q series based on the best-selling novels by Jussi Adler-Olsen, is anything but exhausted. It’s a riveting Danish crime drama that touches on the cyclical nature of intergenerational abuse and the complex relationship between faith, the lack thereof, and religion. It excels in weaving a fragmented narrative, while commenting on the roots of violence and faith, a…

Quichua People

I was wondering why most of the Quichua People on the photos of a married couple who serve in Ecuador appear with red cheek, so I decided to ask them, I thought it was some kind of makeup, and they told me this: "Wind and cold chaps and learhers their tender skin and UV rays from sun very intense on the equator so they are frequently sun burned. So cracked and dry that sometimes fine lines of dried blood rolling down the cheeks. Cute for fotos but not good for their young tender skin. We try gifting them suscreen and creams but getting them to us it regularly is a frustratingly slow process."- @ecua_gringo This is sad, however this couple is doing a gr…

ABAKAN PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE CLOSES LOCAL JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES FOR 80 DAYS KhakaziaInform, 14 July 2016 Yesterday an Abakan city court issued a decision on the basis of an order of the prosecutor's office of the capital of Khakassia, which harshly but legally responded to failure to comply with requirements of this oversight agency on the part of the local religious organization of Jehovah's Witnesses with the title "Southern, Abakan." The issue was that the ministers of the religion, to whom violations in the use of their building on Beloyarskaia Street, 64, in Abakan had been pointed out, did not correct the requirements of the prosecutor and persons sent from the pr…

For your sakes I will send to Babylon and bring down all the bars of the gates.—Isa. 43:14. http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/dt/r1/lp-e/2016/7/17 In line with that prophecy, a world-shaking event happened one night early in October 539 B.C.E. While Babylon’s king and his nobles were drinking wine from holy vessels captured from Jerusalem’s temple and were praising their man-made gods, the armies of Media and Persia conquered Babylon. In 538 or 537 B.C.E., Babylon’s conqueror, Cyrus, commanded the Jews to return and rebuild God’s temple in Jerusalem. All of this was foretold by Isaiah, including Jehovah’s promise that he would provide for and protect his repentant people…

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The protests and national attention have not kept tourists away from the Capital City. A regional convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses is in Baton Rouge for the first time since the early 80s. “Everybody's very hospitable. We've been enjoying the nice restaurants and the nice people here, so it's been real nice,” pastor Timothy Bealer said. Bealer is in town from Mississippi to help preach the convention’s theme of loyalty. He said organizers never considered moving the gathering because of recent events. “We do have good Bible-based messages that come across our platform here as well as in our congregation meetings, so in situati…
