‘Beautiful girl’ leaves legacy full of love

Joyce Pearman, who with her husband Edric formed the island’s longest-married couple, has been lovingly recalled by her family after her death at the age of 95. “She was a beautiful girl — I don’t know how she put up with me for all those years,” her husband told The Royal Gazette. “We have eight children and 37 grandchildren, and to me they are the best family in the world. I am going to miss her.” Mrs Pearman, who died on May 22, was interred on Saturday by the Jehovah’s Witnesses, with whom she served for more than 35 years, affectionately known as “Sister Pearman”. A lifelong resident of St George’s, Mrs Pearman was born in 1920 to Oscar and Gwendo…

Judge sets trial in discrimination lawsuit against Key West

A federal judge has set a January trial date for a fired Key West bus driver suing the city for what he calls religious discrimination. Bobby Walker Jr. says the city fired him over a scheduling dispute that arose when he refused to work during the 2014 Fantasy Fest, citing his Jehovah's Witness beliefs against openly sexual displays that are routine at the annual 10-day October festival. Walker later asked for Dec. 31 off but was refused. After he failed to show up for work, the city fired him. The case is due for trial Jan. 23 in Key West before U.S. District Judge Jose Martinez. A mediation deadline is set for Dec. 14. The city's attorney, Michael B…

Serena Williams may know Donald Trump, but that doesn’t mean she’ll be voting for him. In fact, she doesn’t intend to vote at all in the November presidential election. “I don’t vote,” Williams told reporters who inquired about the presumptive Republican nominee after she advanced to the French Open quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Elina Svitolina at the French Open. “It goes back to my religion.” Williams, who is a Jehovah’s Witness, said she is “not involved at all” in politics. It may come as little surprise that she chooses to sit out this election, but she and Trump do have places in the same community, Palm Beach, Fla. “Everyone in Palm…

Ackee fruit, in Latin “Blighia sapida”, is a fruit which originated in the tropical areas of West Africa. Once imported in Jamaica, it became one of the main ingredients in Caribbean specialties, and it is also cultivated in tropical and subtropical areas in several parts of the world. This would be Jehovahs surprise fruit? I can’t wait for the new world where we will have an abundance of new foods to try. View the full article

Arp 194 is a peculiar group of interacting galaxies located about 600 million light-years away from the Earth in the direction of the Cepheus constellation. In the top portion of the above picture, two colliding galaxies are in the process of merging together. It looks like one of the galaxies has sprung a leak – a spiral arm full of newborn stars is extending downward. The bluish arm looks like a cosmic fountain of stars, gas and dust. It looks like it is connected to the galaxy at the bottom, but it isn’t; the galaxy visible at the bottom of the picture is a background galaxy located very far away from the interacting galaxies. I am EAGER for the day when we will be abl…

Community rallies around house fire family THE BILOELA community has rallied around the young family who lost their house and family pets in a house fire at the weekend. Family friend Kirrilly McCabe set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the family just hours after the home was destroyed. "I just thought about how we would cope in that situation - they literally were in the car and just had the clothes on their back," she said. "They're also both not the type to ask for help. I wasn't sure how (they) would react, but I've spoken to the mother since and she's just extremely grateful that someone has sort of taken the reins." Mrs McCabe said…

Parents also provide for their children’s spiritual needs when praying. Jesus taught his disciples how to pray, and he prayed with them on many occasions. (Luke 11:1-13) Your children can learn a lot from your prayers. They may learn, for example, that Jehovah wants us to speak to him freely from the heart, approaching him with any concern that we might have. Yes, your prayers can help your children to learn a vital spiritual truth: They can have a relationship with their heavenly Father.—1 Peter 5:7. ❤ ♫ ❤ ♫ ❤ ♫ •*¨`*•..¸♥☼♥¸.•*¨`*•.♫ ❤ ♫ ❤ ♫ ❤
