“Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see if they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” 1 John 4:1 Jesus gave us complete directions on how to do “test the spirits”. Notice what Jesus said: “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. Every branch in me that does not produce fruit he removes, and he prunes every branch that produces fruit so that it will produce more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, and I in you. Just as a branch is unable to produce fruit by itself unless it remains on the vine, neither can you unless you remain in …

“Same vs. different” is a typical worksheet handed out to preschool and kindergarten children. In the pictures below, would you consider them the “same”, or “different”? Watchtower 11/1/1990 p. 26 LOOKING TO AN ORGANIZATION FOR SALVATION IS... Idolatry Our Relative Subjection to the Superior Authorities As Christians, we face up to similar challenges today. We cannot take part in any modern version of idolatry—be it worshipful gestures toward an image or symbol or the imputing of salvation to a person or an organization. Kingdom Ministry 11/1990 p. 1 ONE MUST COME TO THE WATCHTOWER ORGANIZATION FOR SALVATION Directing Bible Students to Jehovah’s Orga…

[Dennis Christensen’s closing statement] First, I want to thank my wife Irina, who from the very beginning did everything in her power to help and support me. She took care of me, passed me clothes, groceries, medicines and other things that I needed in the SIZO (Pre-Trial Detention Centre). She has supported me emotionally and spiritually with her visits and letters that I have received from her every day. My dear wife, your strong faith, your great patience, your peace of mind and love for me and for the truth, including your optimism, have all been a great example to me. You should know that I love you very much and that I am very proud of you! I also wa…

The FSB has detained representatives of 15 communities of the Jehovah’s Witnesses in Dagestan. They are accused of extremist activity (Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), riadagestan.ru reports. A large number of “propaganda items” have been seized from community members, law enforcement officials say. According to the FSB, “for several years, members of the community carried out secret meetings to study extremist literature and coordinate activities to disseminate the ideology of the organization.” The exact number of people the special services detained on this case is not reported. Jehovah’s Witnesses is an international religi…

Jehovah's Witnesses may appeal a judgment that gave the green light to a class-action lawsuit against them for alleged sexual assault on minors. Jehovah’s Witnesses in Quebec may appeal a judgment that gave the green light to a class-action lawsuit against them for alleged sexual assault on minors. The Quebec Court of Appeal on Monday granted them the right to appeal a judgment authorizing the class action, handed down in February by Justice Chantal Corriveau of the Superior Court. At the heart of the class action is whether the church failed to protect its members when they tried to denounce sexual abuse. The class action argues the church’s internal …

The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has categorically condemned the arrests of Jehovah’s Witnesses and demanded that Russia immediately free the worshippers. On May 29, 2019, the opinion of the special UN investigative body was rendered in the case of Dmitriy Mikhaylov v. Russia. The arrest of Dmitriy Mikhaylov, from Shuya (Ivanovo Region), was found to be religious discrimination. The document stresses that the “findings in this opinion apply to all others in the situations similar to that of Mr. Mikhaylov.” We publish the whole document in Russian. https://jw-russia.org/en/news/19060517-905.html

The law enforcers, who conducted a search of the apartment of Arsen Abdullaev, a Jehovah's Witness (the organization, recognized as extremist and banned in Russia by the court), who was arrested in Dagestan, used threats and intimidation, Suat, Arsen's wife, has stated. The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 1, searches were conducted in Makhachkala, Kaspiysk, Kizlyar and Derbent, after which Jehovah's Witnesses, Arsen Abdullaev, Maria Karpova, Anton Dergalyov and Marat Abdugalimov were detained. How many times have some of us cut off a bruised section of, let’s say an apple, and still enjoyed eating the rest? We know that normally a small bruise doesn’t affect the taste of the apple. The other day, I had one apple left of any fruit available; one which was clean of bruises, but was just beginning to rot. I knew this, but felt I could cut off the soft brown blemish and eat the rest, just as I had done with a bruise. Upon cutting, I could see the rot had traveled into the core, but I diligently scored out the discolored tissue with the hope of enjoying what remained. The first bite told the story of bitter rottenness. The unpleasant taste had traveled well t…

Excerpt: In fact, certain persons cannot go ‘beyond the law’ with impunity. A doctor in the U.S. absolutely dare not go beyond the HIPPA law ensuring confidentiality; it is a meticulously enforced law, leading some to wish that more major crimes were so quickly avenged. Three confidential relationships are bedrock to Western law: confidentiality of doctor-patient, lawyer-client and clergy-penitent,36 for none of these relationships can work without the expectation of confidentiality. If law is not written otherwise, it is illegal to go beyond the law in such cases. Without a clear legal mandate, a Witness elder cannot go ‘beyond the law’ because the default law says …

I don’t think I have ever been distracted in a prayer by rounds of ‘Poor Jud is dead.’ And folks are feelin' sad Cause they useter treat him bad But now they know their friend is gone for good Curly: Good. How can a guy seriously pray, as one ought to do at a memorial, with that playing over the sound system? It wasn’t good at all that my friend was dead. Still, I should have expected it, attending the memorial of 92-year-old Barbara, who had once played in the musical Oklahoma. She had been in Lil Abner, too, as the back-up Daisy Mai, and also a few other venues. After show business, she served as an administrator at NYU. After retir…

There it is again. An experience of writing letters containing “some comfort from the Scriptures.” Here is from the recent Watchtower article on ‘Show Fellow Feeling in Your Ministry.’ A letter was well-received in this instance of a family whose child had died. “‘I was having a horrible day yesterday,’ wrote the bereaved mother. ‘I don’t think you have any idea what impact your letter had on us. I can’t thank you enough or even begin to describe how much it meant to us. I must have read your letter at least 20 times yesterday. I just could not believe how kind, caring, and uplifting it was. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.’” And to think that ther…

I didn't want to hijack another thread so I'm starting a new one. I haven't seen this topic covered before so I'm presenting it for discussion. Can any war be justified? For example genocidal tyrants started wars for land, which is dumb. The united states started a war with native americans and Mexicans for land. However Hitler started a war and needed to be stopped, so war was used to stop him. Now we have muslim extremist who want to kill everyone who won't bow down to their allah. We got a smart bunch here so I am interested in your thoughts.

I've often thought of this point of reproof from the platform. It does nothing positive at all, it just leaves people wondering why the person was reproved. And it certainly does not protect the congregation. 2019 “Shepherd the Flock of God”: The Problem With Public Reproofs for Child Sex Abuse by Alexandra James In January of 2019, elders in the congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses were issued a new version of their confidential handbook, "Shepherd the Flock of God." This handbook covers, among other topics, when a person should be "reproved." For those unfamiliar with the their practices, Jehovah's Witness elders might de…

RUSSIA: Jehovah's Witness criminal cases - list

Full list of 189 Jehovah's Witnesses (aged between 19 and 84) known to have been charged or named as suspects for "extremism"-related "crimes" as of 31 May 2019. Of these, 29 are in detention, 28 under house arrest and 73 under travel restrictions. Cases against three were handed to court in late May. As of today (31 May) at least 189 Jehovah's Witnesses across Russia face criminal prosecution for exercising their freedom of religion or belief on "extremism"-related charges, which they resolutely deny. The majority are in detention, under house arrest, or under travel restrictions. Armed raids continue on Jehovah's Witness homes, and some people have been arrested at…

On May 23, 2019, Dennis Christensen had his last chance to reach the conscience of those on whom his freedom depended. What did he say in his final opportunity? We publish in Russian an excerpt from remarks he delivered during the appeal hearing in Oryol Regional Court. The court upheld the sentence of six years of imprisonment in a penal colony. https://jw-russia.org/en/news/19053115-887.html ranscripción de la audiencia de apelación del 23/05/2019, en el caso No. 1-37 / 1 por los cargos de Christensen D.O. 282.2 del Código Penal. Yikes! No “data-gathering” according to the new privacy law. What to do? As far as I am concerned, this is a blessing in disguise. Jehovah’s people will adapt. They always do. I even think it will be beneficial for us, overall. We have some people who become obsessed over records, the way some people do with regard to records of any sort. We have some who call back repeatedly if the householder does so much as give them the time of day—training them not to, in my opinion. Working with this new European law will force more discernment and maturity, though initially inconvenient in some respects. I wouldn’t mind if it spread to here in the States. This law w…

You know what I think would be a GREAT new feature for JW.ORG Streaming Programming? ( A rhetorical question, as I realize there are truly infinite answers ....) Have a monthly feature on JW Broadcasting, where Witnesses from all over the world, can call in live, and ask a round table of the Governing Body any questions they want to ask, and have them answered in real time, "on the air" streaming video. They could have it broadcast from the Gazebo on the shores of the Society's Lake at World Headquarters, every Wednesday after the Governing Body has their weekly coordination meeting (weather permitting ...). ...... Sort of Like Trump addressing the n…

So in my neck of the woods here in Rio Rancho, NM, I've been seeing carts being set up at extremely busy intersections. Traffic is high and there is no room to stop and ask questions, and actually it can be a bit distracting to motorist. Is this just a easy cop out for those jw's who are afraid to talk about their belief?

At least three or four times a month, someone will post something like: I am proud to be a JW Seriously, what is up with that? I am not trying to be disrespectful. But I never see anyone here post "I am proud to be a Christian". If you are "proud" to be a JW, it almost sounds like you are boasting about having accomplished a goal, that you were able to do something that others can't do. It almost sounds like you are saying that your salvation is because of something you accomplished on your own.

I find it interesting when so much is compared between the Jews and the JW's. But in my opinion, one big difference between being a Jew before and in the time of Jesus, and being a JW, is choice. If a person was born into the Nation of Israel, they were born under Law and ruled over by the Religious leaders (and the Romans) at that time. There was no choice of being a Jew or not being a Jew. They were born into it. So of course many of them, probably all of them, committed 'sin' and had to make sin offerings. God had chosen that Nation, those people had responsibility but not of their choice. Now, people that enter the JW religion do so voluntarily. ( Un…

Those Wt Study articles are more than an outline, but less than a stand-alone article. They are not really complete until they have served their purpose of being conducted, commented upon and discussed at the congregation meeting. Imagine—from yesterday’s article: Jesus was to be executed for BLASPHEMY. Of course he was troubled: “Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? Father, save me out of this hour.” (John 12:27) People do have a way of turning good into bad.

A grieving mother broke down in tears after she found a Jehovah's Witnesses pamphlet asking 'Can the dead really live again?' left at her son's grave. The woman and her daughter were visiting the 20-year-old's grave at Penrith Cemetery in western Sydney during the first Mother's Day since his suicide when they found the pamphlet. 'Can the dead really live again?' the pamphlet read on the front cover, with the options 'yes', 'no' and 'maybe'. The man's sister said her mother was already struggling to cope with her son's absence on Mother's Day before they found the flyer. 'My mum had been trying to hold it together all morning. It was always going to be…
