HOW TO BAN THE BIBLE? SACRED BOOKS REMAIN DEFENSELESS by Roman Lunkin The attempt to support some religion or even several at the governmental level often leads to unexpected results. Who could have thought that the adoption of a law about the legal immunity of some sacred texts has provoked the prohibition of others? Meanwhile, the theological and legal mechanism of screening out what is sacred and what is not is already under way. In the first place, Jehovah's Witnesses and their version of the Bible have suffered, which is natural since a politically motivated campaign against them has been conducted for a long time, since 2009. We re…

They were uneducated and ordinary men.—Acts 4:13. In recent years, the spiritual instruction provided by Jehovah’s organization has reflected an increased emphasis on simplicity and clarity. Consider three examples. First, there is the simplified edition of The Watchtower. This edition has proved to be, in effect, a loving gift to those who struggle with language or find reading a challenge. Family heads are finding that their children are now more involved in the study of this journal, the main channel of our spiritual feeding program. Second, there is the revised edition of the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures. Many Scriptures now use fewer words, yet t…

From September to December 2015 inclusive at least 35 individuals and three religious organisations exercising freedom of religion or belief were prosecuted in Russia under Administrative Code Article 20.29 ("Production or mass distribution of extremist materials"), Forum 18 News Service notes. Courts imposed fines in 34 of these cases, and one Jehovah's Witness was sentenced to a 10 day jail term later reduced to six days. Two individuals and one Jehovah's Witness community were acquitted. This is an increase on the September to December 2014 figure of 18 such prosecutions. Of the 38 September to December 2015 prosecutions, 19 involved Islamic texts or videos, 17 Jehovah…

802016674_E_cnt_01.mp3 For the third time, Kyrgyzstan’s Prosecutor General has directed the Osh City Prosecutor’s Office to consider opening a criminal investigation against ten police officers. The police illegally raided a religious meeting of Jehovah’s Witnesses in August 2015 and severely beat several in attendance. Despite clear evidence of police misconduct, the Osh City Prosecutor’s Office has refused to open a criminal investigation. Illegal Raid and Heavy-Handed Police Action On Sunday morning, August 9, 2015, ten officers from Department 10 *of the Osh police raided a religious meeting at a rented café where over 40 people had …

802016686_E_cnt_01.mp3 Mike Jalal and Natali Sa’ad are members of the small Christian community of Jehovah’s Witnesses in the Palestinian Territory. Though legally married, they are unable to obtain a marriage certificate. Only recently and with difficulty did they succeed in obtaining a birth certificate for their young son, Andrae. The Sa’ads are not alone. Other Witness couples face the same problem. Because the Witnesses are members of a religion that is not legally recognized in the Palestinian Territory, authorities deny them their basic personal status rights. Lack of Legal Recognition Affects Personal Rights The Sa’ads were marri…

Sharing in the magazine work in the 1940s. Sister Maxine Klutch. (Dyane Claborn) Thank you @gingerproulx for the additional information about the sister in this photo presenting the magazines: This was a staged photo taken in Canada. Maxine died last year, sadly. She was a pioneer during Maurice Duplesi's rule (prime minister and attorney general of Québec) and one of the first to try out using only the Bible in the ministry. She attended the 9th class of Gilead and she and her husband served as CO's when Bethelites didn't marry!! Then they were invited back to Bethel for many decades. They came to North Windham, ME in 1991 where she served as a special pioneer until the …

RUSSIA: INCREASING CRACKDOWN ON RELIGIONS
by Guest Kurt- 0 replies
Rising government restrictions have fostered an atmosphere of intolerance and discrimination against religious minorities and their individual members throughout Russia. International and legal standards mandate that religious minorities be treated fairly and without discrimination. But Russia’s misuse of the Extremism Law contravenes these standards. Its official actions cannot be countenanced under UN and OSCE standards, including the Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of Intolerance and of Discrimination based on Religion or Belief, Article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Helsinki Accords. The international…

When Michael the archangel had a difference with the Devil and was disputing about Moses’ body, he did not dare to bring a judgment against him in abusive terms.—Jude 9. As Michael the archangel, Jesus “had a difference with the Devil” and “was disputing” with that wicked one. The issue involved “Moses’ body.” Recall that after Moses died, Jehovah buried the body in an unknown location. (Deut. 34:5, 6) Whatever evil purpose the Devil had in mind for Moses’ remains, Michael took a courageous stand. One reference work notes that the Greek terms rendered “had a difference” and “disputing” are “also used in relation to a legal dispute” and may suggest “that Michael ‘chal…

I am grateful to Christ Jesus our Lord, who imparted power to me, because he considered me faithful by assigning me to a ministry, although formerly I was a blasphemer.—1 Tim. 1:12, 13. How can we imitate Paul’s fine example in cultivating and expressing gratitude? Like Paul, we need to meditate on what Jehovah has done for us personally. (Ps. 116:12) If you were asked, ‘What blessings from Jehovah are you grateful for?’ how would you answer? Would you include your precious relationship with Jehovah? Or the forgiveness that you receive because of your faith in Christ’s ransom sacrifice? Would you relate the names of brothers and sisters who have stood by you during v…

(Press Release) — The three local congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses warmly invites you to attend a one-day Circuit Assembly on Sunday, March 6, 2016, in the Taga Hall of Saipan World Resort. The theme of the Assembly is “Imitate Jehovah!” based on Ephesians 5:1. The assembly program will show how to discern God’s qualities in various Bible accounts and how to apply them. All of us should reflect on how holy, just, wise, loyal, courageous, impartial and forgiving Jehovah God is. Doing so will deepen our appreciation for him, moving us to imitate his qualities to the full. At 1:30 p.m. there will also be a Public Discourse entitled, “How Does God Feel About Rel…

JEHOVAH’S Witnesses from the states, Guam and South Africa are here to build or re-build the houses of local church members whose homes were damaged or destroyed by Typhoon Soudelor. The 10 volunteers have been building or rebuilding houses since arriving on island in January. Bruce Cook of the Jehovah’s Witnesses said the volunteers have so far constructed two houses on Quartermaster Rd., and one each in Kagman, Chinatown and Gualo Rai. The volunteers will be on island for about two months, and some of them have done disaster relief work in other jurisdictions or countries, Cook said. These include Mexico, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, …

If you will strictly obey my voice and keep my covenant, you will certainly become my special property out of all peoples, . . . a holy nation.—Ex. 19:5, 6. A man who kept his mind fixed on the things above was Moses. His was no ordinary education. Not only was Egypt the preeminent power at the time but Moses was living in Pharaoh’s household. Little wonder that with this advanced education, Moses became “powerful in his words and deeds.” Imagine the possibilities this would have opened up for him! Yet, Moses had his mind set on more lofty matters—on doing God’s will. Early in his life, Moses’ own mother, Jochebed, had surely taught him about the God of the Hebrews. …

A HEART TOUCHING STORY❤ ( take a hanky...) SON: "Daddy, may I ask you a question?" DAD: "Yeah sure, what is it?" SON: "Daddy, how much do you make an hour?" DAD: "That's none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?" SON: "I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?" DAD: "If you must know, I make $100 an hour." SON: "Oh! (With his head down). SON: "Daddy, may I please borrow $50?" The father was furious. DAD: "If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so sel…

Seven years up to now Prince turned a Jehovah’s Witness. Though to the right of my info, most people had stopped talking about Prince by then so it didn’t exactly make headlines. The New Yorker has an fascinating temporary interview with him the place he talks about his religion and the way in which it applies to his life. Appears Prince isn’t a sort of fancy, spoiled film star Jehovah’s Witnesses who thinks he should be dealt with greater than everyone else. Granted there aren’t a complete lot of Jehovah’s Witnesses which may be celebs (the Jackson family entails ideas, nonetheless that’s about it), nonetheless Prince will get in the marketplace an identical to everyone …

One of his most interesting cases came in the 1980s, when John represented defendants in a case involving Jehovah’s Witnesses. “A good, pure constitutional case doesn’t come along very frequently,” John said. He represented five Jehovah’s Witness overseers (like elders) and the church, who were being sued by a man and a woman who had been disfellowshipped from the church, an act similar to excommunication. “They didn’t get properly divorced from their spouses” before getting together, prompting their expulsion for adultery, Paul explained. John represented the church and the overseers, arguing Jehovah’s Witnesses had a right to freely exercise their religio…
