    Ability App

Alex Knoll, the brains and passion behind the Ability App, has taken several giant steps toward realizing his dream this week. Thursday, the 12-year-old entrepreneur appeared in-person on the Ellen DeGeneres show. He explained his concept of a free, mobile app that people will be able to download and use to find and rate places for 'disability friendliness' and dozens of accessibility features. A big barrier for Alex had been funding. But Ellen stood up on her show and wrote out a check to Alex for $25,000!!! Her team also connected him to a group that will help put the app together. Last summer, Alex and his mom joined Deb Wolfer and I to perform an A4A review of SCRAPS. He really knows his stuff. Here is a link to the story and video clip from KREM: http://www.krem.com/entertainment/television/watch-ellen-degeneres-helps-sponsor-n-idaho-kids-app-for-people-with-disabilities/443026147
  2. Amazon is giving a price break on its prime service to low-income consumers on food stamps and other government assistance. Customers who receive benefits such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or food stamps, can pay $5.99 per month for membership, which would include free shipping and unlimited streaming of movies and TV shows with Prime Video. Customers will need to qualify for the discount by having a valid EBT card, which are typically used to disburse funds for food stamps and other government aid programs, such as the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF.) 4. Amazon is customer-obsessed to the point that everyone has to be able to work in a call center. As part of a training session each year, Jeff Bezos asks thousands of Amazon managers, including himself, to attend a two-day call center training program. In the early days, Bezos had brought an empty chair to the meetings and informed his top executives that they should consider the empty seat as being occupied by a customer, who is "the most important person in the room."
  5. I would not hesitate to be the judge, jury and executioner right then and there in that situation. I would even try to keep my teeth ;-) And the law would be on my side. Do Kingdom Halls prohibit you from carrying weapons? I'm not even sure what Catholic churches say about carrying weapons inside them.
  6. @Allen Smith it's not the @The Librarian that sets the guidelines or owns this site. I have no horse in your race.... I did not create this site to protect your corporate propaganda or anyone else's for that matter. @The Librarian has brought his over 400,000 social media followers to my site here and for that I am thankful for the traffic and the diverse opinions and commentary. I see him adding value here whereas you, @Allen Smith seem to spend most of your time angrily denouncing other members of your religion. Why?
  7. So he "knew" what he was doing was wrong. Interesting. Yet he went ahead with it. Motivators could have been.... religious peer pressure? Threats?

  9. A man is dining in a fancy restaurant, and there is a gorgeous redhead sitting at the next table. He had been checking her out since he sat down, but lacked the nerve to talk with her.Suddenly she sneezes and her glass eye comes flying out of its socket towards the man. He reflexively reaches out, grabs it out of the air, and hands it back."Oh my, I am so sorry," the woman says as she pops her eye back in place. "Let me buy you dessert to make it up to you."They enjoy a wonderful dessert together, and afterwards, the woman invites him to the theater followed by drinks. After paying for everything, she asks him if he would like to come to her place for a nightcap...and stay for breakfast the next morning. The next morning, she cooks a gourmet meal with all the trimmings. The guy is amazed! Everything has been incredible!"You know," he said, "you are the perfect woman. Are you this nice to every guy you meet?""No," she replies...... "You just happened to catch my eye
  10. A friend this week told me that he goes onto Monster, Indeed, CareerBuilder, DICE, etc. at 11 pm at night because it appears that all the sites take a massive upload at that time. He’s able to immediately find brand new jobs he’s interested in and can apply to immediately. He could wait until the system automatically sends him jobs the next day but in many cases employers only look at the first 50 or 100 or 150 applicants, as he did when he recruited, and when he applies the next day he does not receive as many interviews or inquiries. In CareerBuilder and Monster he can also go into the settings and see how many times a job has been viewed. He was a hiring manager who worked closely with his recruiter and knew how fast some of his IT jobs met the 100 or 150 applicant maximum he wanted to review. Has anyone had any experience with any of this?
  11. Imzy was a social media site led by ex-Reddit employee Dan McComas, which purported to create a "friendlier" alternative to Reddit.[3] The site was started in 2016 by six former employees of Reddit and one of Twitter. Some of the first publications to announce collaboration with Imzy include Lenny Letter and the podcasts Harmontown and Black Girls Talking. On 24 May 2017, Imzy announced that the site was shutting down as they had failed to 'find [their] place in the market'. History Product Chief Dan McComas left Reddit in July 2015 over disagreements on how the site should be run. This happened during a revolt by users that involved the shutdown of the Ask Me Anything subreddits. In August 2015, McComas's wife Jessica Moreno, stepped down as Head of Community at Reddit. This made her the fourth prominent female employee to leave the company in that month. Moreno accused a Recode article of insinuating a connection with the other three departures and stated that she was leaving for family reasons. Nevertheless, she later stated that rape and death threats were a part of her experience working for Reddit. Other founding members of Imzy cited the inconvenience of working in San Francisco as motivation to start a new business. The following year, McComas, Moreno and the rest of their team founded Imzy in Salt Lake City. Upon launch, it raised $3 million from Charles River Ventures and O’Reilly AlphaTech Ventures. The name was chosen as a happy-sounding word that could be easily searched. Business model Imzy integrates a system for users to tip one another and takes a percentage of each transaction. On the company's decision to avoid running ads, McComas stated "you get into this game of selling certain kinds of ads, and then you need to add enough traffic to those communities. This flies directly in the face of keeping communities healthy." McComas has also expressed a desire to enforce a positive atmosphere through the architecture of the website rather than direct intervention. As part of this effort, groups on Imzy only accept posts from people who are already subscribed. Also, Imzy uses community-wide as opposed to site-wide usernames to disincentivize the creation of new accounts. Moreno has stated that some Imzy accounts belong to people who are known for breaking some of Reddit's rules. She has stated that they are acting in a thoughtful manner on Imzy and attributed this to a culture that rewards a different type of discourse. In June 2016, Gina Bianchini revealed that she was pessimistic about Imzy becoming more than a niche platform. In November 2016, Dan McComas told Emily Chang that president-elect Donald Trump would have been banned on Imzy a long time ago, in reference to Twitter's targeted harassment issues. In May 2017, Dan McComas announced that the site would shortly be ceasing operations due to having failed to find its place in the market.
  12. They seemed like a "nice" reddit and an overall good community. What do you all think about extending an olive branch to that community to join our forum? I personally would like to welcome them. Are they any features that they had that would be essential on here?
