Research released Tuesday showed that two species of bacteria with impossibly long names, Porphyromonas gingivalis and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, were associated with a sharply increased risk of getting pancreatic cancer. The data showed that carrying both bacteria was linked to a 50 percent increased likelihood of contracting the cancer, said Jiyoung Ahn, associate director of population sciences at the Laura and Isaac Perlmutter Cancer Center at NYU Langone Medical Center.

At this point correlation does not equal causation.... BUT...

Ahn said about 1.5 percent of Americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and that only 5 percent will live for five years or more. If scientists can figure out the role of oral bacteria, she said, it could point to new ways to screen for and possibly prevent the cancer.

  6. Prince dead at Paisley Park estate in Minnesota, TMZ reports

CHANHASSEN, Minn. (KMSP) - Prince is dead at 57, TMZ and the Associated Press have confirmed, citing the pop star's publicist. Law enforcement at the scene confirmed to Fox 9 that a death is under investigation at Paisley Park in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Paisley Park is the compound where Prince lives, records music and hosts parties and concerts, including one party just a few days ago.

Bernard "Bernie" Sanders (born September 8, 1941) is an American politician and the junior United States senatorfrom Vermont. He is a candidate for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States in the 2016 election. A member of the Democratic Party since 2015,[2] Sanders had been the longest-serving independent in U.S. congressional history, though his caucusing with the Democrats entitled him to committee assignments and at times gave Democrats a majority. Sanders became the ranking minority member on the Senate Budget Committee in January 2015; he had previously served for two years as chair of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee. A self-proclaimed democratic socialist, Bernie Sanders is pro-labor and favors greater economic equality.[3][4]

Sanders was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York City, and graduated from the University of Chicago in 1964. While a student he was an active civil rights protest organizer for the Congress of Racial Equality and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. After settling in Vermont in 1968, Sanders ran unsuccessful third-party campaigns for governorand U.S. senator in the early to mid-1970s. As an independent, he was elected mayor of Burlington—Vermont's most populous city—in 1981, where he was reelected three times. In 1990 he was elected to represent Vermont's at-large congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. In 1991 Sanders co-founded the Congressional Progressive Caucus. He served as a congressman for 16 years before being elected to the U.S. Senate in 2006. In 2012, he wasreelected with 71% of the popular vote.

Sanders rose to national prominence following his 2010 filibuster against the proposed extension of the Bush tax cuts. He favors policies similar to those of social democratic parties in Europe, particularly those instituted by the Nordic countries, and has built a reputation as a leading progressive voice on issues such as campaign finance reform, corporate welfare, global warming, income inequality, LGBT rights, parental leave, and universal healthcare. Sanders has long been critical of U.S. foreign policy and was an early and outspoken opponent of the Iraq War. He is also outspoken on civil liberties and civil rights, particularly criticizing racial discrimination in the criminal justice system as well as advocating for privacy rights against mass surveillance policies such as the USA PATRIOT Act and the NSA surveillance programs.

    Dear Cadillac,

You should call me before rolling this mistake out worldwide.

Really? That is the BEST slogan you all could come up with?

Your brand has SO much potential yet you are squandering your capital.

Call me for a free consultation. :)

Hint: The direction I would point you in looks a lot closer to Tesla and less like the past

    @Uwe Ellinghaus

  9. Why do Cadillac car showrooms lock their cars and activate alarms? I just tried to sit in a new ATS and the alarm went off.

Not a salesperson around today.  Not even with this alarm going off.

Ironically I complain if there are too many salesmen and now I'm shocked there are none.  I must be hard to please.  Or I am a captive audience. :(

  10. I took the car by the Carr Cadillac dealership on Friday and they didn't have a mechanic who could look at it until today. Tuesday afternoon.

So here I am waiting for an $114 diagnostic to hear the bad news.

Meanwhile I am in the showroom looking at the newest Cadillac CTS's and feel like my car is "old"

I wonder if cars could be built to feel as "tight" as new after 10 years?

Entropy just happens I guess. Or should I believe in evil engineered obsolescence?

Nobody enjoys this phase of car ownership  Maybe I should call it "service time" era

It my be fantasy to think that Tesla's do not age and fall apart like these Cadillacs

I guess all in all they are good cars   I just want better!

  11. In a World of Risks: A New Commitment for Peace

    10 – 11 May 2016

The President of the General Assembly, Mogens Lykketoft, will organise a high-level Thematic Debate of the UN General Assembly focused on UN, Peace and Security on 10-11 May 2016. This event will be a platform to identify key threats and engage in a strategic reflection about today’s challenges to international peace and security. Furthermore, it will allow for a consideration about the means, tools and instruments available within a UN-context to tackle these challenges as well as the responsibilities and institutions required for an effective collective security architecture.

Building on the common trends and synergies from the most recent UN peace and security reviews, including the review of UN peace operations [on the basis of both, the High Level Independent Panel on Peace Operations and the Secretary-General’s report on the future of UN peace operations], the Peacebuilding Architecture Review and the Global Study on the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000) on women, peace and security, as well as a series of coordinated, independently organized regional workshops and seminars, the thematic debate will take place as the world is considering how best to implement the ambitious and wide-ranging 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as well as the Paris Agreement on climate change and who – as the next Secretary-General – will lead the UN in this and other equally vital tasks.

Member States will be invited to participate at the highest possible level. Observers, UN entities, civil society, research institutions with global and regional reach, media, and other stakeholders will also be invited to attend.
