I'm a bit skeptical about this guy. He's American and as an American he will have American views. Before I came to live in the USA I never heard about gangs in Europe, at least not to the extent he is talking about. Europeans don't have that American gang mentality. There is of course organized crime, but I don't think that's the issue here, because organized criminals already have guns. I doubt that while martial law is in effect they would go around shooting each other.

I think many people who have an ax to grind with enemies will shoot each other during chaos.  I am not naïve as to the capabilities of lawless people. 

I remember thing, as a teenager, that it would take about 400 miles per hour for those fins to have any value., but it would not matter as the airflow would tear the car apart.….. same with Spock’s ears.

A long time ago I researched the Book of Abraham.  It uses an "adapted" picture from a Book of the DEAD and the funerary text which was  found with a mummy/  Joseph smith only bought this papyri and then pretended that he received "devine help'  to translate it.  Later the papyri was said to have burnt (in a fire that was deliberately set).

Agreed = I have the same sentiments.  My mother, when close to her 80s used to reread Agatha Christy because she said she could not remember how they ended BUT as you say it is sometimes the emotional and intellectual journey to get from point to point in a drama that makes it good!

His wife was deeply suspicious of Smith and his visions. She was vehemently against that farmer, Martin Harris was his name, mortgaging his farm to finance the printing. Harris himself balked at the price tag of the printer, but writes Merrill: “When Harris hesitated Joseph came up with a divine “revelation” ordering him to finance the publication whereupon Harris mortgaged his farm and his wife left him.”
Yeah, I did such things back then but I wouldn’t now. My guess is you would not either. Possibly I should, but they’re just kids far away from home, under enormous pressure to stay where they are. (as @xero’s book makes clear). I am not in position to benefit them but i am in position to mess them up. So if I disagree, I am not forceful about it.
I heard or read somewhere some top Mormon honcho say how much he appreciated when people are nice to their missionaries. ‘I can do that,’ I thought, and I have behaved that way since. In a small town festival in Pennsylvania, my wife and I came across a couple of them at their station. I just engaged them in chat. To their obligatory thrusts I said who and what I was and that an effort to sway me elsewhere would go nowhere. After that I just asked about them, who they were, where they came from, are they homesick, and so forth.
The title character of xero’s—the book is autobiographical—is thwarted from abandoning his assignment, something he really really wants to do. “Have you prayed about it?” a higher up want to know. He replied that he had. ‘What did the Holy Spirit say to you?’ was the follow-up question. He replied that the Holy Spirit had said it was okay. “The Holy Spirit doesn’t work that like!” was his answer.
The book’s author spins his own talk alongside that of Joseph Smith. He has done his homework, spinning some non-Mormon historical details that only someone familiar with the region’s development (which I am) would know.

I have dealt with them before. Us Truthers have essentially a Grey Man mentality when we are close to a SHTF. We are not like our Prepper counterparts, but we can hold our own.
A Gray Man or Woman is someone who can blend effortlessly in with the crowd or in dire situations, resulting in them being easily overlooked, even unnoticed. It's a form of protection (even personal) allowing one to move freely in otherwise difficult surroundings, in some instances, some Grey Men/Women trained themselves to adapt even further. To Preppers, it is seen as a method of urban camouflage and disguise that can be used with or without any additional props. Grey Men are capable of maneuvering around unprepared persons and are capable of linking with their circle of people who share similar traits. I am more in tune with this even more due to experience in the islands and the situations I have been in over the years prior to being of the community, which learning and adapting only enhanced this mentality. Granted Truthers who adhere to this look into information, we are quite informative, knowing what is going on around us or elsewhere and how it can effect our surroundings, i.e. we knew/know gas prices will go up, medicine will be restricted/limited and in some cases may be rare, etc. so we are well above that notation, as is our Prepper counterparts.
As for the other remark, no one would be able to tell if myself or any Truther has home grown food granted how we move without being noticed in that regard. We are also less likely persons to be tracked. Skills are also concealed due to bring extremely unnoticed.
 
A less complicated example would be, people not being able to equate Batman to Bruce Wayne, vice versa, so to speak, cannot link a playboy millionaire to a brooding Vigilante.

Just curious, how would you deal with unprepared people who would try to steal the food you have grown?

I agree that Joseph Smith was anything but Charles Taze Russell. But you don't have to dig very deep among early LDS to find a lot of things they should be ashamed and embarrassed about, but they seem oblivious to it.
A couple of their young elders (there's an oxymoron) wanted to study with me around 1995, and I let them come back about 6 times before they tired of me. The Internet was just a startup operation then, but one of the first things I did when I discovered it was to collect a ton of info on them. Our local town library also had a small collection of anti-Mormon books.
I wanted to discuss all these things with the Mormon elders, and one of them was aware of some of the claims, and he apparently mortified his partner, who stopped coming back with him on visit number 3. Normally, they give up on critics and questioners immediately, but I found that if I prefaced every criticism with "I have prayed about this question  . . . " that he would sincerely try to respond.
I took a job in a bank after Bethel and when the interviewer found out I was a JW, he said that they like to hire JWs, Mormons and Seventh Day Adventists. (And when we were looking for a housekeeper/babysitter the agency recommended that we hire Seventh Day Adventists or Jehovah's Witnesses, and this person did NOT know our religion.) I didn't like being classed with "competitors" but it said something about sincerity and honesty. @xero has correctly pointed out in other topics that there are many individuals in the world (and in other religions) who are often "better" in many ways. And here he has said what you quoted: "even though certain beliefs are demonstrably wrong about mormonism, the effects on them seem in many cases to be positive." Agreed.

Maybe. My insurance man was a Mormon. He died, but I am still with the agency he founded. (whether Mormons or not I am not sure—I think they are) I turned to him upon the recommendation of another Witness for business liability insurance. In time he commented on some scheme I had bought into from some brothers for health care insurance. He’s looked it over, he said, ‘and the premiums are unrealistically low.’ I was a young man then. I said how it is different with the Witnesses because they cut out the middleman and they are not greedy and it is not really insurance but pooled resources and all but said it had God’s smile of approval on it, but in time the monthly newsletter began acknowledging subscribers were asking why their bills were not being paid. To my knowledge, it was not dishonesty, just starry-eyed incompetence. I never got any premiums back, but that is true with any insurance. I never had any claim to submit—it was ‘major medical’ only, not routine doctor visits. I recall a Watchtower observing much later that just because someone is a good Christian, that does not mean he is a good businessman.
Yes. Maybe what we see is only what rises to the surface but they are trustworthy people. It is strange because so many of the roots are downright screwy. They originate from my neck of the woods, you know. At an antique/collectibles/junk shop I picked up a set of books by local historian Arch Merrill. Pioneer Profiles (1957) has a chapter on “The Mormon Prophets” There I learned that Joseph Smith was anything but the Mormon equivalent of Charles Taze Russell.

Is the guy just anti-Mormon? Doesn’t seem so. His next sentence is:

Maybe I’ll have to say of them the same thing I say to people who pound us over the head with inconsistencies from years past: “If you have to go back 100 years to dig up dirt, there can’t be that much dirt to dig.”

You mention or tag this fellow so often that I am convinced you are a secret fan. Nothing else can account for this constant craving of yours for his attention.

Truthers hold no creeds, as is anyone who is aware of the apostolic church. Creeds are interconnected with agendas, this is the reason why Mainstream Christianity is an issue because they attest to a Creed that never originated with the early church. Truthers are neutral, and do not favor Left or Right, but they speak out against falsehood and the hypocrisy of those associated with the paradigm, call out misleading misinformation. There are Christians who are Truthers. 
That being said, the community is a prime target for those Agenda driven.

Absolutely to your last sentence there. And you are right about Jimmy Dore, too. The Cenk team (TYT) experimented with a few political "leanings" and was even picked up for a show on MS-NBC when those leanings went close enough to mainstream, and pro-war. His ability to switch it up tells me that part of that must be for monetary traction. Amy Goodman (D.N.) also stopped doing the journalism that was too critical to Western warmongering, and is often just another voice for U.S. imperialism, despite their claims.
Jimmy Dore is often dumb, and is sometimes helped out by Grayzone's Max Blumenthal or Aaron Mate, etc. Dore is prone to exaggerate or just get stuff plain wrong. But at least he is refreshingly self-deprecating and humble enough to allow himself to be corrected by those who know the situation a little better. Of course, the Grayzone also puts on ideological blinders (looking left). But they are handling the Ukraine situation correctly.
I like it that Aaron Mate admitted where he was wrong about his Ukraine expectations, and that he does NOT defend Putin, but realizes that what he is doing is highly illegal. But he puts it in proper perspective when comparing to the illegal things like it being done daily by the United States.
Dore turns the basic stuff he learns from his Twitter feed and folks like these and turns them into talking points. But they often come across as disjointed, disorganized, and non-prioritized.
He let Aaron Mate do his thing on a recent one, which I also thought was a quick way to get an understanding of how NATO and Natural Gas fits in. But it's also a good perspective from the US coup in 2014, Biden's pro-war complicity and corruption, and the actual more nuanced answer to the question I raised in the original question that started this topic:
