  1. Just shows how wrong you can be. Your presumption of happiness seems to be entirely material. That may well be at the core of your perception.
  2. I don't feel this way. They said read the Bible daily, I did, and life got better. I still do, life still gets better. Everybody I know does the same to a greater or lesser degree and we are all commensurately happier. I have encountered seven GB members in my time and in my limited contacts, I have found them to all be real gentlemen, friendly and considerate, unaffected, quite pleasant to deal with, free from arrogance. The one I did know well remembered me by name on a chance encounter 10 years later, even to the point of taking up the conversation where we had left off. And believe me, I am no one special. I just don't have the same expectations as you I think, hence I don't suffer from the same disillusionment and disappointment. By the way, I haven't met anyone yet who doesn't get things wrong, and I don't expect GB members to be any different. I have known many anointed ones over the years, due to where I have been located. Many of these were baptised prior to 1914. One who was a member of the first UK family to come into the "truth". I have also known many others, baptised in the 1930s. My encounters with these folk have only confirmed my faith, not shaken it, regardless of their varied viewpoints. I guess I just don't have the same take on things as you and some others here it seems. I'm sorry you have had negative experiences. ☺️
  3. It is only inconvenient at the start for many of us. It just means a change of routine. Things we do later in the day because of the ministry, we can do earlier because of the ministry. There's no joy in collecting not homes. Change the order, and we will find more joy, and what was once inconvenient becomes today's must do!
  4. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intraoperative_blood_salvage As long as the circulation is not interrupted, a Jehovah's witness MAY conscientously submit to the use of a cell saver. https://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/2000767 "Cell salvage in South Tees NHS Trust Currently the trust has five cell salvage machines. Four are on loan from the company which supply cell salvage equipment, and one is owned by the trust after it was donated by Jehovah’s Witness. The trust pays for the consumables that are used each time cell salvage is performed. The funding for this service comes from the pathology department." https://www.southtees.nhs.uk/services/anaesthetics-and-theatre/theatres/cell-salvage/
  5. Apart from "soon", I haven't seen anything more specific recently. Maybe I missed it? Nobody has really topped "Armageddon Ernie" Beavor who used to say (over 50 years ago), "Armageddon is so close, you could spit on it!" Anyway, regardless of detail, I haven't seen anyone GB-wise violating 2 Pet 3:12.............. yet. Have you?
  6. I prefer scriptural quotes on such serious matters. Joel 2:32 is pretty relevant (for me) "And everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will be saved" Peter and Paul referred to this at Acts 2:32 and Rom.10:13. I may be missing your logic on this, but to me a "Jehovah's Witness ... branded as "devious, (self- the paper misquotes the judge) righteous and arrogant" would render erroneous a claim that only Jehovah's Witnesses would be saved. Religious designations don't save people.
  7. I suppose it is more a question of would a Jehovah's witness want this sort of treatment? "Autologous Conditioned Plasma or ACP, as it is more commonly known, is plasma that is rich in platelets. Another closely related procedure uses Platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Blood is extracted from a patient and then ACP/PRP is extracted using the process of centrifugation. ACP/PRP is usually used in order to facilitate the process of regeneration in orthopaedic and surgical procedures." "For the patient, the process is pretty much similar to a regular blood test. A small sample of blood is extracted from the patient’s body using a syringe – just like in a blood test. The blood is drawn from a superficial vein in a small quantity. After the blood is drawn, the role of a patient is over – temporarily. This blood is then passed through the process of centrifugation (rapid spinning to separate out the different elements of the blood). In this process, the autologous conditioned plasma is separated from other components present in the blood. After the ACP/PRP is conditioned, it is then injected back into the body of the patient at the point where it is needed" http://www.londonorthopaedic.com/specialties/autologous-conditioned-plasma-acp/ 1. It is a primary blood componet (as are platelets). 2. It is made from the patient's own blood (Autologous). 3. It is separated from the patients circulatory system, processed in a centrifuge, returned later to the patient's body. Point 3 would be the determining factor in making such a treatment unacceptable to one of Jehovah's witnesses.
  8. This is actually good news for everyone because he is unlikely to be seen on the streets again. And Thumbs up to the walesonline.co.uk people who seem to be able to present news about Jehovah's Witnesses in a fairly objective manner. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/inside-biggest-annual-gathering-jehovahs-14991197 An interesting point relative to other postings on this, the judges statement: "The Jehovah's Witness was branded as "devious, righteous and arrogant", shows how errroneous is the claim that we think "only Jehovahs Witnesses will be saved".
  9. 'Cos there's only one? All the talk around understanding what "this generation" really is seems to be really about "how long are the last days"? If we knew that, then we would be closer to knowing "that day and hour", which isn't going to happen. Although many seem to use this fact to echo the sentiment of 2Pet.3:4: "Where is this promised presence of his?", Habbakuk's words still apply to this modern day of Jehovah: "it will not be late". (Hab.2:3). So, unsettling as it might be for some, we just will not know how long Jesus meant by "this generation" until the end comes, and no amount of fancy footwork is going to change that.
  10. *** it-2 p. 1158 Virgin *** Although the Hebrew word bethu·lahʹ means “virgin,” another term (ʽal·mahʹ) appears at Isaiah 7:14: “Look! The maiden [ha·ʽal·mahʹ] herself will actually become pregnant, and she is giving birth to a son, and she will certainly call his name Immanuel.” The word ʽal·mahʹ means “maiden” and can apply to a nonvirgin or a virgin. It is applied to “the maiden” Rebekah before marriage when she was also called “a virgin” (bethu·lahʹ). (Ge 24:16, 43) Under divine inspiration, Matthew employed the Greek word par·theʹnos (virgin) when showing that Isaiah 7:14 found final fulfillment in connection with the virgin birth of Jesus, the Messiah. Both Matthew and Luke state clearly that Jesus’ mother Mary was then a virgin who became pregnant through the operation of God’s holy spirit.—Mt 1:18-25; Lu 1:26-35 LXX translators appear to have used the Greek word par·theʹnos at Is 7:14. So do you mean that the wording of Isaiah 7:14 was altered by post time of Christ revisionists of the LXX such as Aquila "Ponticus" of Sinope?
  11. Not sure about this view as applying across the board. It is quite possible that there may be some who donate money to "the organisation" and who have "an extreme ego". But to equate universally that unlaudable disposition with the notion that one could be "helping Jehovah" is not a logical or fair assessment. Paul himself terms Christians as "God's fellow workers" after describing the preaching and teaching work in an agricultural metaphor. "Fellow workers" or collaborators do help each other to accomplish a task. Paul ensures that there is no "egotistical" element to that view by crediting growth (success) to Jehovah himself, and by attriburing his own role in that shared enterprise to God's "undeserved kindness". So without labouring the point further, I see the notion of "helping Jehovah" akin to the pleasure a child may take in "helping" a loving father in a task he is carrying out. The father does not need the assistance of his child and, indeed, may have to redo or complete much of the task himself due to the childs inexperience. But no one could deny the pleasure he would take in sharing in the task with his appreciative child, and taking pleasure in the child's obvious delight in working together with their beloved father. "Look what we have done" the Father proudly proclaims to his beaming child, regardless of the fact that most of the work can really be credited to himself. (Compare the paternal attitude expressed at Pro.27:11) Now, that holds good for the greater works carried out by true Christians today, whether they are contributed to in the form of time, energy and/or material and financial contributions. "So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor. For we are God’s fellow workers." 1Cor.3:7-9.
  12. As SM has cited, Luke 23:(33)-34 indicates the ones that Jesus was speaking about included specifically those who nailed him to the stake and those who cast lots for his garments. "And when they got to the place called Skull, they nailed him to the stake there alongside the criminals, one on his right and one on his left. But Jesus was saying: “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Furthermore, they cast lots to distribute his garments." Jewish leaders had a different destiny, Matt 23:33. Those influenced by them may have recourse to Jehovah's mercy. The evildoers? They were not immediately involved, although one of them missed a great opportunity.
  13. "everyone gets a second chance" There seems to be some kind of fallacy in this idea. It is a very old criticism of the notion that the "resurrection of the unrighteous" will allow humans who have not served the Creator acceptably under Satanic domination of this earth to have an opportunity to do so during the MIllenial reign of Christ, by means of an earthly resurrection. This is termed (by some) as a "second chance". The derogatory term "Second Chancers" was used in the 19th century of Bible Students who believed in this application of Paul's words (Acts 24:15). But, there is no "second" chance as such. There is only one opportunity to get life.
  14. twat twat,twɒt/ noun VULGAR SLANG 1. a woman's genitals. 2. a person regarded as stupid or obnoxious. verb INFORMAL•BRITISH 1. hit or punch (someone). "if my best mate said that I'd twat him"
  15. Even the good old "BEEB" picked this one up. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-45815889 Perhaps this is an example of what WT August 2018 p4 pp5 called "an exaggerated and outrageous account" as there appears to be a conflict in the way the story has been spun: Jehovah's Witnesses Are Not Related to Ammunition in Kirov
  16. Jehovah's Witnesses Are Not Related to Ammunition in Kirov October 12, 2018 Artifacts since WWII. Photo source: Grigorenko / depositphotos.com On October 9, 2018, in the city of Kirov, during a search of the house of retired Vladimir Bogomolov, collecting artifacts from the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945), investigators seized fragments of knowingly unfit rusty shells. The man was searched because his 69-year-old spouse (the only one of her entire family) professes the religion of Jehovah's Witnesses. A woman does not share her husband's fascination with antiques. Thus, the report that the ammunition was seized allegedly from Jehovah's Witnesses is not true. Jehovah's Witnesses do not take weapons for conscience reasons. For this position they appeared before tribunals of different countries and went to concentration camps. They will be grateful to the media for clarifying the misunderstanding . Vladimir Bogomolov, from whom the relics were confiscated, was in the past an active participant in the search movement (aimed at burying the remains of the soldiers who died in World War II), the brigadier of the search party. On the activities of his squad was written in the newspapers. On October 9, 2018, upon the discovery of artifacts, a criminal case on the illegal possession of weapons was instituted, it was allocated in a separate proceeding. Items sent for examination. The criminal prosecution of peaceful believers, including searches and arrest of civilians in Kirov, was the result of a miscarriage of justice — the recognition of all registered organizations of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia as “extremist” at once. Believers appeal this decision to the European Court of Human Rights.  The Human Rights Council under the President of the Russian Federation  expresses concern about the increasing religious repression.
