  1. Something doesn't look good in the USA ...

    2014 USA 1,243,387 PEAK. 2014 USA 13,871 CONGS

    2015 USA 1,231,867 PEAK. 2015 USA 14,063 CONGS

    2016 USA 1,231,609 PEAK. 2016 USA 14,040 CONGS

So ... 8510 less peak pubs since 2014 and 1024 Congs less since 2015.

  2. This doesn't even take into account payouts in lawsuits. We know that there have been many of those that were sealed where we cannot even see what the settlement amount was, and there are recent multi-million dollar judgments that are public.

At this point, I don't see what they have left to sell other than investments they may be sitting on or Kingdom Halls...but even a Kingdom Hall in a very expensive area isn't going to sell for more than somewhere between a few hundred thousand USD to possibly a million if it was in an urban area with high property values.

They're bleeding, and it isn't stopping. It seems clear from this why they cut back on traveling overseers. It would be interesting to see how much they have cut back on missionaries. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if most of their costs are paying for Bethelites and their healthcare, among other things. Bethelites are part of the Special Order of Full Time Servants, just like special pioneers, missionaries, etc. They're included in that dollar amount.

Edit: I just realized this ALSO doesn't take into account how much they spend building Warwick. Do we even know that amount? Probably less than $100,000,000 I am thinking

  3. Over the last thirteen years (from 2005) the Watchtower says they've spent more on special pioneers, missionaries, and traveling overseers in their field service assignments - a total of $2,204,000,000 - than the total of ALL the monies they received from all Brooklyn properties sales combined, in the same time period.

    JW Broadcasting, May 2015

"In an effort to keep you informed of the support that is needed for this great work I have the following information to share. We have looked forward to this next fiscal year and projected the expenditure for all the theocratic initiatives we are scheduling. In doing the math we found that the amount of money flowing out will be much greater than the amount of money we have coming in at this time."

    Look at the 9:08 area.....

I believe the Watchtower, over the years, has slowly evolved into a colossal international organization that has grown and grown. There's A LOT of people on the 'payroll' - even 'volunteers' cost money in expenses, feeding, looking after, and accommodation - and it all adds up. Big time.

In 1966, there was just one Bethelite for every 664 JWs - by 2015, there was one Bethelite for every 307 JWs.

During the following Service Years, Watchtower says they spend the following on caring for special pioneers, missionaries, and traveling overseers in their field service assignments. In 'real terms', allowing for inflation, the WT's spend between 2005 compared to 2017 increased by around 60%.

    Year Amount
    2017 $202 million
    2016 $213 million
    2015 $236 million
    2014 $224 million
    2013 $200 million
    2012 $184 million
    2011 $173 million
    2010 $155 million
    2009 $140 million
    2008 $141 million
    2007 $121 million
    2006 $111 million
    2005 $104 million
    TOTAL $2,204,000,000

  4.

    GRAND TOTAL OF $2,194,513,000

    • It was announced in 2003 that the printing was to be moved to Wallkill leading to the sell-off of six named properties in Brooklyn for a total of $302,620,000.

    • It was announced in 2011 that the World Headquarters was to be moved to Warwick leading to a sell-off of twenty-seven named properties in Brooklyn for a total of $1,891,893,000.

    • It is believed that the Watchtower still owns two small (non-commercial) residential properties in Brooklyn.

    Printing Moves to Wallkill

    Kingdom Ministry, September 2003

The existing facilities in Brooklyn cannot accommodate the larger, more productive equipment that we need. Therefore, it was determined that the printery operations should be moved to Wallkill where efficient printing, binding, and shipping equipment could be installed.

    World Headquarters Moves to Warwick

    Watchtower, August 15, 2012, page 17

127th annual meeting, held on Saturday, October 1, 2011

There are plans to develop a 248-acre (100 ha) property at Warwick. “Although we are not yet certain of Jehovah’s will regarding Warwick,” said Brother Pierce, “we are proceeding to develop the site with the intention of relocating the world headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses there.” Plans are also being made to use a 50-acre (20 ha) parcel of land situated six miles (10 km) north of Warwick to facilitate the staging of machinery and building material. “Once construction is permitted, we hope to complete the entire project within four years,” said Brother Pierce. “Then our property in Brooklyn can be sold.”

“Has the Governing Body changed its mind about the closeness of the great tribulation?” asked Brother Pierce. “Not at all,” he answered. “If the great tribulation interrupts our plans, that will be wonderful, absolutely wonderful!”

    Jehovah's Witnesses "Fake News" alarm

December 8, 2018, 15:50 uploaded by Armin JorgAuthor: Armin Jorg from Vienna

Numerous negative media reports about a systematically scandalous handling of abuse cases forced the religious community to make a comprehensive counter-attack.

The allegations was a year-long tactics, but this has not led to the allegations decreased. Now they have decided to go over the attack and sweep up all the media that disseminate negative information about Jehovah's Witnesses as malicious, devilish, and hypocritical in order to discredit them in this way.

In the magazine Watchtower of August 2018 (study edition) under the heading "Do you know the facts" now all believers are sworn on how Jehovah's Witnesses have to position themselves correctly.

Here are some excerpts from the article:

Paragraph 1: "the devil and his world wants to distort our thinking". Initially, it shows who the enemies are, the devil and the entire "his" world. Here the all-encompassing conflict in which the believers are stuck becomes clear.

Paragraph 3: "We have to be careful and not believe everything we hear". A good advice, if not meant:

Paragraph 6: "We must be especially careful when it comes to reports of God's people. Let's not forget: the devil is the accuser of God's faithful servants [Jehovah's Witnesses] "then" we are not surprised when we hear outrageous accounts of Jehovah's Witnesses. " It becomes clear here: reports are particularly wrong when negative reports are made about Jehovah's Witnesses. Negative = wrong.

Paragraph 15: "The Bible warns against relying on one's own mind." What is taught to believers in every fundamentalist sect is not to use their own intellect but to trust only the leaders of the religious community. In a box is shown where the believers should inform themselves: Only on the websites of the Watchtower Society reliable information can be found.

Mind you, this religious community is a corporation under public law, for me personally these views are manipulative and anti-social.

  6. On 10/3/2018 at 2:23 AM, JOHN BUTLER said:

Seems like this topic just dried up and didn't get an answer.

Doesn't it say somewhere in the bible that the sins of the fathers will fall upon the children ?

I think we are a long way from Armageddon yet but there must still be millions that have not heard the Good News.

It does seem to go against Jehovah's loving ways to kill innocent people, but in honesty who are we to judge ?

I don't think Armageddon will be as horrific as the JW Org has made out in the past. After all, it's purpose is to remove the wicked not to torture people.

People have often asked, 'What about the mentally ill who cannot understand God's message ?'

Well it's God's plan of action to remove the wicked, not to remove or kill those who cannot understand. I think God will show great mercy to many.

I'm sure many JW's have heard the old story about when they 'arrive' in the New world.

Each will be saying 'How did so and so get through' and the one they are talking about will be saying likewise about the other one.

Let us not judge each other, and let us not presume that we know God's plans completely.

Jehovah, working through His son Jesus Christ, will make perfect judgement on us all.

Allow No Place for the Devil! - Watchtower, March 15th, 1986

    Pages 19 - 20

If a person is questioning whether we are living in “the last days” of this system, or perhaps is entertaining ideas that God is so merciful that he surely will not cause the death of so many millions of people during the “great tribulation,” then this individual already has prepared his heart to listen to such criticisms.

Pure Worship - Restored At Last! - 2018

    Pages 178-179

To survive the coming destruction, individuals need to prove their faith now. As we saw earlier, those who survived Jerusalem’s destruction in 607 B.C.E. demonstrated beforehand their heartfelt rejection of wickedness and their devotion to pure worship. It is similar today. Before the destruction comes, individuals need to be “sighing and groaning”—deeply grieved at heart—over the wickedness of this world. And rather than hide their feelings, they must demonstrate by words and actions their devotion to pure worship. How can they do so? They need to react favorably to the preaching work that is being done today, to continue putting on a Christlike personality, to get baptized in symbol of their dedication to Jehovah, and to support Christ’s brothers loyally. (Ezek. 9:4; Matt. 25:34-40; Eph. 4:22-24; 1 Pet. 3:21) Only those who pursue such a course now—and who enter the great tribulation as pure worshippers—will be in a position to be marked for survival.

    Loyally Supporting Christ’s Brothers - Watchtower, March 15th, 2015

    Pages 25 - 29

“The sheep” and “the goats” represent individuals from all nations. These ones are not anointed by holy spirit. What about the timing of the judgment? This judgment will occur toward the end of the great tribulation just ahead. And what of the reason why people will be judged as either sheep or goats? The outcome hinges on how they have treated the remaining ones of Christ’s spirit-anointed brothers on earth.

Therefore, one of the primary ways that those judged to be sheep show kindness to Christ’s brothers is by supporting them in the preaching work.

The growing number of prospective sheep count it a privilege to support Christ’s brothers not only in the preaching work but also in other practical ways. For example, they give financial contributions and help to build Kingdom Halls, Assembly Halls, and branch facilities, and they loyally obey those appointed by “the faithful and discreet slave” to take the lead.

Soon the angels will unleash the destructive winds of the great tribulation. This will occur after all the remaining ones of Christ’s brothers left on earth have received their final sealing. (Rev. 7:1-3) Before Armageddon breaks out, anointed ones will be taken to heaven. (Matt. 13:41-43) Therefore, now is the time for those who hope to be judged as sheep to support Christ’s brothers loyally.

Fixing Destinies in this Judgement Period - Watchtower, June 1st, 1952

    Pages 341 - 342

This judgment period will be completed during this generation, and when the execution of judgment starts at Armageddon the destinies of all persons then living will have been fixed. Some become perturbed over this, and speculate on the existence of a third class not separated into sheep and goat categories, and which will be resurrected in the millennium for its judgment period. Into this third class they would put all babes and children, and any adults not reached by the Kingdom message by the time Armageddon strikes. Such speculators can produce no solid Scriptural support for their theory. It seems to be spawned either by human sentiment over creature salvation or by a negative, defeatist attitude toward a successful completion of the preaching work. Or by both.

In harmony with the illustration of the sheep and goats, Ezekiel 9:4-6 (AT) shows but two classes, those marked for preservation and the unmarked ones appointed to destruction. And in this prophetic picture of Armageddon’s slaughter note that the executional forces do not spare individuals on the grounds of age or sex: “Slay without mercy or pity. Old men, young men and maidens, little children and women—strike them all dead! But touch no one on whom is the mark.”

Since Ezekiel 9:4-6 shows that some “little children” are in the class eternally destroyed at Armageddon, on what basis are they put in that class in view of the fact that they are too young to be held accountable for themselves? The Scriptures indicate a family responsibility or a family merit under which the destiny of unresponsible children is determined. Scriptural examples of this principle will help meek and teachable ones mold their minds to fit in with God’s view on this matter, will help them get God’s thoughts on it rather than stubbornly clinging to their own.

These facts should make those of Jehovah’s witnesses who are parents soberly reflect on the theocratic training they now give their children. Parents are commanded to instruct their children in God’s ways, and if in these last days parents fail to heed the divine instructions they may bring destruction not only upon themselves but upon their small children at Armageddon.

Some will argue that this text disproves the belief that small children will perish with their wicked parents at the end of judgment periods. But this text is not applicable to youngsters.

In view of the eternalness of the destruction of those slain by Jehovah at Armageddon, some will ask about those who may not personally hear the message, especially in some lands that prohibit the witness work. In addition to family responsibility the Bible shows a communal or community responsibility, where a community upholds or goes along with rulers that persecute Jehovah’s people or are otherwise wicked. Did not the Egyptians suffer plagues because of Pharaoh’s hardness?

The people must accept responsibility for the nation’s acts. If the government becomes too oppressive against them they oust it, by either ballots or bullets. But wickedness against God they placidly tolerate. To them personal convenience and liberty are more precious than godliness. They revolt from harsh rulers, but support godless ones. They lack the burning love for righteousness and the devouring hate for wickedness that would consume the corruption and immorality now rampant in all human governments. Rulers and ruled wallow in the trough of an international moral breakdown. (2 Tim. 3:1-5) Nations operate according to the principle of community responsibility. Rulers may start wars, but the people fight them. It is upon the people generally, young and old, male and female, that the enemy nation rains destruction, and not upon the wicked rulers. The nations in their wars sow death on the basis of community responsibility. Will it not be just for them to reap it on the same basis at Armageddon? Can they rightly complain if they reap as they sow, are judged as they judged, are shown the same mercy they showed? If the people either actively or passively support what is corrupt and immoral and murderous, do they not bear some responsibility therefor?

Today people vote into office politicians known to be corrupt, and thus empower them to capitalize on evil-doing. That the people must bear the responsibility before God is shown not only in Israel’s case above mentioned but by Paul’s counsel to Timothy about appointments in the Christian congregation: “Never lay your hands hastily upon any man; neither be a sharer in the sins of others; preserve yourself pure.” In addition to being warned against hasty appointments, Timothy was told what qualities to require of appointees to service positions. (1 Tim. 3:1-13; 5:22; 2 John 10, 11, NW) Why all this precaution? So that he might avoid being “a sharer in the sins of others”. If he made improper appointments he would become responsible for the sins of such appointees, since he put them in position to commit their sins that hurt the congregation in God’s sight. So the people who either vote wicked rulers into office or allow them to remain in power must accept responsibility for such rulers’ official acts and sins against God and man.

Questions from Readers - Watchtower, January 1st, 1971

    Pages 63 - 64

Can it be stated flatly that only baptized witnesses of Jehovah will survive Armageddon?—A. S., U.S.A.

It would be misleading to answer this question with either a simple “Yes” or a “No.” The Scriptural answer of necessity must be a “qualified” one, and it is easy to see why.

At 1 Corinthians 7:14 the Bible shows that God can consider as “holy” the minor children of a Christian parent. Though they are young and not yet to the point of being personally responsible to Jehovah, their parent is trying to develop in them a love of God and of the way of righteousness. It seems clear that at the time of the destructive war of Armageddon God will preserve them on the basis of the family merit of the Christian parent, even though the children are not yet dedicated and baptized.

The reply must also be “qualified” because the Bible does not pointedly say how God is going to handle certain unusual cases, such as those involving mentally retarded persons who never had the capacity to learn about Jehovah and his purposes. Regarding these unbaptized persons, it is possible that family merit may apply as in the case of minor, irresponsible children who have a faithful believing parent or guardian.

We are aware that many hypothetical or “What if . . .” cases can be raised, cases that seem to involve extenuating circumstances. What point, though, is there in speculating on these? Jesus’ illustration of the “sheep” and “goats” makes it plain that a time will come when the division between the “sheep” and the “goats” will be clear and final. (Matt. 25:31-46) Instead of looking for “loopholes” in God’s arrangement for salvation, what all humans who desire preservation need to do is take full advantage of God’s merciful opportunity to serve him. And they need to do so now, before it becomes too late to begin thinking about becoming a servant of Jehovah. The “sheep” who are preserved into “everlasting life” will be responsible persons who do God’s will as completely as possible. (1 John 2:17) The Bible shows without doubt that Jehovah’s will for humans today includes being baptized and being public witnesses of him.—Rom. 10:10.

  7. Google translation:

The official advice center for sects in our country asks the House for an investigation into the sexual abuse of minors at the witnesses of Jehovah. A number of testimonies have also been reported to the public prosecutor's office. "The victims are worried about sexual offenders who are still active within Jehovah's Witnesses."

The IACSSO sectobservatory, an independent center of the Justice Department, received "various direct and indirect testimonies" last year. They declared that they had undergone sexual violence as a child within the witnesses of Jehovah. IACSSO can not tell you about the number of testimonies, but they seem to confirm that Jehova's witnesses also cover child abuse in Belgium.

The ball came rolling a year ago, after reports to the Dutch foundation Reclaimed Voices. In less than a year, 286 testimonies of sexual abuse were received from Jehovah's Witnesses. Last month the court in the Netherlands did several raids in churches, so-called kingdom halls, and homes of Jehovah's Witnesses.

    Underlying pattern

"When it turned out last year that Belgian victims were present, we started investigating the case," says Kerstine Vanderput, director of IACSSO. The center has now made recommendations to Chamber chairman Siegfried Bracke (N-VA) and various members of the government. The timing is not ideal given the fall of the government, but IACSSO directs on a parliamentary inquiry committee to the Jehovah's Witnesses. The goal: "To gain insight into the underlying pattern of the internal rules, practices and structures and their possible influence on the willingness to report."

Jehovah's Witnesses have been condemning pedophilia as a despicable act for many years in numerous publications, but at the same time it does not systematically inform the competent authorities. She arranges child abuse cases all over the world internally through judicial committees set up by the college of elders, who provide pastoral guidance.

The Belgian Jehovah's Witnesses have received the findings of the IACSSO, but they refute it. "A judicial committee only serves to determine whether such a perpetrator can still be part of the community, but it is not a court of law," says spokesman Louis De Wit. He calls child abuse "detestable". "Victims need to go to justice with their complaint."

This contradicts international reports, as well as testimonials from ex-members in the media. "Going to the police, you do not, unless the perpetrator is an infidel," said a woman, who last year in De Morgen testified about the abuse she had undergone as a child. The world of Jehovah's Witnesses is strongly inward: to avoid contact with people from outside the Church.

    Sexual offenders

Nevertheless, the past year came from the community, which in Belgium says 25,480 members in Belgium, some of them testify at IACSSO. "People came here to testify who were no longer able to drive home because of the emotion", says Vanderput. "They are worried about sexual offenders who are still active within Jehovah's Witnesses."

IACSSO informed the federal prosecutor's office in September, but no complaint has been submitted. As a result, there is no official investigation. According to a judicial source, the public prosecutor is working on it, but it would be a confidential file.

"It is expected that just as with the sexual abuse in the church, other people will now find the courage to formulate a complaint," says Olivier Faelens of the Study and Advisory Group of Sects, who assists sectarian victims.

  8. However, he doesn’t stop there. The concierge then offers to put Cohen’s “Gio” in touch with a lawyer who can help to “silence the boy.”

The last thing Baron Cohen asks for is help securing a date for the night:

“He says, ‘what do you mean, a date?’ I go, you know, like a young man. He says, ‘well, what kind of age?’ I say, lower than Bar Mitzvah but older than eight. And he says, ‘yeah, I can put you in touch with somebody who can get you some boys like that.’”3

The segment bothered Cohen and his production team so much that they turned the footage over to the FBI. However, according to Cohen, the FBI wasn’t interested in pursuing the tip.

    WOW!!!

  9. Finland's Supreme Administrative Court (KHO) ruled that private data gathering door-to-door by Jehovah’s Witnesses is illegal without prior consent.

    Screen Shot 2018-12-20 at 8.09.50 PM.png

The ruling by Finland’s Supreme Administrative Court follows a review of the practice requested from the European Court Justice. In July, the ECJ published its opinion, saying that the practice of Jehovah’s Witnesses collecting personal information as members proselytise door-to-door is illegal, because the organisation is effectively compiling a personal data register, which should comply with data protection regulations.

Finland's KHO has now concurred, saying that the creation of name lists and the taking of notes containing personal information during the group's missionary activities always requires the consent of those whose data is being gathered.

The issue has been under scrutiny since 2013, when a data protection board under the Justice Ministry ruled that the Jehovah’s Witnesses' practice of collecting personal data violated the law. However, that was followed in 2014 by a ruling by the Helsinki Administrative Court that the religious group’s personal register was not illegal.

Following the Supreme Administrative Court's decision to ban the practice, the Interior Ministry's Data Protection Board has now given the Jehovah's Witnesses a six month deadline to ensure that personal information is no longer gathered for the group's own purposes.

  10. Elders have received numerous emails/letters about not listening to news unless its straight from JW.org.

    No big deal right? WRONG

its apparently SO BAD that am Elder in a nearby congregation said HE DIDN'T BELIEVE THE KINGDOM HALL IN WASHINGTON HAD BURNT DOWN because it was only on worldly sources like CNN and not JW.org... seriously.

He said he wont trust it until he sees it on JW.org.
