This article is more than hypocritical, it is deliberately slanderous because they wrote and published this article at a time that they were fully aware of a similar problem within their own ranks. It is, to my mind, an example of hatred in action.

Jehovah's Witnesses covered over the abuse for 6 decades.

In 1993 the GB were fully aware of the magnitude of the abuses inside the organisation, despite that they published this and other articles accusing Catholic hierarchy.

“DURING the past decade, some 400 Roman Catholic priests have been reported to church or civil authorities for sexual abuse of children,” according to U.S.News & World Report. Recently, a national gathering of survivors of such abuse was held near Chicago, Illinois. Many spoke openly of how they had been victimized by pedophile priests.

But NCR (National Catholic Reporter) notes that speakers sounded another theme repeatedly throughout the conference: “The first abuse is sexual; the second and more painful, is psychological.” This second abuse occurs when the church refuses to listen to victims of abuse, fails to take their accusations seriously, and moves only to protect the offending priests. “Fairly or unfairly,” NCR reports, “they portrayed Catholic clergy as belonging to an unhealthy and misguided group more bent on preserving privilege and power than in serving lay needs.” Several speakers made ominous comparisons to the Reformation, which split the church wide open in the 16th century.

According to Richard Sipe, a former priest turned psychotherapist and expert on sexual abuse by Catholic clergy, all this institutional denial reveals “a deep, desperate and knowing personal involvement in the problem.” He added: “The church knows and has known for a long time a great deal about the sexual activity of its priests. It has looked the other way, tolerated, covered up and simply lied about the broad spectrum of sexual activity of its priests.”

Not surprisingly, then, many abuse survivors are suing the church. NCR quotes one attorney who specializes in such cases as saying that there are pedophile-priest cases in each of the church’s 188 dioceses in the United States. He says that out-of-court settlements have run as high as $300,000 per case. U.S.News & World Report says that such suits have already cost the church $400,000,000, a figure that could surge to $1 billion by the year 2000. And the Canadian Press reported recently that some 2,000 survivors of childhood sexual abuse in 22 church-run orphanages and mental institutions in Quebec are suing six religious orders for $1.4 billion in damages.

Interestingly, though, the aforementioned U.S. attorney, who represents 150 victims of pedophile priests in 23 states, says that he has never yet had a client who was eager to go to court. Each one first tried to seek justice “within the pastoral context of the church.” NCR concludes: “Survivors go to the courts, it appears, not as a first resort, but as a last resort."

And I recall the idiot elder who said he always approached newcomers to the Hall with caution because they could be Df'd (how's that for welcoming strangers?)

And arranging groups for field service? Good luck with that. You don't know who's shunning who.

I knew a sister who shunned her dad for some personal offense. Too bad he died of a sudden stroke. Tough luck, sis.

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Jehovah’s Witnesses must obtain consent from people before they take down their personal details during door-to-door preaching in order to comply with EU data privacy rules, Europe’s top court ruled on Tuesday.

The case arose after Finland in 2013 banned Jehovah’s Witnesses from collecting personal data during door-to-door visits.

The U.S.-based Christian denomination, which says it has more than 8 million followers worldwide, challenged the decision, saying that its preaching should be considered a personal religious activity and as such the notes taken down during such visits are also personal.

A Finnish court subsequently asked the Luxembourg-based Court of the Justice of the European Union (ECJ) for advice, which said on Tuesday that such religious activity is not covered by exemptions granted to personal activity.

“A religious community, such as the Jehovah’s Witnesses, is a controller, jointly with its members who engage in preaching, for the processing of personal data carried out by the latter in the context of door-to-door preaching,” judges said.

“The processing of personal data carried out in the context of such activity must respect the rules of EU law on the protection of personal data.”

Under EU data protection rules, a controller determines how and why the personal data is processed.

Jehovah’s Witnesses differ from mainstream Christianity in a number of their beliefs, including rejecting the doctrine of the Trinity and opposing blood transfusions and military conscription.

Bent u er van op de hoogte dat volgens interne instructies (zie de brief van 1 september 2017 aan alle ouderlingen) informatie over Jehova’s getuigen die van seksueel kindermisbruik beschuldigd zijn (vastgesteld of niet) in een envelop moet worden gedaan met daarop de naam van de persoon en de vermelding ‘niet vernietigen’? Bent u er tevens van op de hoogte dat deze envelop in een vertrouwelijk archief bewaard moet blijven en dat deze informatie ook van personen wordt bijgehouden die geëxcommuniceerd zijn? Zo ja, in hoeverre is hier sprake van het verwerken van persoonsgegevens betreffende strafrechtelijke veroordelingen en strafbare feiten zoals bedoeld in artikel 10 van de AVG? Is het voor Jehova’sGetuigen toegestaan deze gegevens te verwerken? Zo nee, wat gaat u hieraan doen?

A couple of members of Dutch parliament have asked the government some formal questions regarding JW and abuse, with a small sidestep to GDPR.

1 - Is it true that at least 5 victims of sexual violence within the JW community have made statements [or criminal complaints] to the police? If not, what isn't true about it? Do you have a current overview of the number of statements to the police?

2 - Do these statements offer any starting points for further investigation regarding the JW community? If so, in what phase is this investigation? If not, why not?

3 - Do you recognize that victims who have made statements to the police or consider doing so experience a lack of knowledge with the police about the organizational structure of the JW? If so, what will you do to make sure the police increases their knowledge? For example, do you think it would be good if victim statements to the police were combined? If not, why not?

4 - Are statements made by victims of sexual violence within JW to police in different regions collected in a national register? If not, why not?

5 - What will you do to ensure statements made to the police are handled accurately, with proper knowledge of the specific context, in a way that does justice to the possible larger issue than is shown by individual statements?

6 - Have you noticed any signals that JW invoke the right of non-disclosure [i.e clergy-penitent or lawyer-client]? If so, are you prepared to investigate which role the right of non-disclosure will play when the law on mandatory reporting is change to be more strict? Does the clergy-penitent privilege have such a reach that a complete religious institution can invoke this right?

7 - Are you aware that according to internal instructions (see BOE letter September 1st 2017) information about JW who are accused of child sexual abuse (confirmed or not) must be stored in an envelope on which the name of the person and the remark 'do not destroy' are written? Are you aware that this envelope must be stored in a confidential archive, and that this information is kept for persons who were excommunicated? If so, to what extent does this constitute the processing of personal data regarding criminal convictions and illegal acts as mentioned in article 10 of GDPR? Are JW allowed to process these data? If not, what actions will you take?

This in response to a discussion representatives of CDA, GL, SP en PvdA [political parties in the Dutch House of Representative] had with representatives of foundation Reclaimed Voice that represents victims of sexual abuse withing the JW organisation.

The government now has 3 weeks to come with a formal reply, which will likely be discussed in the House of Representatives or one of its committees.
