They started out with a $3,500 carry-over but by the end of the day they were short $25,000. The speaker eloquently beseeched the audience to go the ATM machines and give their generous contribution or at least their widow's mite. After the sessions were over, our friend who attended walked from one end of the assembly hall and then to the other end and noticed long lines up to both machines with people who couldn't wait to run up their credit cards. Later in the car, even his hard-core JW wife mentioned that she wondered how it cost that much for a one-day assembly in a building that was fully paid for.

Remember a few years ago Watchtower literally 'siezed' all individual congregation bank savings around the world above what was needed to cover basic kingdom hall monthly expenses?
A new March 30, 2017, BOE letter has just gone out to congregations in Spain, which, more or less, explains that congregations bank account funds no longer entitle congregations to reduced banking fees. (See copy of actual paragraph below.)
The letter asks "What is the cause?" Note that the very next sentence does not actually answer the question but rather makes a general comment on what the reader already knows about the world of finance. It says "As you know, sitnificant changes have taken place in the overall financial situation." It does not explain what these changes are. It could be anything. The rest of the letter explains that 1,900 individual congregational bank acoounts, which were drained of funds, no longer qualify for zero or low fees.
As if the JWs in Spain don't have enough problems as it is.

A 24-year old man is accused of having killed his father in Steinkjer Thursday afternoon.
The murder happened in broad daylight in a quiet residential area of Steinkjer. Several people witnessed what took place. His father died shortly after he was beaten with a blunt object.
According to the newspaper the deceased belonged to the Steinkjer congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, where he had been matron (an elder?).
Seems that, so far, only one source mentions JWs....

Perhaps opponents think in this way to hinder the preaching work, but our main tool is the Bible, and we can participate even more diligently in the preaching work (1 Corinthians 15:58, Ephesians 6:17). Although the translation of the New World has helped us for many years to better understand the truth and carry the message of the Kingdom of God to other people, but in the new conditions that have arisen in Russia, we must start using the synodal translation of the Bible again.

Jehovah's Witnesses asked to hide a one-million-euro entrepreneurial hole at a Northern Spain supply firm. The cult appealed to the "peace" of the congregation to pressure the co-owners of the firm and prevent them from reporting the case to ordinary justice.

Although viewing child pornography is not considered to be child sexual abuse, it is still a serious violation of Jehovah’s standards.
