Some of God’s faithful servants have weakened their moral defenses by associating with non-Witness workmates after work hours. Even during work hours, temptations can arise. It was at his workplace that a handsome young man named Joseph realized that his employer’s wife was very attracted to him. Day after day, she tried to seduce him. Eventually, “she grabbed hold of him by his garment and said: ‘Lie down with me!’” But Joseph managed to run away from her. What helped Joseph to keep his spiritual defenses intact? It was his firm resolve not to damage his relationship with God that safeguarded his chastity and integrity. As a result of his resolute stand, he lost his job and was unjustly imprisoned, but Jehovah blessed him. (Gen. 39:1-12; 41:38-43) Whether at work or in a private setting, Christians need to avoid putting themselves in tempting situations with someone other than their marriage mate. w15 1/15 4:8, 9

Am Pfingsttag forderte Petrus die Juden auf: „Bereut, und jeder von euch lasse sich im Namen Jesu Christi zur Vergebung eurer Sünden taufen, und ihr werdet als freie Gabe den heiligen Geist empfangen“ (Apg. 2:22, 23, 37, 38). An diesem Tag kamen etwa 3 000 Personen zu der neuen Nation, dem geistigen Israel, hinzu (Apg. 2:41). Die Apostel predigten eifrig weiter und die neue Nation wurde immer größer (Apg. 6:7). Später wurde auch den Samaritern erfolgreich gepredigt. Viele ließen sich vom Evangeliumsverkündiger Philippus taufen, empfingen jedoch nicht gleich den heiligen Geist. Die leitende Körperschaft in Jerusalem sandte die Apostel Petrus und Johannes zu diesen bekehrten Samaritern. „Dann legten sie ihnen die Hände auf, und von da an empfingen sie heiligen Geist“ (Apg. 8:5, 6, 14-17). Nun waren auch diese Samariter gesalbte Mitglieder des geistigen Israel. w14 15. 11. 5:3, 4

(Acts 2:41) Afterward, the zealous preaching of the apostles continued to bear more fruit. (Acts 6:7) Later, the preaching work was extended to the Samaritans, with good success. Many were baptized by the evangelizer Philip, but they did not immediately receive the holy spirit. The governing body in Jerusalem sent the apostles Peter and John to these Samaritan converts, and “they laid their hands on them, and they began to receive holy spirit.” (Acts 8:5, 6, 14-17) Hence, these Samaritans also became spirit-anointed members of spiritual Israel. w14 11/15 5:3, 4

Die Ratschläge Jehovas sind frei zugänglich. Doch Jehova zwingt niemand, sie zu befolgen. Wir müssen um seinen heiligen Geist bitten, und er wird ihn uns großzügig geben (Luk. 11:10-13). Wichtig ist aber, darauf zu achten, wie wir zuhören (Luk. 8:18). Es wäre zum Beispiel heuchlerisch, Jehova zu bitten, der Neigung zur Unmoral widerstehen zu können, und trotzdem weiter Pornografie oder unmoralische Filme anzusehen. Wir müssen uns dort hinbegeben, wo der Geist Jehovas ist. Wie wir wissen, ist er zum Beispiel bei unseren Zusammenkünften. Viele Diener Jehovas haben eine persönliche Katastrophe vermieden, weil sie in den Zusammenkünften auf Jehova gehört haben. So wurde ihnen bewusst, dass sich in ihrem Herzen Begierden entwickelt hatten, und sie änderten ihre Handlungsweise (Ps. 73:12-17). w14 15. 8. 4:16

Χρειάζεται να επιδιώκουμε να βρισκόμαστε σε μέρη ή καταστάσεις όπου είναι παρόν το πνεύμα του Ιεχωβά. Γνωρίζουμε ότι το πνεύμα του βρίσκεται στις συναθροίσεις. Πολλοί υπηρέτες του Ιεχωβά γλίτωσαν τη συμφορά επειδή άκουσαν τη φωνή του στη διάρκεια των συναθροίσεών μας. Ως αποτέλεσμα, συνειδητοποίησαν ότι αναπτύσσονταν στην καρδιά τους εσφαλμένες επιθυμίες και διόρθωσαν την πορεία τους.—Ψαλμ. 73:12-17. w14 15/8 4:16

Although Jehovah makes his counsel freely available, he does not force anyone to follow it. We need to ask for his holy spirit, and he will give it to us generously. (Luke 11:10-13) It is essential, though, that we ‘pay attention to how we listen.’ (Luke 8:18) For example, it would be hypocritical to ask Jehovah for help to overcome an inclination toward immorality while continuing to look at pornography or watch immoral movies. We actually need to put ourselves in places or circumstances where Jehovah’s spirit is. We know that his spirit is at the congregation meetings. Many servants of Jehovah have avoided disaster by listening to Jehovah during our meetings. As a result, they have become aware of wrong desires developing in their heart and have corrected their ways.—Ps. 73:12-17. w14 8/15 4:16

Auf der ersten Missionsreise des Paulus mit Barnabas war Markus ihr „Gehilfe“. Vielleicht kümmerte er sich um die Verpflegung. Doch als sie in Pamphylien ankamen, ließ Markus seine Gefährten plötzlich im Stich. Sie mussten ohne ihn nordwärts durch ein Gebiet reisen, das wegen Straßenräubern berüchtigt war (Apg. 13:5, 13). Offensichtlich sah Barnabas über Markus’ unbeständiges Verhalten hinweg und ergriff später die Gelegenheit, ihn weiter zu schulen (Apg. 15:37-39). Das half dem jungen Mann, ein reifer Diener Jehovas zu werden. Als Paulus in Rom inhaftiert war, befand sich Markus interessanterweise bei ihm. Der Apostel sprach günstig von Markus und dieser schloss sich den Grüßen an die Christen in Kolossä an (Kol. 4:10). Später wollte Paulus Markus ausdrücklich bei sich haben. Können wir uns vorstellen, wie sich Barnabas darüber gefreut haben muss? (2. Tim. 4:11). w14 15. 6. 4:13
