Yes -  I do see the pattern of the purification and cleansing of the number 40.  It rained 40 days and nights to clean the earth during the flood ... and there are many other examples. ......BUT..... Jesus was perfect - he needed no cleansing or purification. .

Nowhere does it say it is exactly 72 hours.  It would have been more accurate to say 72 hours if God meant exactly 72 hours.  So they could have thrown him onto the sea very late late night of first day  (which fits in with Jewish day which starts at sundown), and shortly after the third night when daylight came - spewed him on dry land.....  did not think this through but just an idea.
Jesus also spoke of the SIGN of Jonah.  A sign is not literal but an indication of something.  So we do not expect literal 3 days and nights but FOCUS on the SIGN..... just as the budding of the first flowers on trees is a sign that spring is arriving.
The focus of all of this is the sign and the fact that Jesus died.  The other additional things are the side events.

This is how I understand it too. Nissan 14 is Passover day (Thursday after Sundown to Friday sundown.....)and Nissan 15 is a sabbath...... and Nissan 15 happened to also fall on the regular Sabbath - so it was a double sabbath.  (what is the chances of that! - amazing!)
Because it was a double Sabbath when no work was to be done the bones of the criminals were broken so they could be taken off the stakes and buried.  Jesus had already perished.

I am sure that if you keep it civil and not just use your post to get at the GB, the librarian will not mind.  We will not mind either.  We like to have new thoughts.

Nope. Nisan 14th, the 1st Day conculded on Friday Evening with Sundown ushering in the Second Day that Jesus was in the Grave. That's why they hurried to bury Jesus.
The time Jesus was dead was a 40 hour period that cover 'parts of three days'.  However, one should be mindful that the Jewish Day began on Sundown, this is in regards to Creation at "And there was evening and there was morning, a first day." (Genesis 1:5)
The Sunset during this time period was around 7:12 pm. It varies back forth over time but is very stable. I'm using a round off time of 7 pm for simplicity sake.
Nisan 14, 33 CE - 1st Day - Thursday at Sundown from 7:00 pm to Friday at Sundown to 7:00 pm   Jesus was put to death at approximately 3:00 pm that Friday afternoon on Nisan 14th. That's 4 hours.

I was going to make a topic on this subject, mainly on the bit I've highlighted in red.
BUT unfortunately I find myself with a warning from @The Librarian for what i don't know ecactly, so I'd better just keep a low profile for a while
I dare not comment on the bit I've put in bold.

I find your comments on this subject to be the most uplifting, and have certainly given me food for thought. Thank you.
I think others are 'digging too deep' and losing the real meaning behind it all, as you have said.

You start your week on a Monday ?  The week has always started on a Sunday and ended on a Saturday.
Saturday was always the Sabbath, even though we do not keep it now.
Or am i just 'old school' ?

My discernment is that Jesus had not need for any purification or any added symbolism regarding his death - the "sign" of Jonah was a "sign" not an exact replication - Jesus was not in a fish for three days.  We do not want the superstition of the Jews who find numerology in almost anything to overwhelm us.  We then lose the purpose of the illustration/sign and meaning of his death.
All the symbolism about the death of Jesus is found in Hebrews. How he replaced the Passover lamb, being High priest of the new covenant; his flesh died and was disposed of by Jehovah (curtain of the Most holy) tore,  and so forth.

That was good to read.  Only, Jesus did not need any purification, cleaning or any things else regarding cleaning.  He did need time to talk with Jehovah to be able to focus on the purpose of his anointing.

I am sure there is a correct answer, but does it really matter? What I have been trying to convey with my quasi-satirical comments is that in my opinion it doesn’t really matter, and when you try to conflate several things that won’t fit, and can’t fit, wanting to make them fit, and seeing that they might fit, and then it would be fitting if they did fit or they fit or not, it’s enough to give you a fit.
….. meanwhile, it’s all a distraction to keep one from and the important things like  justice and truth and righteousness, and fairness and equity in the brotherhood…… And making sure that orphans and the disadvantaged have food in the refrigerator and clothes on their backs,And have sound guidance and a warm place to sleep.
I know too well how easy it is to get distracted by irrelevant things, and lose sight of important things. Been there, done that.

No. Because the night on the third day would not have been completed before dawn of that second day.
If someone dies on Friday afternoon and they are buried that Friday night, then the night of the first day is completed on Saturday. The night of the second day is therefore begun on the next night, Saturday night, and completed on the dawn of that second day which is Sunday morning. The night of the third day, would have been completed, therefore on Monday morning.
This is true even in our current conception of when a day begins, but would have been even clearer with the Jewish conception of when a day began, because their day started with nightfall.
You can begin the start of his judgment then if you wish, but the sign of Jonah was that he was in "Sheol" for three days and three nights. Christians saw no need to take this to any kind of literal count of hours. The very fact that it could apply when Jesus may have been in Sheol for only two nights is good evidence that there was no good reason to try to count the exact hours to make something spiritually significant out of them.

The Bible does not say that Jesus was resurrected at dawn. It says that the women came to the tomb just before or just after dawn, while it was still dark, and found that the stone had already been rolled away. So the resurrection could have taken place at any time during that night. So instead of 12 hours by 7am it could have been as few as 1 or 2 hours, or perhaps 10pm that night, or midnight, or 2am or 4am or 5am. All we know for sure is that it happened BEFORE dawn not "AT dawn" as you claim.
Also, Nisan 16 can be as early in the year as March 22, and as late as April 23. So sunrise/dawn can be as early as 6:04am on April 23 or as late as 6:55am on March 22. Anywhere within In any time zone in the world, that's nearly a full hour's difference. In other words, even if we knew for sure that the women had actually just got there at the time of the resurrection, you would still be guessing if you claim that dawn was at 7:00am when it could have been at 6:00am.
Personally, I think the Bible writers are implying that it was close to dawn, but perhaps at a time during the night when guards would have potentially been sleeping. Later Christian tradition has the guards waking up their centurion and others to tell them the "bad" news, which doesn't mean much on its own, except that it shows no evidence of a 40-hour tradition here or in any early commentary. This, in spite of the fact, that there was a 40-day tradition about the temptation and the ascension. Surely if a 40 hour tradition was going to be of any import to "spiritual discernment" then the Bible would have given specific evidence that it was 40 hours, and not somewhere between about a 29-hour minimum and a 39-hour maximum.
With respect to this time period, the only tradition that we know that the early Christians held onto was the idea that it was like the sign of Jonah which was parts of 3 days and 3 nights. Unfortunately you can't translate 3 days and 3 nights to less than about 60 hours or more than about 72 hours. This is probably why some early Christian traditions start Jesus' death on Wednesday or Thursday (Nisan 13), and some say this is also a potential interpretation reflected in the Bible accounts.

You're Invited to a Sacred Event!
The Memorial of Christ is not the Last Supper that the world continues to celebrate. The Last Supper is the Last Passover Meal that was first established in Egypt. The Jewish Day began at Sunset. Since the Sun sets at various times, the Passover Supper would begin after the Sun disappeared from the Horizon with the darkness just beginning to set in. The Last Passover Meal was Nisan 14th, 33 CE with the abolishment of the Old Mosaic Covenant. Today as Christians, we invite others to simply observe the Memorial of Jesus Christ that was instituted moments later after the Last Supper was concluded and brought to its end.
AS the Last Supper was concluding, Jesus was reclining at the table with the 12 disciples.  While they were eating, he said: “Truly I say to you, one of you will betray me.” (Matthew 26:20-21) Therefore, the event that concluded the Last Passover Meal was the dismissal of an unfaithful apostle. Jesus answered: “It is the one to whom I will give the piece of bread that I dip.” So after dipping the bread, he took it and gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot.  After Judas took the piece of bread, then Satan entered into him. So Jesus said to him: “What you are doing, do it more quickly.” (John 13:26-28) “So after he received the piece of bread, he went out immediately. And it was night.” (John 13:30)
After dismissing the betrayer from the midst of the Faithful Disciples, Jesus instituted a new teaching for His Faithful Followers. Notice, the whole world wasn’t invited, but those who proved to be faithful and trustworthy up to this point. Since the founding of the Christian Congregation on Pentecost 33 CE, Christians have been commemorating the death of Jesus Christ every Nisan 14th. With one simple command, his faithful sheep “Keep doing this in remembrance of me.” (Luke 22:19) Share this Post on your social media and Save a Life.

I guess you only speak one language.... because if you have learnt any other you will know that sounds are different in different languages.  A  J  in some languages are pronounced as "Y" in other.   In my own language (Afrikaans) a J is pronounced the same as a Y   in Albanian....... (where I live now).

If I understand it correctly, there is no error with either form because of the vocalization of the letters by language. Thank you.

The letter w and V is pronounced the same in some languages.  And J and Y is pronounced the same. Different letters are used for the same SOUNDS.
Just as J and Y  is pronounced the same in some languages.   So different languages use different letters for the exact same sound.

Peter, when I saw the other picture you often use, I did not know what to make of it because I saw a "parrot" with his wing like an arm on the JW-sign.
The "parrot" took on a special significance...... lol.  Now I see a new picture and I see you just love all birds. What a relief!
Nehemia Gorden indicates clearly that Jewish scholars never took any time to search  for the true pronunciation of Jehovah's name because Jews do not pronounce it.  So he has done so himself over the past few years.
He has a team of people searching online through all ancient manuscripts. When they find the Name written down with the point system (vowels) included, he goes personally  to look at the original manuscript to ensure the ink is the same etc.
He confirms the Name is Jehovah - actually YEHOVAH..... because the J is a transliteration.
The last time I kept track of him there were much more than a thousand places the vowels and consonants were found together.
