  2. Protesters set Paraguay Congress ablaze, 30 injured in clashes over constitutional reformProtesters in the Paraguayan capital of Asuncion stormed the National Congress building following a day of rallies in anger at the senators’ closed-door vote allowing President Horacio Cartes to run for re-election. Protesters tore down fences surrounding the building and local media reported they stormed the first floor setting fire to papers and chairs. The fire service reported at least thirty people injured in the clashes. The Paraguayan constitution only allows for the country’s presidents to serve a single term. However an agreement between the ruling government and the opposition resulted in the approval of an amendment that would allow Paraguay’s president, Horacio Cartes of the Colorado Party to run for re-election in 2018. It will also allow left-wing former president Fernando Lugo, who held power from 2008 to 2012, to run for office again. World News
