US Air Force test-drops gravity nuclear bomb in Nevada
The US Air Force has conducted the first in a series of tests on a new gravity nuclear bomb.
The test assessed the weapon’s non-nuclear functions and its capability to be dropped by F-16 jet fighters. The bomb, code-named B6112, is planned to replace the current generation of the United States’ nukes. The weapon is planned to enter service in 2020. The nuclear refurbishment plan was first introduced in 2013, but was delayed due to its heavy cost. The nuclear test comes after the US field-tested the largest non-nuclear bomb ever on Afghanistan on Thursday, drawing massive criticisms. US President Donald Trump has vowed to build up the military capability of his country. He has proposed a 54 billion-dollar spending hike for the current year. -
