The State Department is now admitting that it “deliberately” deleted a 2013 exchange between Fox News chief Washington correspondent James Rosen and then spokeswoman Jen Psaki from its website and YouTube channel. Image source: C-SPAN “There was a deliberate request [to delete the exchange]. This wasn’t a technical glitch,” State Department spokesman John Kirby told reporters Wednesday. The stunning admission comes weeks after the State Department was asked about omitting the exchange in which Rosen asked about U.S. nuclear talks with Iran. Psaki told Rosen on May 10 that “there are times where diplomacy needs privacy in order to progress,” and that is why State spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said on December 2, 2013 that there were “no” secret talks going on with the Ayatollah. “Deliberately removing a portion of the video was not and is not in keeping with the State Department’s commitment to transparency and public accountability,” Kirby explained. Rosen asked Kirby in 2013 if it is the State Department’s policy to “lie” in order to achieve certain outcomes when doing so is advantageous to the negotiations. “James, I think there are times where diplomacy needs privacy in order to progress. This is a good example of that,” Psaki replied. In May, Rosen reported that he and others discovered the 2013 video was missing from the State Department’s video archive on the department’s state.gov website and from its official YouTube channel. “Late today, we discovered that the State Department’s video of its December 2, 2013, press briefing, at which I confronted spokesperson Jen Psaki about the false statement made by her predecessor, Victoria Nuland – the one you saw in my story tonight – has itself, with the use of a white flash, been deleted from both the State Department’s official website and from its YouTube channel,” Rosen said on Fox News’ “Special Report.” “In that exchange, Psaki effectively admitted that the administration had lied to me because the diplomacy needed ‘privacy,” Rosen continued. WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A fired Florida police officer was charged Wednesday in the fatal shooting of a legally armed black musician who had apparently thrown his weapon and was running away when the lethal shot was fired, prosecutors and court documents said. Officer Nouman Raja was arrested and charged with attempted murder and manslaughter in the Oct. 18 death of Corey Jones, 31, after a grand jury found the shooting was unjustified, Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg said at a news conference. He had gotten out and called for a tow truck when Raja pulled up in an unmarked van. Raja, who is of South Asian descent, was investigating a string of burglaries in the area and was in civilian clothes. “Despite his experience, his extensive police training, and the direction of a superior officer to wear his tactical vest with police markings on it to clearly identify himself as a police officer, Raja chose to approach Corey Jones’ vehicle in a tactically unsound, unsafe and grossly negligent manner,” according to a probable cause affidavit. Jones was on the phone with roadside assistance when Raja pulled up in an unmarked white van. The verbal exchange between the two men was captured on the call center recording. “At no time during the recording did Raja say he was a police officer. Instead, Raja confrontationally replied by asking the single word ‘really?’ when Jones twice said ‘I’m good’” the affidavit said. Jones and Raja apparently pulled guns on each other. Raja fired six shots, hitting Jones three times. Jones never fired. Raja told responding officers that he saw Jones throw his gun. Jones had a concealed weapons permit and was legally allowed to carry the gun. His family said he carried a gun because he was hauling expensive equipment. Raja, 38, was fired shortly after the shooting. The attempted murder charge came about because he shot Jones twice but did not cause death and attempted to shoot him three additional times, according to the affidavit. If convicted of the charge, he could face up to life in prison. The manslaughter charge carries up to 15 years in prison. Jones’ family said in a statement that relatives were relieved to learn of the arrest. “While we understand that nothing can bring back our son, brother and friend, this arrest sends a message that this conduct will not be tolerated from members of law enforcement,” the statement said. Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) confirmed to ABC News Wednesday that his daughter, Adia Cummings, had been using a car with his congressional license plates to work as a driver for ride-sharing company Lyft. In a statement Wednesday, the Maryland congressman told ABC that Adia, who graduated from Howard University in Washington, D.C., in May, had been working for Lyft part-time to earn some extra cash. “In an effort to earn some extra money to pay her expenses at school, she signed up for a part-time position with one of the ride-sharing companies,” he wrote. “They, in turn, gave her a sticker to apply to the windshield of the car,” Cummings said in a statement.
