  6. A new documentary that releases on Memorial Day will “answer questions and dispel myths” surrounding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery — a resting place for unidentified soldiers who served in World War I, World War II, the Koran War and Vietnam.

The Unknowns,” a documentary produced by Ethan Morse and Neal Schrodetzki — two Army veterans who were both previously stationed at the site — takes viewers behind-the-scenes to see the rigorous training process that soldiers go through to prepare them to serve at the Tomb.

The film also answers key questions and dispels myths that have raged since the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was first opened in 1921.

Watch the trailer for “The Unknowns” below:

Morse told TheBlaze in an email interview this past weekend that the biggest myth surrounding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is that the guards are Marines — something that he said is patently false.

“Only the U.S. Army guards the Unknowns,” he said. “The Army is the oldest branch in the U.S. Military and they take the lead in all joint service ceremonies.”

Another myth, according to Morse, is that Tomb guards don’t swear, drink or watch TV during the years they are stationed at the site. The filmmaker said that this is only true of the training process and not of the actual time serving at the Tomb.

“Most Tomb guards are infantry and they are known for having salty language,” he said. “While on duty, there is no swearing, course joking or laughing. We would never know when around the corner could be a crying person grieving for their fallen hero.”

It is during training, though, that TV and drinking are off limits, with Morse noting that no one in the military is ever permitted to consume alcohol while on duty.

Morse said that he and Schrodetzki set out to make “The Unknowns” because they believe that America’s unidentified heroes “deserve to be remembered to all future generations.”

More specifically, it was after their squad leader, Adam Dickmyer, was killed in Afghanistan on Oct. 28, 2010, the two decided to take action.

“We desired to honor his memory and highlight the training that he poured into us while guarding the Unknowns,” he explained. “In doing so, we wanted to then honor all of the fallen and missing military men and women from World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam.”

In the end, the filmmakers are hoping to inspire audiences to realize that “freedom is not free,” and that the sacrifice of so many soldiers is being “remembered every minute of every day through the decades by the men and women who guard and honor the Unknowns.”

  10. Is American culture experiencing an “end of moral absolutes?” That’s surely a question that reasonable observers will have after exploring a new study that analyses what’s happening with morals and ethics among the U.S. populace.

“Christian morality is being ushered out of American social structures and off the cultural main stage, leaving a vacuum in its place — and the broader culture is attempting to fill the void,” reads a recent report by the Barna Group.

The report reveals an intriguing — and ironic — dynamic: a population that is increasingly concerned about the state of morals and ethics, while also admitting that there is some internal uncertainty for many citizens in determining right from wrong.

    Barna Group

    Barna Group

When it comes to moral truth, just 35 percent of Americans surveyed believe that it is absolute, with 44 percent saying that moral truth is related to circumstances and 21 percent admitting that they had not thought much about it.

But there was a notable difference among practicing Christians, with 59 percent saying that moral truth is absolute, compared to just 22 percent of those individuals who have no faith.

Overall, respondents made their concerns over the nation’s moral standing more than clear, though. In fact, 80 percent of those surveyed expressed concern, with Christians distinguishing themselves as the most concerned (90 percent) when compared to people of other faiths (72 percent) or of those with no faith at all (67 percent).

While there’s sweeping concern over the state of morality, 57 percent of Americans said that awareness of what is right or wrong is “a matter of personal experience,” Barna reported, noting that this proportion grew to 74 percent among Millennials.

And 65 percent of Americans agreed that “every culture must determine what is acceptable morality for its people.” Despite believing that culture does play a role in setting cultural norms, there was also widespread support for biblical ideals.

A majority of Americans surveyed — 59 percent — believe that “the Bible provides us with absolute moral truths which are the same for all people in all situations, without exception.”

  13. When a Hispanic teenager was reportedly berated by protesters who oppose Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, the 16-year-old’s father stepped in to defend the teen, getting into a heated back-and-forth with one of the purportedly boisterous protesters.

“Don’t step up to my son,” he snapped at the man, with the protester hitting back, “Don’t step up to me.”

The frustrated father, who is reportedly also Hispanic, had some choice words for the anti-Trump protesters as well. As he and his son walked away from the confrontation, he yelled back, “Go back to Mexico, fool. You like it so bad? Go back. Why are you here?”

The confrontation, which was captured by Rebel Pundit, reportedly unfolded when one of the anti-Trump protesters started yelling “F**k Trump” at the teen after noticing that he was wearing a baseball cap in support of the Republican candidate.

“You can protest and do it orderly, but don’t be disrespectful,” the dad told Rebel Pundit after the encounter. “They can have their voice but the fact is that doesn’t give you the right to be violent or disrespectful.”

  20. PILESGROVE, N.J. (TheBlaze/AP) — New Jersey authorities say a horse tossed a teenage rodeo performer off its back in front of a crowd of thousands and then trampled him to death on Saturday night.

Nineteen-year-old bareback rider Coy Lutz was trampled at the Cowtown Rodeo in Pilesgrove, about 35 miles southwest of Philadelphia. The Howard, Pennsylvania, resident died shortly afterward at a hospital.

Lutz, a criminal justice major at the University of Tennessee at Martin, had recently completed his freshman year; he played on the school’s rodeo team, according to WCAU-TV.

“Coy was just an outstanding kid who had a real bright future,” University of Tennessee at Martin coach John Luthi said in a statement. “He was a good student and he came from a great family. Even though he was only here for one year, his impact will always be felt here at UT Martin.”

Luthi went on to say that Lutz’s death was hard to process.

“It’s hard to imagine why something like this had to happen but we have faith that God is in control,” Luthi continued.

Cowtown Rodeo owner Grant Harris told NJ.com this was the first time a rodeo participant had died from injuries suffered in the event. He says Lutz’s parents were among the crowd of 2,200 attending the rodeo and they witnessed the accident.

Harris says the horse Lutz was riding tossed him and then stepped on him several times.

Cowtown touts itself as the oldest weekly running rodeo in the U.S. It opened in 1929.
