  11. Donald Trump appeared to misconstrue an apparent joke Billy Joel made on him as a compliment Friday night. Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, tweeted out that he had received word the legendary singer “gave a very kind shoutout” to him at his Madison Square Garden concert. The problem? The “shoutout” Joel gave Trump appeared to be a joke aimed at him. Before Joel played his famous hit “The Entertainer,” he dedicated it to Trump. It was also not the first time Joel has used that particular joke. A quick Google search revealed the performer had made it several times while touring the country throughout the last several months. Trump has some experience fumbling endorsements. In March, Trump suggested that Pete Rose had endorsed him. Rose’s lawyer later released a statement stating the legendary baseball player had not, in fact, issued an endorsement. — Follow the author of this story on Twitter and Facebook: Follow @oliverdarcy Read more stories from TheBlaze Trump Formally Clinches Republican Nomination for President See How Dem Congresswoman Reacts During House Hearing When Witness Offers Her Opinion on Transgender Debate Washingtonian Editor: People Shouldn’t Say ‘Start a Family’ Because It’s Offensive ‘That’s Very Offensive’: Reporter Confronts Trump for Calling Elizabeth Warren ‘Pocahontas’ — He Responds Like You’d Expect Obama Calls for a ‘World Without’ Nuclear Weapons During Historic Hiroshima Visit Source

  16. Police clashed with protesters outside a Donald Trump rally Friday afternoon in San Diego, with officers at times using batons against demonstrators in their efforts to maintain order. Crowds chanted slogans like “f*** Donald Trump” and “dump Trump” in the streets. In one instance, protesters burned a “Make America Great Again” hat. Trump supporters also clashed with protesters, ultimately reaching a boiling point when both sides starting throwing objects at each other. The demonstrations were eventually declared to be unlawful and police worked to put an end to them, arresting those who refused to comply. At least three individuals were arrested and 18 received medical attention, according to the Los Angeles Times.

  21. A vintage World War II-era fighter plane crashed into the Hudson River, between New York and New Jersey, Friday, and one good samaritan immediately leapt into the water to search for the pilot. The exact circumstances of the crash remain unknown, according to New Jersey State Police, but the pilot survived, sustaining only minor injuries. In a statement, the Federal Aviation Administration said it received a notification that a World War II-era P-47 Thunderbolt may have gone down in the river, two miles south of the George Washington Bridge, according to ABC News. The statement said the agency sent search and rescue to the scene. The FAA later added that the aircraft was one of three that departed from Republic Airport on Long Island. The other two planes returned safely to the airport, the FAA said. — Follow the author of this story on Twitter: Follow @tregp Read more stories from TheBlaze Trump Formally Clinches Republican Nomination for President See How Dem Congresswoman Reacts During House Hearing When Witness Offers Her Opinion on Transgender Debate Washingtonian Editor: People Shouldn’t Say ‘Start a Family’ Because It’s Offensive ‘That’s Very Offensive’: Reporter Confronts Trump for Calling Elizabeth Warren ‘Pocahontas’ — He Responds Like You’d Expect Obama Calls for a ‘World Without’ Nuclear Weapons During Historic Hiroshima Visit Source
  22. Sarah Palin slammed President Barack Obama Friday afternoon, telling attendees at a Donald Trump rally that it was a “stupid” decision to visit Hiroshima ahead of Memorial Day Weekend. “Stupid is thinking that it’s OK on Memorial Day Weekend for the Democrat leader to take another U.S. apology lap,” Pain said in a rambling San Diego speech. “This time, this time dissing our vets. With claims of the greatest generation were perhaps perpetuating the evil of World War II.” Obama on Friday paid tribute to the “silent cry” of the 140,000 people killed by the world’s first atomic bomb attack and sought to renew attention in his unfulfilled vision of a world without nuclear weapons, as he became the first sitting U.S. president to visit Hiroshima. He did not, however, apologize for America’s decision to drop the bomb on the Japanese city. Nevertheless, Palin — a Trump surrogate — characterized Obama’s speech as one filled with apologies and lies. “Our commander-in-chief suggesting, actually lying in suggestions, to the world that we were wrong to prove to the world that we would eradicate evil in World War II. That America was wrong to respond to unprovoked, deadly attacks on Pearl Harbor that killed thousands of Americans,” she said. “That our troops were wrong to end the war that we didn’t start.” “No, our president today, overseas suggesting what? That we were to prolong the horrors that our troops, our POWs, our MIAs — and their own civilian, their own civilian rapes and massacres,” Palin continued. “And those death marches! That they were all to just march ahead without us doing anything about it?” “No, stupid is supporting that warped view by supporting today’s candidates who would shine the boots of a president, a party leader, who would show up this week in Hiroshima, instead of Pearl Harbor, to memorialize the Americans who lost their lives in defense of freedom,” she added. Obama is scheduled to host a Memorial Day breakfast at the White House Monday. Later in the day, he is set to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider at Arlington National Cemetery.
