Holocaust survivor and peace activist Hedy Epstein has died at the age of 91. Epstein was born in Germany and left in 1939 on a Kindertransport to England. Her parents died in Auschwitz. She later returned to Germany to work as a research analyst for the prosecution during the Nuremberg trials. She was involved in civil rights and antiwar movements throughout her life. In 2011, she was part of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla and was a passenger on the U.S.-flagged ship, The Audacity of Hope. She was a frequent guest on Democracy Now! She first appeared on the program in 2009, as she and other activists were planning for the Gaza Freedom March.
Three years later, just days after her 90th birthday, Hedy was arrested in St. Louis during a protest outside Missouri Governor Jay Nixon’s office over the police killing of unarmed African-American teenager Michael Brown. She spoke about her arrest on Democracy Now!

The man known as Canada’s “AmBadAssador,” Canadian Ambassador to Ireland Kevin Vickers, tackled a protester at an event honoring British soldiers in Dublin Thursday, according to CBC.
According to the CBC, Vickers, the former House of Commons sergeant-at-arms who thwarted a gunman’s attack on Parliament in 2014 by shooting him, was in attendance at the ceremony commemorating the British soldiers who died during the 1916 Easter Rising, “also called the Easter Rebellion, when Irish republicans tried to overthrow British control of the country by force.”
When the event was interrupted by a male protester wearing an Easter Rising T-shirt, who began to shout, “This is an insult!” Vickers immediately tackled the man and pulled him away from the ceremony. Police then arrested the protester.

The protester, Brian Murphy, 46, later told The Canadian Press that he holds no grudge against Vickers for the incident and “things are grand.”
“I was making a point, and I knew what the outcome would be — that I’d be taken away,” Murphy said.
Asked if Vickers would face disciplinary action over the incident, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he wasn’t aware of the details and would consider the matter “if it lands on my table.”

During his Thursday appearance at the University of California-Santa Barbara, Milo Yiannopoulos was questioned by a “psychology of gender” professor how he would challenge students’ “thinking around gender” — and he provided a quick answer.
“The assignment I would give them is: Debunk the five most heinous feminist myths,” he said. “The majority of what is taught in gender studies courses and women’s studies sources is awful rot.”
Yiannopoulos said some students would likely be “horrified” by the “mere suggestion of the assignment” because the movement has been conditioned not to question the information.
Yiannopoulos’ exchange with the professor came after the conservative journalist was literally carried into the room on a golden throne as “America, F*** Yeah” blared.

When 18-year-old Cole Dotson was driving by Continental (Ohio) High School on Sunday, he noticed the American flag in front of his school had slipped down the pole and fallen to the ground.
So Dotson — who’s also class president — exited his car and called his grandmother for help.
You see, Dotson knew from his days as a Boy Scout that the Stars and Stripes should never touch the ground — so he walked over and picked up the flag.
He also knew his grandmother, who works at one of the schools in the area, was his best bet in finding someone to come over to the school to take care of the flag while he remained there holding it, WJW-TV reported.
Dotson’s mother, Rhonda Ordway Pester, posted a photo to her Facebook page of her son holding the flag:
Her post as of Friday morning had been shared nearly 60,000 times, and Cole was among those who shared it — although he offered a unique take on it all: “Thank you all for the support! I didn’t intend to get recognized for what I did. But I am sure glad to see the support and respect for the flag. I love this flag and this country. God bless America.”
Joel Mengerink, superintendent of Continental schools, told CNN Dotson’s actions were nothing unusual for him.
“Something like this wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for Cole,” Mengerink told the network, adding Dotson is slated to speak at graduation Sunday. ”He takes great pride in our country, and he knows how to show proper respect to the flag.”
And what will Dotson be doing after he receives his diploma?
Mengerink told CNN that Dotson met with Marine Corps reps this week about joining, and Dotson posted on his Facebook page Thursday that he “got some good news. My ship date to go to boot camp has been bumped up to June 6th — super pumped.”

America is an overwhelmingly faithful county, with the vast majority of citizens embracing the existence of a higher power — and it’s no secret that religious perspectives hold monumental sway over what adherents believe about a variety of social and political issues.
But a recent Gallup analysis of data collected from 2001-2016 shows that the faithful are anything but homogeneous in their perspectives, with stark differences emerging between Jews, Catholics, Protestants, Mormons and those with no affiliated religion on an array of issues.
Take, for instance, the ever-contentious issue of abortion. While 76 percent of American Jews believe that the procedure is “morally acceptable,” only 18 percent of Mormons, 38 percent of Catholics and 33 percent of Protestants agree. The Jewish population is actually closest to those with no religion (73 percent) when it comes to the morality of the abortion procedure.
A similar dynamic was observed on the issue of doctor-assisted suicide, with 73 percent of Jews and 77 percent of those with no religion believing that it is morally permissible. Meanwhile, only 47 percent of Catholics, 43 percent of Protestants and 30 percent of Mormons agreed.
Gay and lesbian relations showed a wide disparity as well, with 83 percent of those with no religion and 85 percent of Jewish individuals agreeing that it is morally acceptable. A majority of Catholics (62 percent) also agreed, though just 41 percent of Protestants and 28 percent of Mormons embraced such a notion.
But while there was a great deal of disagreement over morality in America between various religious adherents, there was also a great deal of majority agreement on issues like divorce and the death penalty, as well as a majority disagreement with issues like suicide and polygamy.
Majorities of those with no religion (62 percent), Jews (54 percent), Catholics (61 percent), Protestants (66 percent) and Mormons (79 percent) said that the death penalty is morally acceptable.
Meanwhile, only 12 percent of Catholics, 11 percent of Protestants and 8 percent of Mormons said that suicide is morally permissible. Those proportions were starkly different from the the 36 percent of those with no religion and the 38 percent of Jews who said the same, though those proportions, while higher, also constituted the minority perspective on the issue.
It should be noted that the proportions for each religious group were the average of opinion collected by Gallup between 2001 and 2016; during that timeframe, there were some widespread shifts in Americans’ moral views.
“On most of these moral issues, Americans’ views have shifted in a more liberal direction over the last 15 years, with the greatest change in views of the morality of gay-lesbian relations, premarital sex and having a baby outside of marriage,” reads Gallup’s analysis. “As a result, the 2001-2016 estimates show a slightly lower percentage believing certain issues are morally acceptable than is the case today.”

When I saw Jocko Willink enter the building, I felt a sense of dread like I’ve never experienced before.
Willink, a legendary Navy SEAL commander and black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, isn’t just an physically intimidating specimen at 230 pounds, he’s also “probably the dangerous dude” in all of San Diego, according to well-known submission wrestler Jeff Glover.
And I challenged him to a grappling match.
Am I suicidal, you ask. No. Stupid? Maybe a little. But my true motivation behind the challenge was two-fold.
Firstly, I wanted to honor our service members and show in vivid detail just how elite they really are. They train tirelessly for combat throughout their careers and then carry that grit and determination into their post-military lives. Willink told me he’s been training BJJ for over 20 years. Though every service member I’ve ever met has been too humble to say it, they are just on a different level than the rest of us.
Secondly, I wanted to entertain TheBlaze’s audience and introduce as many people as possible to Willink, who hosts the highly popular and motivational “Jocko Podcast.”
The outcome of the grappling match was decisive. Predictably, Willink manhandled me as if I were a small child.
But I can say that went several rounds with the highly-trained Navy SEAL and never gave up — until he choked me unconscious, that is. Watch the beatdown below:
After the “match,” Willink told me that his size and strength had little to do with his ability to dominate me on the mat.
“Honestly, it’s just because I’ve been training for a long time,” he said. “It’s something that anybody could get. It’s not because I’m special, it’s just because I’ve trained for a long time doing this. And if the roles were reversed, and he’d been training longer than me, he would be doing that right there to me.”
Willink then offered to have a “135-pounder” to prove his point to me — an offer which I declined.
Get more information on the “Jocko Podcast” here and his book “Extreme Ownership” here.
