  5. “Guess what, we’re gonna do the National Anthem, OK,” Donald Trump told the raucous crowd.

Speaking at a rally in Anaheim, California, Wednesday, Trump said he was informed that there was not enough time for the National Anthem to be performed — something that usually occurs before the presumptive Republican nominee takes the stage — “because of the television cameras.”

“I got here, and they all said, ‘We have a great crowd. We don’t have time for the National Anthem,’” Trump recalled. “I said, ‘Yes we do — we have time for the National Anthem, right?’”

The billionaire businessman then introduced a woman, identified as Sherry Wilkins, who was at the rally and apparently slated to perform the National Anthem but was cut due to time constraints.

After Wilkins completed the song, Trump thanked the singer, telling her she had a “great voice.” At that, the New York real estate developer continued with the rest of his speech, going to great measures to prove to the crowd that he has great support among women.

“I’m telling you women do like me, I’m telling you,” Trump told the cheering crowd as he welcomed a group of women who support his campaign onto the stage.

When the group joined Trump on stage, one woman said into the microphone, “Thank you, God, for sending us Donald J. Trump to be our next president of the United States of America.”

  8. COLUMBIA, S.C. (TheBlaze/AP) — South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has signed legislation outlawing most abortions at 20 weeks beyond fertilization.

The law took effect Wednesday with the Republican governor’s signature. The only exceptions are if the mother’s life is in jeopardy or a doctor determines the fetus can’t survive outside the womb.

    AP

    AP

These bans are now in effect in 13 states and blocked by court challenges in three other. South Dakota’s ban takes effect July 1.

Under the U.S. Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling establishing a nationwide right to abortion, states were permitted to restrict abortions after viability. But the ruling offered no legal definition for viability, saying it could range between 24 and 28 weeks into a pregnancy. The high court has yet to rule on the 20-week bans.

South Carolina state Rep. Wendy Nanney, who sponsored the bill, told WIS-TV she hopes this is the first step in “get[ting] rid of abortion altogether.”

“I firmly believe life begins at conception and anything we can do to protect human life I’m all for,” the Greenville Republican said.

The bill only affects hospitals, since the state’s three abortion clinics already do not perform the procedures beyond 15 weeks. A doctor at a hospital in South Carolina who does perform an abortion could face up to three years in prison and a $10,000 fine, according to WIS-TV.

The South Carolina House approve the bill 79-29. The Senate passed it 36-9.

  9. It’s been more than five years since a Florida jury cleared Casey Anthony of the murder of her daughter Caylee. But new allegations have emerged after a private investigator claimed Anthony’s attorney admitted that his client killed 2-year-old Caylee and hid her body.

The accusation from Dominic Casey was recorded in court documents made public last month in Anthony’s bankruptcy case, according to Fox News. He also alleged that the mother paid her lawyer in sexual favors.

Casey claimed Anthony’s attorney, Jose Baez, hired him onto the case days after the mom was arrested in July 2008.

“Baez had told me that Casey had murdered Caylee and dumped the body somewhere, and he needed all the help he could get to find the body before anyone else did,” Casey said.

Meter reader Roy Kronk discovered Caylee’s body in the woods near her grandparents’ home December of that year. Casey claimed that before the girl’s remains were discovered, Anthony gave her legal team permission to try to frame Kronk “to portray him as a murderer and or kidnapper of Caylee Anthony.”

The investigator said he left the legal team in October 2008.

Casey alleged that Anthony and her attorney were having sex because she couldn’t pay him:

I arrived at Baez’s office unexpectedly one day and once again, witnessed a naked Casey. This time she ran from his private office, through the conference room to the hallway. That night I told her that she cannot allow him to continue engaging in this behavior. Casey told me she had to do what Jose said because she had no money for her defense.

Anthony was convicted of lying to police but was acquitted of murder in 2011. She filed for bankruptcy in 2013.

  15. Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton’s campaign sought to curb any fallout Wednesday after the inspector general’s office at the State Department announced its finding that her use of a private email server during her tenure as secretary of state violated agency regulations.

Brian Fallon, Clinton’s press secretary, continued to contend that Clinton’s personal email server was not unique in any way since other secretaries of state and department officials have also engaged in the practice.

“The report shows that problems with the State Department’s electronic record keeping systems were longstanding and that there was no precedent of someone in her position having a State Department email account until after the arrival of her successor,” Fallon said in a statement.

Fallon also slammed Clinton’s “political opponents” for making sure to “misrepresent this report for their own partisan purposes.”

“Contrary to the false theories advanced for some time now, the report notes that her use of personal email was known to officials within the Department during her tenure, and that there is no evidence of any successful breach of the Secretary’s server,” he said. “We agree that steps ought to be taken to ensure the government can better maintain official records, and if she were still at the State Department, Secretary Clinton would embrace and implement any recommendations, including those in this report, to help do that.”

“But as this report makes clear, Hillary Clinton’s use of personal email was not unique, and she took steps that went much further than others to appropriately preserve and release her records,” Fallon added.

Yet according to the report, even though others before her in the State Department used personal accounts, that doesn’t mean Clinton didn’t violate the rules. Also, she neglected to turn over all of her relevant emails before she vacated the office — as implicitly stipulated. The report went on to state that Clinton had an “obligation to discuss using her personal email account,” which she did not do.

“Secretary Clinton should have preserved any Federal records she created and received on her personal account by printing and filing those records with the related files in the Office of the Secretary,” the report said. “At a minimum, Secretary Clinton should have surrendered all emails dealing with Department business before leaving government service and, because she did not do so, she did not comply with the Department’s policies that were implemented in accordance with the Federal Records Act.”

The report also asserted that Clinton did not ask permission to use a private email server from her New York home, and if she had done so, the request would have been denied due to the security risks it presented — despite the fact that previous agency officials had used personal accounts.

As the Associated Press noted, the report concluded that while former Secretary of State Colin Powell also used a private email account, it did not note that any other former secretaries had done so as well.

“By Secretary Clinton’s tenure, the department’s guidance was considerably more detailed and more sophisticated,” the report said. “Secretary Clinton’s cybersecurity practices accordingly must be evaluated in light of these more comprehensive directives.”

While Clinton has sought to portray the controversial use of her own email server as a minute issue, she did issue an apology in September.

“Yes, I should have used two email addresses, one for personal matters and one for my work at the State Department. Not doing so was a mistake,” Clinton said then in a lengthy Facebook post. “I’m sorry about it, and I take full responsibility.”

Clinton also stressed at the time that her use of the personal server was “allowed under the State Department’s rules.”
