  12. Supporters of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump launched a dating site for fans of the Manhattan mogul.

David Goss, co-founder of TrumpSingles.com, told MarketWatch that he and his business partner, Tim Burks, decided to launch the site because “supporters of Trump get a lot of flack.”

NEW YORK, NY - MAY 03: Republican presidential front runner Donald Trump speaks to supporters and the media at Trump Tower in Manhattan following his victory in the Indiana primary on May 03, 2016 in New York, New York. “There’s so much hatred against us,” Goss said. “There are those who absolutely despise people who support Trump. He’s a businessman, but people don’t look at that. They say, ‘You’re a racist or xenophobe,’ or, ‘You want to see America burn down to the ground.’ It’s the same with Bernie Sanders. Some people say, ‘He just wants to give out free s**t to everybody.’”

Goss said that relationships can go “awry” when couples don’t see eye-to-eye politically.

“I heard a story of a girl on a date who said she supported Trump and the guy got up and walked out, leaving her with the bill,” Goss said.

So far, TrumpSingles.com has a mere 34 members.

“It’s still extremely small,” Goss said. “We started a Twitter account and Facebook page and started to do some marketing. We have two apps that are coming out later this week, and we’re waiting for a full push of marketing until that comes out. Once we make the big push, everyone will know what’s going on.”

“We have to get people to be more comfortable being on the site,” Goss added. “Some people told me that they want to support me and will do everything they can, but they don’t want their face on something that is Trump-related. It’s not that people don’t like him. They are afraid of how they will be perceived for supporting him.”

A similar site for supporters of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (Vt.) launched earlier this year, and the rival websites have sparred on Twitter.

An alternative website — Maple Match — was launched earlier this month in an effort to connect eligible Canadians with people who wish to leave the country should Trump be elected. Both Maple Match and TrumpSingles promise to “make dating great again.”

  13. Federal prosecutors announced Tuesday they plan to pursue a death sentence for Dylann Roof, the 22-year-old man accused of shooting nine Charleston, South Carolina, churchgoers last year.

“Following the department’s rigorous review process to thoroughly consider all relevant factual and legal issues, I have determined that the Justice Department will seek the death penalty,” Attorney General Loretta Lynch announced in a statement.

Lynch clarified that her decision was compelled by the “nature of the alleged crime and the resulting harm.”

State prosecutors said last year they planned to seek the death penalty against Roof, who was indicted on federal hate crime charges in September. However, until Tuesday, the Justice Department had not announced a decision on whether it would pursue the death penalty, forcing the trial to be delayed several times.

An attorney said the alleged gunman would plead guilty to federal hate crime charges, but added he could not advise Roof until the Justice Department made a decision regarding the death penalty.

  15. National Public Radio is pushing back on allegations of media bias after taking a donation from an anti-nuclear proliferation group and reportedly refusing to interview one of Congress’ top critics of the Iran deal championed by the Obama administration.

The publicly funded, nonprofit radio and media organization often takes donations to bankroll its journalism, but a spokeswoman told TheBlaze today that a $100,000 donation from The Ploughshares Fund had no influence on NPR’s coverage.

“Ploughshares cannot in any way influence how we cover stories or who we interview,” NPR spokeswoman Isabel Lara said. “As with all support NPR receives, we have a rigorous editorial firewall process in place to ensure our coverage is independent and is not influenced by funders or special interests.”

But a bumped interview with Kansas Rep. Mike Pompeo last fall is giving critics grounds to disagree.

The Republican had been booked to discuss the Iran deal in August 2015, Lara said, but the interview “did not take place, as often happens in news organizations interviews and schedules get shuffled around.”

When first asked about the interview by the Associated Press, NPR reportedly said it had “no record” of Pompeo’s interview requests.

But Pompeo’s office quickly produced emails that show a communications staffer repeatedly contacting NPR to try to set up an interview, and an NPR producer shutting those requests down.

Email provided by Rep. Mike Pompeo’s office

Today, Lara argued that NPR had been mistaken about Pompeo’s requests and quickly corrected the record.

“We updated the response we gave to the AP as soon as we learned there was, in fact, a record of Rep. Pompeo being contacted,” she said.

The question of NPR’s independence was raised recently after a New York Times profile quoted President Barack Obama adviser Ben Rhodes as saying that “outside groups like Ploughshares” helped the White House create an “echo chamber” of favorable coverage on the Iran deal.

Pompeo argues that that “echo chamber” suppressed voices like his in media’s coverage of the deal.

“Recent statements and financial documents raise serious concerns about the integrity of the Ploughshares Fund, NPR, which is partly tax-payer funded, and the entire nuclear deal debate.” – Rep. Mike Pompeo
    Share:

In a statement, Pompeo added: “Unfortunately, instead of coming clean, groups like NPR continue to distort facts. For example, NPR told the AP that it had ‘no record’ of my multiple interview requests, though it had actually cancelled on me, as it now admits. This comes on top of refusing or ignoring my multiple requests to be on their programs.”

The American people should look into the “questionable relationship” between the global security foundation, the White House and organizations like NPR, the lawmaker said.

However, NPR’s spokeswoman suggested today that the outlet included plenty of voices that opposed the Iran deal in its coverage, including many that are arguably higher-profile than Pompeo’s.

“That week, NPR interviewed other members of Congress with diverse views on the deal. In the past year, other prominent Republican officials have appeared on our newsmagazines to discuss the Iran deal or were the focus of related stories about economic sanctions, including Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla.; Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.; Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H.; Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis.; Rep. Peter Roskam, R-Ill.; and Rep. Pet Sessions, R-Texas, among others,” Lara said.

Future bookings of Pompeo will be decided by NPR’s newsroom, Lara said, but she pointed out that he was interviewed last October about the Benghazi Committee’s work, as well as in April about Paul Ryan.

  16. CNN host Jake Tapper delivered a scathing monologue Tuesday afternoon aimed at presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump for floating a decades-old conspiracy theory about the death of a Clinton White House aide.

“Once again, journalists are in the unhappy predicament of trying to decide whether and how to cover false allegations raised by a candidate for president of the United States,” Tapper said at the outset of his two-minute monologue.

Trump told The Washington Post in an interview published Monday that the suicide of Vincent Foster was a “very serious” issue and appeared “very fishy.”

Tapper noted that investigations by Park Service Police, CNN, Indecent counsels Robert Fiske and Ken Starr and congressional reviews all concluded Foster’s death was a result of suicide.

“So one would think case closed, right? Wrong,” Tapper said. “Donald Trump in an interview appearing in today’s Washington Post called the circumstances surrounded Vince Foster’s death ‘very fishy’ and said, ‘I don’t bring Foster’s death up because I don’t know enough to really discuss it.’”

“This is not a pro-Clinton position. Or an anti-Trump position. It is a pro-truth position.”
    Share:

“Right, of course. Except you just did that, Mr. Trump,” the CNN host continued. “You lent credence to a bizarre and unfounded conspiracy theory. But you’re right, it’s not fair that you did that. Certainly not to Mr. Foster’s widow or their children.”

“To be clear, the notion that this was a murder is a fiction born of delusion and untethered to reality and contractidted by evidence revised in six different investigations,” Tapper added. “One of them by Ken Starr, hardly a Clinton defender. To say otherwise is ridiculous and frankly shameful. Again, this is not a pro-Clinton position. Or an anti-Trump position. It is a pro-truth position.”

This is not the first time Tapper has taken time to debunk a “shameful” Trump claim. Earlier this month, he delivered a similar monologue when the real estate mogul suggested Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-Texas) father was connected to the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
