  7. Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) made the case to impeach IRS Commissioner John Koskinen during a Tuesday hearing before the House Judiciary Committee.

    C-SPAN

    C-SPAN

Before delivering his remarks, Chaffetz played a damaging video recap of the IRS targeting scandal, which explained how officials destroyed hard drives and back-up disks containing ex-IRS official Lois Lerner’s emails.

“This is really a simple case in my mind,” Chaffetz said. “When Congress asks you a question, you’re expected to give a truthful answer. When Congress issues a subpoena, compliance is not optional. Imagine if a taxpayer failed to comply with an IRS summons or subpoena — what would they do to you?”

The GOP lawmaker accused Koskinen of “actively misleading” Congress and failing to prevent evidence in the targeting scandal from being destroyed.

He also said the IRS commissioner failed to look in “five of the six” places Lerner’s emails could have been recovered: “the back up tapes, her Blackberry, the server, the backup server and the loaner laptop.”

Watch his remarks in full below:

  8. “Duck Dynasty” star John Luke Robertson recently appeared on The Church Boys podcast to discuss his views on hunting, why he doesn’t have one of his family’s signature beards, marital lessons he’s learned so far and plenty more.

Robertson, son of Korie and Willie Robertson, made headlines last year when the then-teen married his fiancé, Mary Kate — a wedding that captured a great deal of attention due to the fact that both the bride and groom were under the age of 20.

“We’re young even for [the] south, but everyone is super supportive,” he said. “When I told my dad I was going to propose, his first words were, ‘Well, why did you wait so long?’”

Robertson, author of the new book “Young and Beardless,” said that there are some challenges to getting married at such a young age, though.

    Listen at the 57:30-mark below:

Among the challenges he said are some of the logistics due to the couple’s ages.

“We can’t rent cars of hotels. Being married this young and having to figure all that out, that’s been hard,” Robertson said. “Other than that I think it’s just really opened my eyes to a lot of who I am.”

He then joked about how a friend recently described marriage “like a giant mirror that shares all the worst parts of you” — a description that he found to be true, as couples suddenly have the opportunity to see both their positives and their negatives.

Both he and Mary Kate just wrapped their first year at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia — 16 hours from their home in Louisiana.

As for whether he’ll ever grow a beard, Robertson said that he’s intrigued by the prospect, but that it seems relatively impossibly at the moment.

“I do have interest in growing a beard … my face just isn’t with the program,” he quipped. “Right now … I can get a little something, but it’s just kind of scraggly … I wouldn’t even call it a beard.”

Robertson also revealed that he’s not a huge hunting fan — something that might surprise some “Duck Dynasty” fans, considering his family’s love of the sport.

“I’m not the biggest [hunting fan],” he said, saying that he can shoot and likes being outdoors, but “wouldn’t say hunting is like my thing.”

In the end, he said that he’s hoping his new book, “Young and Beardless,” inspires young people to achieve their dreams.

“Young people have a lot of really big God-driven dreams to change the world, but we get so caught up in you know what if it goes wrong … ‘when I have more money’ or ‘when I get married,’” he said, hoping to help his peers look beyond those barriers.

  12. Antonio Smith, an inmate incarcerated with convicted murderer Drew Peterson, testified Monday that Peterson admitted to him that he killed his fourth wife, according to the Chicago Tribune.

During his testimony in Peterson’s murder-for-hire trial, Smith also said that Peterson, a former police officer, asked him to hire someone kill James Glasgow, the state’s attorney who successfully prosecuted Peterson for his third wife’s murder.

“He said he needed me to have someone kill James Glasgow,” Smith testified, according to the Tribune.

The 2007 disappearance of Stacy Peterson, Drew Peterson’s 23-year-old fourth wife, prompted authorities to reopen the investigation into the 2004 death of his third wife, Kathleen Savio. Peterson was convicted for Savio’s murder in 2012. Stacy Peterson was never found.

According to the Tribune, Smith worked with authorities to record his conversations with Peterson, which prosecutors are now using as evidence.

During his testimony, Glasgow said that he views Peterson no differently than any other murderer.

“I’ve convicted 98 murderers. He’s just one,” Glasgow said.

Glasgow said he had to tell his family about Peterson’s alleged scheme to kill him.

“I’ve had many death threats in my job. But I have a wife, and a family, and I had to tell them about this, just because prudence dictates, and they were very upset. My wife was very upset about it,” Glasgow said. “I know that Mr. Peterson previously committed murder, so when the threat is made against me, it’s real.”

Lucas Liefer, Peterson’s attorney, said the recordings “don’t make any sense” and dismissed their content as “prison talk.”

“The state thinks it’s a novel idea that a man in maximum-security prison might not like the man who put him there,” Liefer added.

According to the Tribune, Smith is serving a 40-year sentence for attempted murder, home invasion and robbery.
