  6. Fox News host Megyn Kelly confronted Black Lives Matter activist and former Baltimore mayoral candidate DeRay Mckesson Monday after the Baltimore police officer charged in the Freddie Gray case was acquitted on all charges.

Throughout the nearly 5-minute interview, Mckesson repeatedly implied that Officer Edward Nero and the five other officers involved in the ordeal are guilty, claiming the current system “guarantees officers will not be held accountable for their actions.”

Kelly was quick to interrupt the Black Lives Matter protester, telling him “there are zero facts” to support the charges against Nero.

Throughout the remainder of the interview, the Fox News anchor repeatedly asked Mckesson what Nero did that was wrong. Mckesson never offered a clear answer. Instead, Mckesson continued to insist that the laws need to change in order to more easily prosecute law enforcement officials.

“Don’t you see the danger to the community if we start locking up cops for making a bad judgement call?” Kelly asked Mckesson, who dodged the inquiry.

Kelly continued, “You’re suggesting these cops killed this man, and I’m telling you, while Freddie Gray died in police custody, that has not yet been established. … You’re positing to the audience that these cops did it, and I’m telling the audience that, thus far, the evidence does not support that.”

In the final moments of the discussion, Mckesson continued to tell Kelly that, by pushing him for specifics on Nero’s trial, she was asserting “all of the other cases don’t matter.”

Kelly again told Mckesson he had his facts wrong, then abruptly ended the interview.

  7. A top North Korean official said in an interview Monday that Donald Trump’s suggestion he would meet with the isolated country’s dictator amounted to nothing more than a “useless” gesture for the presidential race.

Speaking to Reuters, North Korea’s ambassador to the United Nations So Se Pyong called the presumptive Republican nominee’s remark “propaganda.”

“It is up to the decision of my Supreme Leader whether he decides to meet or not, but I think his (Trump’s) idea or talk is nonsense,” he said.

“It’s for utilization of the presidential election, that’s all. A kind of a propaganda or advertisement,” the ambassador added. “This is useless, just a gesture for the presidential election.”

Last week, Trump said that he would have “no problem” speaking to dictator Kim Jong Un to discuss the country’s nuclear program. Such a meeting would represent a major shift in U.S. foreign policy.

  10. Donald Trump once again injected a conspiracy theory into the 2016 campaign cycle, saying in an interview published Monday that he found the death of former Clinton White House aide to be “very fishy.”

The presumptive Republican nominee told The Washington Post last week that the suicide of Vincent Foster was a “very serious” issue and appeared dubious.

“He had intimate knowledge of what was going on,” Trump told the newspaper. “He knew everything that was going on and then all of a sudden he committed suicide.”

“I don’t bring [Foster] up because I don’t know enough to really discuss it. I will say there are people who continue to bring it up because they think it was absolutely a murder,” he added. “I don’t do that because I don’t think it’s fair.”

Throughout the campaign, Trump has shown a readiness to float conspiracy theories about his rivals.

When he battled Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), the brash billionaire suggested the Texas senator’s father was connected to the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Trump later, however, said he never believed the accusations, but simply wanted to “let people read it.”

Trump has also fiercely gone after former President Bill Clinton, taking repeated jabs at his sexual misconduct. On Monday he released an Instagram video featuring the voices of women seemingly accusing Clinton of abuse.

  14. The attorney for the family of Freddie Gray alleged on Monday that the Fox News Channel’s “approach to the black community is racist” — and he did so while appearing on the cable news network’s own airwaves.

Murphy made the remark after noting that the Gray family had faith the justice system worked properly and that “Judge Williams made the correct call.” A Baltimore officer was acquitted Monday in charges stemming from the Gray case.

“[Y]our station was ripe with speculation about whether Judge Williams was playing to the audience,” lawyer Billy Murphy told Fox host Greta Van Susteren.

“I don’t know where you get that, Billy,” Van Susteren interjected. “Billy, stop that. I don’t know where you get that.”

“Oh, c’mon, Greta,” Murphy replied. “C’mon.”

Van Susteren said she would be happy to address any criticisms of her show’s coverage, but she seemed to stray away from opting to defend the entire network.

“Let’s talk about my show. If you have a gripe with me, tell me. If you have a gripe with my show, tell me,” she said.

“So if I think the whole network’s approach to the black community is racist and that’s a relevant thing to say during this program, I can’t say it?” Murphy asked.

Van Susteren said that she understood “the way” Murphy was “trying to play this” and reiterated her commitment to defend her show.

“I haven’t stated a problem with your show,” Murphy said.

“OK, good,” Van Susteren responded. “I’m just checking.”

  16. WASHINGTON (AP) — A House committee said Monday that the head of security operations at the Transportation Security Administration has been replaced.

“Kelly Hoggan has been removed from his position as head of security at TSA,” the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform posted on Twitter.

Meanwhile, The Associated Press obtained a memo sent from TSA Administrator Peter Neffenger that does not mention Hoggan but names an acting replacement.

“Darby LaJoye will serve as the Acting Assistant Administrator of the Office of Security Operations,” Neffenger wrote in the memo addressed to TSA senior leaders. “Darby LaJoye is an experienced Federal Security Director with successful leadership tours at two of the nation’s largest airports, Los Angeles International Airport in California and John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.”

The oversight committee said Hoggan received more than $90,000 in bonuses over a period from late 2013 to late 2014.

About a year later, a report from the Homeland Security Inspector General’s office revealed that agency employees failed to find explosives, weapons and other dangerous items in more than 95 percent of covert tests at multiple U.S. airports.

That report and allegations of other mismanagement within TSA have drawn congressional scrutiny and promoted multiple hearings on Capitol Hill.

Hoggan’s ouster also comes amid growing concerns of massive security lines at airports this summer. The long lines have been blamed in part on more travelers during the busy summer travel season and a shortage of screening officers manning checkpoints.

Neffenger has also attributed some security line woes to fewer people than anticipated applying for the government’s PreCheck program, which allows passengers to move through security faster after submitting to a background check.

In recent weeks there have been reports of thousands of people missing flights because of the lengthy wait times. Problems have been reported in Chicago and Neffenger last week was in the city meeting with local officials to discuss the problems.

In his memo Wednesday, Neffenger said, “At Chicago O’Hare International Airport, a new leadership team is now overseeing screening operations.”

He said that and other adjustments, including the LaJoye appointment, “will enable more focused leadership and screening operations at critical airports in the national transportation system.”

The TSA did not say where Hoggan has been reassigned.

  20. Glenn Beck kicked off his Monday radio program with a bold proclamation: Pedophilia is next.

The conservative commentator’s shocking prediction came in response to Hersheypark’s decision to allow its guests and employees to use whichever restroom coincides with their chosen gender identity. Last month, Target announced a similar policy in the name of “inclusivity.”

    JIM WATSON/AFP/Getty Images

    JIM WATSON/AFP/Getty Images

“If you don’t stand up now,” Beck insisted, “ guarantee you, the next stop on this train is pedophilia.”

Beck, who at the start of his show played 2004 audio of Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, then a senator, defending her view on traditional marriage, said the way transgender rights have overtaken mainstream American culture is “not normal,” unlike gay marriage.

Though the radio host said gay marriage was “pushed through” by President Barack Obama’s administration, he said Americans would have excepted it within a few years, regardless, because it “was already on that path.”

But the push for transgender equality, Beck argued, is something entirely different.

“Transgender bathrooms have come out of nowhere, and are being jammed down our throat,” Beck claimed. “I guarantee you — I guarantee you — the next stop on this train is pedophilia. I guarantee it. They will normalize pedophilia.”

Though it is not clear exactly why, in the week’s since Target announced its new transgender rule, as Beck noted, the company’s stock has experienced a decline. Multiple factors, however, may be influencing that downturn.
