  1. Rita Coolidge - Close The Window, Calm The Light 1978

Outside the rain begins and it may never end

So cry no more on the shore

A dream will take us out to sea

    Forever more forever more

    Close your eyes and dream

And you can be with me

'Neath the waves through the caves of hours

    Long forgotten now

    We're all alone

    We're all alone

    Close the window

    Calm the light

    And it will be alright

    No need to bother now

    Let it out

    Let it all begin

    Learn how to pretend

    Once a story's told

It can't help but grow old

    Roses do

    Lovers too

So cast your seasons to the wind

    And hold me dear

    Oh, hold me dear

    Close the window

    Calm the light

    And it will be alright

    No need to bother now

    Let it out

    Let it all begin

    All's forgotten now

    We're all alone oh-oh, we're all alone

    Close the window

    Calm the light

    And it will be alright

    No need to bother now

    Let it out

    Let it all begin

Owe it to the wind, my love

    (Instrumental)

    All forgotten now

    My Love

  2. "All I Need" - Jack Wagner (1984)

Kissing you is not what I had planned

And now I'm not so sure just where I stand

I wasn't looking for true love

But now you're looking at me

You're the only one I can think of

You're the only one I see

All I need is just a little more time

To be sure of what I feel

is it all in my mind

'Cause it seems so hard to believe

    That you're all I need

Yes it's true we've all been hurt before

But it doesn't seem to matter anymore

It may be a chance we're taking

But it always comes to this

If this isn't love we're makin'

Then I don't know what it is

All I need is just a little more time

To be sure of what I feel is it all in my mind

'Cause it seems so hard to believe

All I need is just a little more time

To be sure of what I feel is it all in my mind

'Cause it seems so hard to believe

    That you're all I need

No stars are out tonight but we're shining our own light

And it's never felt so right

'cause girl the way I'm feeling

It's easy to believe that you're all I need

Ahh you're all I need, ooh ahh

All I Need is a 1984 song by American actor and singer Jack Wagner. Wagner became known for his role as Frisco Jones on the soap opera General Hospital prior to recording the song; he has since had roles on other television programs, such as The Bold and the Beautiful and Melrose Place. "All I Need" was written by Glen Ballard, David Pack and Clif Magness and produced by Ballard and Magness. The song proved to be Wagner's only Top 40 hit, peaking at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in early 1985. It remained at the runner-up position for two weeks, behind Madonna's "Like a Virgin". The single did spend two weeks atop Billboard's adult contemporary chart. The ballad is the title-track to Wagner's 1984 debut album. The song is a romantic plea from Wagner to the one he loves: All I need / Is just a little more time / To be sure what I feel.

In 2007, the song was covered by Filipino rock band Shamrock for the Filipino romantic comedy movie My Best Friend's Girlfriend.

In 2009, VH1 ranked "All I Need" No. 71 on its program 100 Greatest One Hit Wonders of the 80s.

  4. Just a quick note to brothers and sisters visiting communist countries...(I assume you have all left Vietnam by now...This one came via another brother who saw it on reddit)

Please don't risk your life by posting such notes on cafe walls.

You could have very easily ended up in jail.

There have got to be better ways.

  5. We’re learning more about the victims of a tragic shooting spree that left four people dead in Penticton on Monday.

John Brittain, 68, has been charged with four counts of murder in the attack, which spanned about an hour and took place at three locations.

Rudi Winter, the first victim, was allegedly shot in the back while pruning a friend’s tree in downtown Penticton, according to his nephew Jeff Schwarz.

“He was a hell of a guy. He had a heart of gold, he couldn’t hurt a fly,” said Schwarz of the 71-year-old grandfather and father of two, who he said had “raised him like a father.”

“There couldn’t have been a kinder soul out there, it’s tragic… He had just a heart like you wouldn’t believe.”

Schwarz said Rudi had emigrated to Canada from Germany in his youth and that he and his wife Renate sold their business in Vancouver and moved to Penticton in the 1980s to operate a motel.

Rudi had since retired and focused his time on helping people out as a handyman, being active in his Jehovah’s Witness congregation and maintaining his garden and grape vines.

“He had a fish pond in the back and that was his passion, feeding them, covering them up, protecting them from raccoons,” he said.

“He had the back yard looking like a European village.”

  6. It simply isn't the case that the Earthly paradise is a lie invented by the JWs. It does seem to be a Bible teaching and is not believed by only the JWs but millions of other Christians in various different Christian denominations and sects. And in the "Watchtower religion" specifically, that doctrine did NOT come from Rutherford but came from Charles Taze Russell, who by the way, was influenced by Adventist preachers George Storrs and Henry Grew. The JWs can actually trace our roots back to the so-called "Second Adventist" movement in the mid-19th century USA which itself came out of the Millerite movement which itself was part of the "Second Great Awakening". Really interesting history if you ever get time to truly discuss.

  7. The Bible’s answer

    easter GIF

The celebration of Easter is not based on the Bible. If you look into its history, though, you will see the true meaning of Easter—it is a tradition based on ancient fertility rites. Consider the following.

Name: The Encyclopædia Britannica says: “The English name Easter is of uncertain origin; the Anglo-Saxon priest Venerable Bede in the 8th century derived it from the Anglo-Saxon spring goddess Eostre.” Others link it to Astarte, the Phoenician fertility goddess who had the Babylonian counterpart Ishtar.

Hares, rabbits: These are symbols of fertility “handed down from the ancient ceremonial and symbolism of European and Middle Eastern pagan spring festivals.”—Encyclopædia Britannica.

Eggs: According to Funk & Wagnalls Standard Dictionary of Folklore, Mythology and Legend, the hunt for Easter eggs, supposedly brought by the Easter rabbit, “is not mere child’s play, but the vestige of a fertility rite.” Some cultures believed that the decorated Easter egg “could magically bring happiness, prosperity, health, and protection.”—Traditional Festivals.

New Easter outfit: “It was considered discourteous and therefore bad luck to greet the Scandinavian goddess of Spring, or Eastre, in anything but fresh garb.”—The Giant Book of Superstitions.

Sunrise services: These have been linked to rites of ancient sun worshippers “performed at the vernal equinox welcoming the sun and its great power to bring new life to all growing things.”—Celebrations—The Complete Book of American Holidays.

The American Book of Days well describes the origin of Easter: “There is no doubt that the Church in its early days adopted the old pagan customs and gave a Christian meaning to them.”

The Bible warns against worshipping God by following traditions or customs that displease him. (Mark 7:6-8) Second Corinthians 6:17 states: “‘Separate yourselves,’ says Jehovah, ‘and quit touching the unclean thing.’” Easter is a pagan holiday that those who want to please God will avoid.

  8. Though there isn't any specific law, Jehovah's witnesses don't celebrate birthday because 2 Timothy 3:16 clearly states that we can use the inspired Word of God as a guiding tool in everything we do. From the two (2) celebrations recorded in the Bible, specifically Gen. 40:20-22 and Mark 6:21-27, we can easily discern that the two celebrants here, Pharaoh and King Herod, were pagans. You can also note that there is no record in the Bible about Christian celebrating birthday. Even Jesus did not command his disciples to celebrate his day of birth but instead he commanded them to observe his memorial death. For me, this is the simplest way to answer the question.
