  1. Thanks for sharing Nicole.

At that point in time there was only Pastor Russell as the "Faithful and Discreet Slave" and the term Governing Body would not apply although I have seen this photo titled that way in other places.

They were simply directors of a corporation. (Some would argue that in practical terms they were a "Governing Body" although ALL spiritual direction came through Pastor Russell at the time.

Read more about the history of the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses here:

@JW Insider might have more details to add to my simple explanation above.

  2. Just for clarification. This was actually Raymond Franz, a former member of the Governing Body, who was credited with the majority of the scholarly work on the above book which was later renamed "Insight on the Scriptures".

He was the nephew of the more prominent and popular Frederick W. Franz who was a a former president of the Watchtower Society.

Diane was born in Wolcott on March 3, 1940. She married Russell on November 1, 1958 and lived in Bristol for the rest of her life. Diane was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and her beliefs taught her to be kind and patient to everyone she met. Her hope was in God’s kingdom that would bring a better world. She was baptized August 15, 1959.

Diane is survived by her husband and many relatives and friends.

A memorial talk will be held on Saturday, June 18 at 3 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 197 Jerome Avenue, Bristol. She had no doctors but when brought to Bristol Hospital they proved to be all the doctors she needed as well as the home care provided was helpful. Russell is grateful to them. Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol is assisting the family. Please visit Diane’s memorial website at www.FUNKFUNERALHOME.com.
