The Librarian reacted to purplehaze in Mormon's "Mountain Meadows Massacre"
I worked with a direct descendent of the Mountain Meadows Massacre. I learned a lot about this tragedy where over 120 men, women, and children lost their lives to Morman treachery. They used the white flag and promise of freedom to lure the people of the wagon train out in the open. Apparently 8 is the age of reason so although younger ones died, most were older. The mormans even took the bloodied clothing from the victims, and 13 young children. The families of these ones had to fight for a year to get them back. As a side note the wagon train led by Baker and Fancher was extremely wealthy. Fine livestock and horses, one of which was worth close to $1 million, money, furniture, goods, etc was taken; it was never returned. These ones on the wagon train were going to California to start a cattle and horse empire with the animals they had with them. Among the direct decendents and others the belief is strong that Brigham Young was the one who instigated the slaughter. But the LDS church denies that and has not apologised for what they did. There is a Mountain Meadows monument where some of the dead have been interred. The LDS and the defendants have worked to have this done, although the defendants had to push hard for these innocent souls to be recognized. The descendents also fought for and received national park status.

The Librarian got a reaction from Baruq JW in Is it time for this forum to close its doors?
I won't speak for the @admin since he is probably not even aware of this "controversy" right now....
BUT....
I just can't imagine Jesus Christ creating JesusChrist.org to publish his words... and then tell everyone that nobody has the legal right to copy his words.
If anything EVERY KING of Israel was to MAKE A COPY of the scrolls.... to what purpose? TO SHARE THEM.
The Watchtower Lawyers are thinking of JW.org as a money making for profit corporation instead of the charity and group of like minded bible students that it should be and was at one time..
When the apostles were angered that others were preaching the gospel of Jesus what did he tell them?
"Round up the Christian Lawyers" ... NO!!!
Advertise, Advertise , Advertise the King and His Kingdom......hmmm......

I am intrigued by the Roman Toga comment there..... any ideas?
Was he considering himself ready to go to heaven and prepared in his white robes for his salvation?
@JW Insider might remember the story of A.H. Macmillan standing on the bridge in his white robes ready to be raptured. I forget the details though.

The Librarian reacted to TrueTomHarley in Hightailing It to the City of Refuge
Maybe we finally have this City of Refuge thing down pat after yesterday's study article. The way the Law had it, the accidental manslayer had to flee to one of the six cities of refuge, where his case would be heard. If the 'avenger of blood' (closest relative of the deceased) killed him before he got there, he was guiltless. He might simply have lost it. Or he might figure there wouldn't have been an accident if the fellow had been more careful or not neglected safety. (aspects of safety on the job were also considered, as in 'What can we learn from this?') BUT some have said that he could not do otherwise. He MUST put the killer to death. It is not his prerogative to overlook or forgive, because principles greater than just a matter between two humans come into play. Still, it is hard to believe that a man, bereaved himself, would HAVE TO put to death someone, maybe a close friend or even a relative, who had accidentally taken a life. How does the following work as a compromise? The killer MUST flee to one of the cities of refuge - that much is clear. Why couldn't the avenger of blood take his sweet time in his 'pursuit' - or even walk there with him, if he was really a close chum? Our minds are skewed by the picture in the Watchtower decades ago of the manslayer running for all he is worth with the avenger hot on his heals. Who is to say it was always (or even usually) like that? The death was an accident. The city of refuge was a place where one might live a normal, productive and rewarding life. It was not a prison. But suppose the manslayer refused to go there, insisting he didn't have to, insisting he was 'guiltless' because he didn't mean to do what he did? THEN he would be put to death, not just for the accidental killing itself, or even primarily, but for the greater crime of thumbing his nose at God, for it is his arrangement. Put to death BY WHO becomes secondary. Maybe the avenger of blood. But if the avenger simply couldn't find it within himself to do it, it is hard to believe there would not be a posse or something to help him out or even take it off his hands. Of course, if the real sin is thumbing one's nose at God, the avenger would probably be incensed over THAT and would possibly 'rise to the occasion' on that count, whereas the death itself he would be willing to forgive. Does it work? -
The Librarian reacted to James Thomas Rook Jr. in How did this car go airborne and fly through a second story window?...
I have calculated that the car needs to go at least 88 miles per hour, and be equipped with a Flux Capacitor, a "Mr. Fusion", matter converter, and get struck by lightening with 1.21 Gigawatts of current.
I relied on the equations of Dr. Emmett Brown, if memory serves. He is famous for the expression "Where we are going .... we don't NEED any roads.".

The Librarian got a reaction from E dub in SOLDIERS BEAT UP JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES IN LUSAKA
Heavily armed Soldiers have beaten up Jehovah’s Witnesses over banned church services.
CHURCH members and leaders of a JehovahÂ’s Witnesses branch n LusakaÂ’s Kamwala area were this morning beaten up by a combined team of military personell after they attempted to gather for a church service.
Last week, the Ministry of Health banned church gatherings and other gatherings in a bid to contain the Cholera situation in the country. While some churches have complied, a few others have opted to go ahead with their worship services.
A branch of the Jehovah’s Witnesses in Kamwala this morning decided to ignore the government directive. A few minutes into the church service, a Land cruiser full of military personell and police officers landed at the church premises and ordered the church leaders to stop the service— according to an eye witnesses.
“When the leaders tried to resist the order, the soldiers just started beating up the leaders. When the members tried to protest, they were also slapped. That’s how everyone scampered in different directions,” said an eye witness.
The church has now been closed.
