The Librarian got a reaction from Evacuated in Marlo Medina-Chevez
Uber driver worked to raise money for family vacation
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A funeral service is planned for Marlo Medina-Chevez, the Charlotte Uber driver who police say was killed over the weekend.
"It hasn't been an easy year for us at all," Deborah Medina, Marlo's daughter, said.
[Body found in Rock Hill ID'd as missing Uber driver, police say]
Medina-Chevez left his Steele Creek house last weekend to work as an Uber driver, and never came home.
    (Medina-Chevez)
Sources said Charlotte-Mecklenburg police found his body, severely beaten and bound, in woods in Rock Hill.
Two strangers, Diontray Adams and James Steven, are now behind bars and will be charged in his death. The pair will also face charges of kidnapping and robbery with a dangerous weapon. They are fighting extradition.

    (James Stevens, Diontray Adams)
"It brings you peace that they are in jail," Medina said. "But I just lost my dad. You can't really come back from that."
His friend Karen Miller is trying to help.
She grew up in Marlo's congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
When her family was going through difficult times, he lifted her spirits. Now she's returning the favor.
"We want to do something for his daughters to make sure they are not too sad too," she said.
Marlo was the family's sole provider. He started driving for Uber to make some extra cash to take his family on a vacation.
Karen has raised more than $19,000 to help them out.
She and her congregation are preparing to say goodbye to their friend, who lived a faith-driven life. And it's faith that's keeping his friends and family going.
"All we have to do is be strong and we know we will see him again," she said.
A funeral is planned for Monday at 3 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 6516 Old Pineville Road.

Why would not autism be counted as a modern day plague?
Depending on your source, (I cite the most extreme for dramatic effect) what was once 1 in 10,000 has become 1 in 29.
You can reduce the numbers on both ends, especially the first, by tricks of semantics....'autism' vs 'autism spectrum,' for example. But the disparity is still astronomical.
Given that autism victims do not die, but instead usually require lifelong care, it is but another 'plague' that will bankrupt society, even apart from its human cost.

I am sure I will not explain this case, but I can bring the light in to the matter of finance. It is more complex then pay the money for a nice hall. Every assembly elders from the area meet to hear a finance report and approve some money spending like theocratic school, pioneer school or transfer the money to Bethel or whenever it's needed. Don't be foolish to spread the hate.

VS recognized lawful elimination Jehovah's Witnesses in the city of Cherkessk

Why is nothing being said specifically about this? Did he even pick up Uber passengers or was he just car-jacked? Has anyone pinged his phone? So many holes in the story. Poor family.

The Librarian reacted to bruceq in Evidence that the "New Testament" contained the Divine Name (YHWH)
    I think that is a good point on theophoric names. Not only does it show God's name in the New Testament since some there have the Divine Name within their name but since Jesus also does shows that he was not named after a "cannanite god" as someone once said. lol. {of course that would mean most of the Bible characters were named after a false god named YHWH. Of course Satan being the ultimate deceiver and angel of light can make good appear bad and vice versa just as other apostates do. So naturally satanist can use YHWH or tetragrammaton just as anyone can. Satan also quoted Scripture and that dosen't mean we should avoid the Bible or that it is Satanic.}
Of course I realize the original pronunciation is not important since "Jesus" was obviously not the original pronunciation of his name but what are you thoughts on the name YHWH originally being three syllables based on the theophoric names?

The Librarian got a reaction from ARchiv@L in What is a "Devout" Jehovah's Witness?
    In a previous post:
I wanted to use the term "older" or "senior" Jehovah's Witnesses to denote the JW's that I grew up with who actually enforced many such "rules" by which many of us were taught.
However it is not JUST the older or the senior JW's who avoid pagan origins... SO... I needed a word ....
    DEVOUT came to mind.
As you can see I am still questioning my word choice. There is a difference between the modern JW's and the "classic" JW's of the 1970's when we were a relatively small group.
Not sure how to refer to these two groups.
How would you title any number of such questions?

Moved once and then removed. Thought they might put it on the Watchtower's real estate site, but it's not there either. I think this whole real estate site gets removed soon,  so it's the last time to play with function that lets you fly all over Brooklyn Heights and look at the 360-degree views.

You can even imagine what that parking lot will look like with a rust-colored translucent glass building on the lot.

At about 4:50 pm, yesterday, WNYC introduced a story with a lead that included something like: 'Next, we'll discuss the purchase of the Watchtower buildings and Jared Kushner.'
At the time it was on the radio, Kushner had not yet been made a part of the FBI story that gained traction to be a bigger part of the political news just a couple hours later.
This story does not reflect negatively on the Watchtower, of course.
But there is no doubt that if this particularly venture fails as one of Kushner's bad deals (he's made other bad deals along with good ones) the Watchtower will continue to be mentioned. (A comedian, John Oliver, spoke of these bad deals while making fun of the Watchtower deal just a couple weeks ago. He used Kushner's quotes about what he wanted to do with the Watchtower buildings, but Oliver never mentioned the "Watchtower" itself.) What makes some people worry about Kushner's deal, is that Kushner buys the Watchtower's multi-block complex down by the Brooklyn Bridge for more than a third of a BILLION dollars. Then he gives the Watchtower Society even MORE, another third of a BILLION, for a single parking lot!
