  1. Some of these pictures are of lava rock, and others are of smokers’ lungs—can you tell us how many of each? Even if you canÂ’t, one thing is for certain.

Cigarette smoking can harm nearly every organ in your body. Wisdom from Above?

Your Body is a “temple” keep it “clean”.

The Bible helps us to have the correct view of the matter when it says: “Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey?” (Romans 6:16)

When an individualÂ’s thinking and actions are dominated by a craving for tobacco, he soon becomes a slave to a degrading practice. However, God, whose name is Jehovah, wants us to be free, not only from practices that harm our body but also from those that corrupt our spirit, that is, our dominant mental inclination. (Psalm 83:18; 2 Corinthians 7:1)

Thus, as a person grows in appreciation and respect for Jehovah, he recognizes that Jehovah deserves his best and that he cannot give God his best while remaining enslaved to a lethal habit. That realization helps to give a person the will to resist hurtful desires.

SMOKING DAMAGES THE BODY “Smoking cigarettes . . . has been scientifically proven to harm nearly every organ in the body and to increase morbidity and mortality,” says The Tobacco Atlas. It is well-known that smoking causes noncommunicable diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and lung ailments. But according to the World Health Organization (WHO), smoking is also a major cause of death from communicable diseases, such as tuberculosis. “You must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind.”—Matthew 22:37

Are you showing love and respect for God if you abuse your God-given body by indulging in a defiling habit?

Through his Word, the Bible, Jehovah God teaches us to have a proper view of our life, our body, and our faculties. His Son, Jesus, pointed to this when he said: “You must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind.” (Matthew 22:37) Clearly, God wants us to make good use of our life and body and to treat them with respect.

As we learn about Jehovah and his promises, we come to love and value all that he has done for us. This motivates us to keep free from anything that defiles our body.

  4. AB 2943 bans books, conferences, counseling advocating Muslim, Jewish, and Christian views on gender and sexual orientation.

The California Assembly approved a bill today 50-18 that tells churches and other with traditional beliefs about gender and sexual orientation that advocating for their views could get them sued. AB 2943, declares “advertising, offering to engage in, or engaging in sexual orientation change efforts with an individual” is illegal under state’s consumer fraud law.

“The State of California has no right to deny its residents the resources to help them find happiness or to shut down counselors, schools, and religious organizations that provide those services,” said Jonathan Keller, in response to today’s Assembly vote. “Every person experiencing unwanted same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria must be allowed to pursue help in achieving their desired goals and outcomes."

New Bill to Ban Christian Books and Resources on God's Design for Sexuality Moving Quickly in Sacramento

An effort by the LGBT caucus to stop Christians from offering resources to adults struggling to overcome unwanted same-sex attraction or gender confusion recently passed through two CA Assembly policy committees. The California Family Council helped coordinate expert committee testimonies that included professional counselors, attorneys, and former homosexuals. (Watch two of our once-gay witnesses, Ken Williams and Elizabeth Wonning, share their view on AB 2943.)

Despite AB 2943's progress through the committee process, there was one good sign last Tuesday, April 10. Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez-Fletcher asked a series of tough questions to the bill author, LGBT Caucus Chair Evan Low, expressing concern with how AB 2943 could ban on church retreats dealing with biblical views homosexuality or transgenderism. (Watchclips of the hearing in the video below. Gonzalez makes her comments starting at the 6:00 min mark)

After receiving an answer from Low's attorney in the Assembly Judiciary Committee, Gonzalez responded, "You actually cause me much concern." Although Gonzalez voted for the bill in committee, she said she wanted to work with the author to explore how this bill might "prohibit a religious institution from practicing their religion...I can't imagine we are trying to step there," she said.

  7. Greetings from Guatemala. I had an awesome experience on a bus. I got permission from the bus driver to show “The Return of the Prodigal Son” (El regreso del hijo prodigo) .. in Spanish, of course.

You see, most long distance buses are equipped with flat-screen TV’s, and many times inappropriate movies are shown during the bus ride.

I remembered a similar experience from Ecuador in the 2010 yearbook, and I decided to put it into practice here in Guatemala.

On this particular bus ride, I observed all the passengers readily watching the video. One lady asked me if it was a Mormon video. I got a chance to witness to her.

If anyone would like to try this method of suggesting JW.org videos on bus rides, I would suggest carrying the DVD’s with you. Since most of us have the videos downloaded on our devices, the DVD’s aren’t used as much anymore.

But we can put them to use on long distance buses in these developing countries. ???? Tuve una experiencia muy amena… obtuvé permiso para ponerlo.@misuni_verzo thank you

WATCH White Gold: Discovering Bhutan's natural treasure

Since the time I first visited Asia about 30 years ago, my dream had been to witness the stunning beauty and culture of the country of Bhutan, known as “the kingdom of the thunder dragon."

    Mack Woodruff
PHOTO:Paro Taktsang, better known as Tiger's Nest, is perhaps the most famous site in all of Bhutan. This cliffside temple is home to many monks, and considered to be a very sacred Buddhist site.more +

To date, I have visited about 120 countries in my life and Bhutan is honestly the most beautiful one I have ever seen. Majestic Buddhist temples are surrounded by rolling green hills and flowing rivers. There are no traffic lights anywhere in the entire country and very few cars, even in its capital of Thimphu.

Bhutan still manages without a single traffic light in the entire country by choice and the busiest intersection of Thimphu is managed by a single traffic cop.more ...

  9. Keep Your Eyes on the Big Issue

“May people know that you, whose name is Jehovah, you alone are the Most High over all the earth.”—PSALM 83:18.

    ???

FOR many people today, money is the big issue. It is what they think about and worry about. They spend their time trying to make more money or keep the money they have. For other people, the most important issue is their family, their health, or the things they want to accomplish in life.

    ???

There is an issue that is much more important than any of these. That issue is the vindication of JehovahÂ’s sovereignty. It is very important that we never stop focusing on this issue. If we are not careful, we could become so busy with our daily lives or so worried about our own problems that we forget how important it is. If we support JehovahÂ’s sovereignty, we will be better able to deal with problems in our daily life, and we will draw closer to Jehovah.

  10. Keep on the Watch! Nations Come and Go! God’s Kingdom is Forever!

(Mark 13:32-37) “Concerning that day or the hour nobody knows, neither the angels in heaven nor the Son, but the Father. 33 Keep looking, keep awake, for you do not know when the appointed time is. 34 It is like a man traveling abroad who left his house and gave the authority to his slaves, to each one his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to keep on the watch. 35 Keep on the watch, therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming, whether late in the day or at midnight or before dawn or early in the morning, 36 in order that when he comes suddenly, he does not find you sleeping. 37 But what I say to you, I say to all: Keep on the watch.”.

  11. Like Money ? Soon it will be Elusive? Let Go and Let Jehovah God take care of You!

    Wise Counsel:

    Manage Your Money Wisely

THE adage “Money is the root of all evil” has often been ascribed to the Bible. What the Bible really says is: “The love of money is the root of all evil.” (1 Timothy 6:10, King James Version) Some people have indeed developed a fondness for money and have devoted themselves to the accumulation of riches. Some have become slaves of money and have reaped tragic consequences. When managed properly, however, money can be a useful tool. The Bible acknowledges that “money solves a lot of problems.”—Ecclesiastes 10:19, Holy Bible—Easy-to-Read Version.

For instance, the world’s preoccupation with prominence, money, entertainment, travel for pleasure, and other material pursuits can influence our thinking. (1 John 2:15-17) Some first-century Christians who pursued riches severely complicated their lives. The apostle Paul explains: “Those who are determined to be rich fall into temptation and a snare and many senseless and hurtful desires, which plunge men into destruction and ruin. For the love of money is a root of all sorts of injurious things, and by reaching out for this love some have been led astray from the faith and have stabbed themselves all over with many pains.”—1 Timothy 6:9, 10.

10 “One who loves money will not get his fill of money; nor whoever loves affluence, of income; this too is nonsense: 11 when there is much good cheer there are many eaters of it, and what result does its owner have except the looking on? 12 The worker’s sleep is sweet whether he eats little or much, but fullness for a rich man does not give him a chance to go to sleep. 13 There is a galling evil I have seen under the sun—riches watched over by their owner to his own harm, 14 and those riches are lost in some bad affair, and he has a son born, and he has nothing in his hands; 15 as he came out of his mother’s body, naked he goes back, going as he came, and does not pick up by his trouble anything that he can take along in his hand. 16 And this too is a galling evil: just the way he came, so he goes, and how much is he better off for putting himself to trouble just for wind? 17* and all his life is spent in darkness and mourning and many annoyances and diseases and exasperations. Here is the way I see it: 18* it is best that one should turn his attention to eating and drinking and seeing good by all his trouble that he takes under the sun in such time for living as God has given him, because that is his portion. 19* Also, when God has given any man riches and substance and the privilege of eating from it and of taking up his portion and of enjoying himself for his trouble, this is God’s gift, 20 for he will not much remember the days he has lived through because God busies him with his heart’s enjoyment.”

    Ecclesiastes 5:10-20.

  13. “THE great day of Jehovah is near. It is near, and there is a hurrying of it very much.” (Zephaniah 1:14)

Is it not worthwhile to examine your life to see whether you are proving yourself ready for that vital day or whether some adjustments are in order? How can you prove that you really are ready?

We have to be alert spiritually and live day by day as ones who are ready. We need the right attitude—and actions to match. Micah said: “As for me, it is for Jehovah that I shall keep on the lookout. I will show a waiting attitude for the God of my salvation.”—Micah 7:7.

I look out in the backyard and see the trees, bushes, and grass flourishing. I don't do a thing at making them grow.  It is amazing the process involving chlorophyll making food for the plants out of carbon dioxide, sunlight and carbon dioxide to make food for the plants. We can be thankful for the Creator's works and how they benefit us.  We are certainly thankful to Jehovah for his creations.

  16. My Lion is from the Tribe of Judah - Where is yours from? .

Few qualities are so admired or so needed in a leader, and no man has ever equaled, much less excelled, Jesus in this regard. In the preceding chapter, we learned how humble and meek Jesus was. He was rightly called “the Lamb.” (John 1:29) JesusÂ’ courage, however, gives rise to a very different description. The Bible says of GodÂ’s Son: “Look! The Lion that is of the tribe of Judah.”—Revelation 5:5.

The lion is often linked to courage. Have you ever stood face-to-face with an adult male lion? If you have, most likely you were safely separated from the beast, perhaps by the fence of his enclosure at a zoo. Still, such an experience can be daunting. As you look into the face of this huge and powerful creature and he gazes steadily back at you, you can hardly imagine the lion ever fleeing in fear from anything. The Bible speaks of “the lion, which is the mightiest among the beasts and which does not turn back from before anyone.” (Proverbs 30:30) Such is the courage of Christ.

Yes, Jesus made clear to the nations what justice is. In many cases, he did so at great personal risk. Jesus’ example helps us to see that upholding true justice requires courage. Fittingly, he was called “the Lion that is of the tribe of Judah.” (Revelation 5:5) Recall that the lion is a symbol of courageous justice. In the near future, though, Jesus will effect even greater justice. In the fullest sense, he will set “justice in the earth.”—Isaiah 42:4.
