HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED? IS CHRISTMAS FOR CHRISTIANS? ~ ?????? If you want to know the truth about Christmas, you need to read this.  Around the world, nearly two billion people celebrate Christmas each December 25, while at least 200 million others celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ on January 7 SHOULD A CHRISTIAN CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS? Christmas is not a bible teaching and true Christians are not to celebrate it.. To prove that let us examine some questions about Christmas.. (1)WAS JESUS BORN ON DECEMBER 25TH? ANSWER -NO The bible does not give a specific date that Jesus was born, but it gave us an insight or a clue that shows  Jesus was not born in December or January.  It simply states: “There were also in that same country shepherds living out of doors and keeping watches in the night over their flocks. And suddenly Jehovah’s angel stood by them, and . . . the angel said to them: ‘. . . There was born to you today a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.’”—Luke 2:8-11. Facts point to Jesus’ birth at approximately the beginning of October when shepherds with their flocks would still spend the night in the fields. The countryside around Bethlehem experiences the coldest weather during the months of December and January. Hence, to keep them warm at night, flocks are kept indoors  into protective shelters. (2)SINCE THERE IS NO EVIDENCE  THAT THE BIRTH  OF JESUS CHRIST OCCURRED ON  DECEMBER  25, WHY IS CHRISTMAS CELEBRATED ON THIS DATE? ANSWER- The Encyclopædia Britannica says that church leaders  chose it “to coincide with the pagan Roman festival marking the ‘birthday of the unconquered sun,’” at the time of the winter solstice. According to The Encyclopedia Americana, many scholars believe that this was done “in order to make Christianity more meaningful to pagan converts.”In summary ,  Christmas has a pagan origin (3)DID THE EARLY CHRISTIANS CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS? ANSWER-NO. There is no historical evidence that the early Christians celebrated the birth of the Christ. But they did memorialize his death. (1 Corinthians 11:23-26) It was not until more than 300 years after Jesus’ birth that Christendom officially began to observe Christmas on December 25. Interestingly, in the mid-17th century, an act of parliament banned Christmas celebrations in England. In the United States, the Massachusetts General Court did the same. Why? The book The Battle for Christmas, says: “There is no biblical or historical reason to place the birth of Jesus on December 25.” It adds that to the Puritans, “Christmas was nothing but a pagan festival covered with a Christian veneer.” (4)IS THERE A CONNECTION BETWEEN SANTA CLAUS AND JESUS CHRIST BIRTH? ANSWERS-NO The Santa Claus myth owes its origin to Saint Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra in Asia Minor, now Turkey. “Virtually everything written about St. Nicholas is based on legends,” says The Christmas Encyclopedia. The designation “Santa Claus”  owe its origin to the word Sinterklaas, a corruption of the Dutch terms for “Saint Nicholas.” Historically and Biblically, Santa Claus has nothing in common with Jesus Christ. (4)DID JESUS INSTRUCT US TO CELEBRATE HIS BIRTH? ANSWER-NO There is no record in the bible that shows Jesus Christ instructing us to celebrate his birth.His father did not celebrate his birthday neither  did his disciples celebrate it. Infact,the only event Jesus specifically instructed his followers to commemorate was his death, not his birth, and this was to be done as a simple communion meal. (Luke 22:19, 20) Note, too, that the Gospels of Mark and John are silent about Jesus’ birth. (6)AFTER KNOWING THAT CHRISTMAS IS NOT FOR CHRISTIANS, DOES IT STILL MATTER IF I CELEBRATE IT? ANSWER-YES At John 15:14 Jesus said :"You are my friends if you do what I command". Doing what Jesus specifically commanded us to do will show our obedience to God's rulership and will bring blessings to us now and in the future.(Luke 11:28) (5)CAN WE STILL HONOUR JESUS CHRIST IF WE DO NOT CELEBRATE HIS BIRTHDAY? ANSWER-YES HOW TO HONOUR  CHRIST Some feel that regardless of what the actual date is, Christians should still commemorate Jesus’ birth. In their minds such a celebration, when observed in a dignified manner, is an appropriate way to honor Christ.This thinking is however  flawed. The birth of Jesus is indeed an important event in the Bible account. The Bible says that when Jesus was born, a multitude of angels appeared suddenly and erupted in joyful praise to God, saying: “Glory in the heights above to God, and upon earth peace among men of goodwill.” (Luke 2:13, 14) However, it is noteworthy that nowhere in the Bible is there even a suggestion that Jesus’ birthday should be celebrated. In contrast, there is a specific command to commemorate his death, which Jehovah’s Witnesses do once a year. (Luke 22:19) That is one way to honor Jesus. On the last night of his human life, Jesus said: “You are my friends if you do what I am commanding you.” (John 15:14) He also said: “If you love me, you will observe my commandments.” (John 14:15) Clearly, there is no better way to honor Jesus Christ than to learn and follow his teachings. Such erroneous judicial decisions on the recognition of certain extremist printed materials are the basis for all accusations of extremism against Jehovah's witnesses, as well as the basis of the court's decision. On the liquidation and prohibition of all registered organizations of this religion and the confiscation of their property in the revenue of the state. LET JEHOVAH GUIDE YOU WHEN MAKING DECISIONS ~ ? ? ? ? ? When we have to make a decision, we first need to think about what Bible principles can help us and how we can apply them. In some cases, we may want to do more research in our publications or even ask an elder for advice. He could help us to think about other Bible principles. Imagine this situation: A sister is married to someone who is not a Witness. She plans to go out in the ministry on a particular day. (Acts 4:20) But on that day, her husband does not want her to go preaching. He tells her that they have not spent much time together lately and that he would like to take her out somewhere. So the sister considers Bible verses that can help her make a wise decision. She knows that she must obey God and that Jesus commanded us to make disciples. (Matthew 28:19, 20; Acts 5:29) But she also remembers that a wife should be in subjection to her husband and that God’s servants must be reasonable. (Ephesians 5:22-24; Philippians 4:5) Is her husband trying to stop her from preaching, or does he just want to spend time with her that day? When questioned, one of the court-appointed experts further defended her original claim by stating that the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures cannot be considered a Bible unless it is marked "by the blessing of the patriarch"( head of Russian Orthodox Church)  or matches word for word with such a translation. The “experts” also objected to the use of God’s personal name, Jehovah, and claimed that the text of the NWT does not support certain church dogma. The judge rejected any motion by the defense for a new unbiased expert study of the NWT........ After their appeal was rejected today, our brothers have no other remedy available within the Russian legal system and will submit the case to the European Court of Human Rights. Jehovah’s Witnesses around the world are confident that no human institution can succeed in wiping out God’s Word and that present attempts to prevent its spread will ultimately fail. WHY WE MUST STRUGGLE: ~ ????? A biology teacher was teaching his students how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly. He told the students that in the next couple of hours, the butterfly would struggle to come out of the cocoon. But no one should help the butterfly. Then he left. ????? The students were waiting and it happened. The butterfly struggled to get out of the cocoon, and one of the students took pity on it and decided to help the butterfly out of the cocoon against the advice of his teacher. He broke the cocoon to help the butterfly so it didn't have to struggle anymore. But shortly afterwards the butterfly died. ????? When the teacher returned, he was told what happened. He explained to this student that by helping the butterfly, he had actually killed it because it is a law of nature that the struggle to come out of the cocoon actually helps develop and strengthen its wings. The boy had deprived the butterfly of its struggle and the butterfly died. ????? Apply this same principle to our lives. Nothing worthwhile in life comes without a struggle. As parents we tend to hurt the ones we love most because we don't allow them to struggle to gain strength. ????? Jesus’ Birth — How It Brings Peace ~ ??? “Glory in the heights above to God, and upon earth peace among men of goodwill.”Luke 2:14 THE proclamation of “peace among men of goodwill” was not the only prophecy connected with JesusÂ’ birth. In addition to what the angels announced to the astonished shepherds, heavenly messengers had made divinely inspired declarations about the newborn Jesus to Mary and her husband, Joseph. A consideration of these messages will enable us to gain a broader perspective on JesusÂ’ birth and to understand the real significance behind the angelic promise of peace among men. It was indeed “good news of a great joy” for humankind when the angels announced the birth of “a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:10, 11) This child was to be the Messiah, the great Prophet and Ruler that GodÂ’s people had long been expecting. (Deuteronomy 18:18) A prophet I shall raise up for them from the midst of their brothers, like you; and I shall indeed put my words in his mouth, and he will certainly speak to them all that I shall command him." (Micah 5:2) “And you, O Beth?le·hem Eph?ra·thah, the one too little to get to be among the thousands of Judah, from you there will come out to me the one who is to become ruler in Israel, whose origin is from early times, from the days of time indefinite." His life and death on earth would be central to the vindication of JehovahÂ’s universal sovereignty, so that the angels could say: “Glory in the heights above to God.”—Luke 2:14. Please note that the angels did not tell the shepherds of peace and goodwill to all men. Rather, they announced “peace among men of goodwill.” That is to say, among those who are approved by God and have his goodwill. Those who express genuine faith in Jehovah become faithful followers and imitators of Jesus. "Bernard Law could have prevented many children from being sexually abused," he said in a statement to NBC News. "He knew what Father John Geoghan had done and he refused to notify the public. He refused to protect the innocent. Law's death is a reminder — his name is salt in the wound of many victims." In the case that started the scandal, the Globe reported that Law and two of his predecessors as Boston archbishop had moved Geoghan between parishes despite knowing that he molested children. “Roots That Cannot Be Dislodged” ~ ????? A good man cannot, of course, be unrighteous or unjust. So righteousness is also necessary for gaining JehovahÂ’s approval. King David sang: “You yourself will bless anyone righteous, O Jehovah; as with a large shield, with approval you will surround them.” (Psalm 5:12) Contrasting the condition of the righteous with that of the wicked, Solomon says: “No man will be firmly established by wickedness; but as for the root-foundation of the righteous ones, it will not be caused to stagger.”—Proverbs 12:3. The wicked may seem to prosper. Consider the experience of the psalmist Asaph. “As for me,” he says, “my feet had almost turned aside, my steps had nearly been made to slip.” Why? Asaph answers: “I became envious of the boasters, when I would see the very peace of wicked people.” (Psalm 73:2, 3) But as he proceeded to come into the temple sanctuary of God, he came to realize that on slippery ground is where Jehovah had placed them. (Psalm 73:17, 18) Any success that the wicked may seem to achieve is temporary. Why should we be envious of them? In contrast, the one who has JehovahÂ’s approval is stable. Using the metaphor of a strong root system of a tree, Solomon says: “Good men have roots that cannot be dislodged.” (Proverbs 12:3, The New English Bible) The unseen roots of a giant tree, such as the sequoia of California, may cover an area of several acres and can provide solid anchorage in the face of flood and high winds. A towering sequoia can even withstand a powerful earthquake. Like such roots in earthÂ’s nourishing soil, our minds and hearts need to delve expansively into GodÂ’s Word and draw from its life-giving waters.
