It comforts us to know that Jehovah has promised to rescue us from violence and resurrect all his friends (Psalm 72:14). Mysterious sonic weapons reportedly caused brain injuries in US diplomats in Cuba — here's what we know

Mysterious "sonic weapons" have been blamed for symptoms affecting American and Canadian diplomats in Cuba. Victims reported hearing loss, mild traumatic brain injury, nervous system damage, and balance issues. Sound-based weapons exist, but experts aren't sure whether any were actually used in this case. More than 10 US diplomats and their family members in Cuba have experienced strange symptoms including hearing loss, mild traumatic brain injury, and central nervous system damage after being exposed to some kind of mysterious sonic weapon, according to a review of medical records by CBS News.
The Associated Press reported: "After months of investigation, U.S. officials concluded that the diplomats had been exposed to an advanced device that operated outside the range of audible sound and had been deployed either inside or outside their residences. It was not immediately clear if the device was a weapon used in a deliberate attack, or had some other purpose."
But a number of experts aren't sure whether such a device exists.
"There isn't an acoustic phenomenon in the world that would cause those type of symptoms," Seth Horowitz, a neuroscientist and author of the book "The Universal Sense: How Hearing Shapes the Mind," told Business Insider via email.
Horowitz explained that no known inaudible - and seemingly undetectable - device could have the properties attributed to these strange sonic weapons.
Would someone target diplomats with mysterious devices?
Starting in late 2016, a number of diplomats and their family members sought medical attention for mysterious nausea, hearing problems, and balance issues. At least five Canadians have experienced similar symptoms, according to CNN.
The attacks - if that's what they were - appear to have stopped. But it remains unknown what sort of device could have caused these medical issues and who was behind these attacks.

Diplomats have experienced other forms of harassment, like break-ins and surveillance, since the US formally restored diplomatic relations with Cuba in 2015. But a physical attack is unprecedented, and many experts say Cuba has no interest in damaging relations with the US. Some experts have said that the fact Canadians experienced similar symptoms make the possibility of an intentional "attack" even less likely, since Cuba and Canada have a strong relationship.
Because of these factors, experts wonder whether the symptoms could be the result of a third party (potentially from another government) trying to sabotage US-Cuban relations. Others have mused that this could be some sort of eavesdropping device gone haywire.
It "sounds like a science experiment," James Carson, former head of the US Interests Section in Havana, told The New York Times.
For the most part, it seems victims didn't hear anything, which implies the device operates outside the audible range of sound. But CNN's report said two officials also described "a deafeningly loud sound similar to the buzzing created by insects or metal scraping across a floor," though no one knew where that sound came from.
Toby Heys, the leader of Manchester Metropolitan University's Future Technology research center told New Scientist that it's possible for something emitting infrasound - vibrations at a frequency below what humans can hear - to cause hearing loss. But Heys said that would require large subwoofers, making covert deployment unlikely.
Ultrasound devices, which operate above the range of human hearing, exist and could damage the ears, Heys said. But these would need to be directly targeted into the ear.
"Overall, I would be pretty circumspect about the claims to be honest - it is all very Philip K. Dick territory," Heys said. "That said, we are living in a fairly surreal world right now."
Horowitz said via email that without more evidence of these weapons, this incident should be considered a non-story, and that other possible explanations for these medical problems should be considered.

Sonic weapons do exist, but for the most part they are "highly visible and easy to avoid," according to Horowitz.
Such weapons include long range acoustic devices, or LRADs, which emit a shill, loud, disabling sound that can damage the hearing of people more than 900 feet away. These devices have been used by US troops in Iraq, for crowd control in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, and by cruise ships to repel Somali pirates. Similar "sound cannons" were also used by police against protestors at the G-20 meetings in Pittsburgh in 2009.
But those devices are large and emit obvious sounds. A mystery machine that emits harmful, silent waves defies any immediate explanation.
Business Insider has reached out to other experts on non-lethal weaponry and will update this post if a plausible explanation emerges.

For our big meal of the day, my wife and I eat at Golden Corral Restaurant almost every day, because it is right on the way home from her work, and she gets off from teaching school at 3:15PM ... and if you get there before 4PM, you can pay the special LUNCH price, and at 4 PM, the dinner menu comes out,and you can eat STEAK and the Dinner Menu, for the price of lunch.  It is cheaper than buying the same quantity and variety of foods at the grocery stores ... there is no preparation, and NO DISHES! to wash !!
I thought I could eat steak EVERY day, and did for awhile ... but it became "tiresome", and boring ... so in a limited sense I can understand how one might tire of eating people.  I have heard that human flesh tastes "just like pork" ... in fact, one nickname for human flesh is "Long Pig".
IN the Scriptures Jehovah expressed lament that Jews under siege would be driven to cannibalism, and they were ... several times while warring ...BUT HE NEVER PROHIBITED CANNIBALISM !   (... presumably war dead who had bled to death ...), so the definition of "Wrong" would have to come from CULTURAL squeamishness and aversion ... as Jehovah God NEVER said it was wrong to eat people ... just repulsive  as a cultural standard. 
I guarantee you this ... go about three weeks without eating and seeing your children starving to death in front of your eyes will add a great deal of "flexibility" to your outlook on this issue.  In the Soviet Gulags, between barracks, in winter, the prisoners would raid and murder each other, and when the bodies were found, invariably their livers would be missing.
It's really all a matter of perspective, what ideas you are used to, and how hungry you are. 
To me, wasting food is a sin, and protein is protein in an extreme emergency ... AND, Jehovah does NOT really care, except that the blood belongs to him, and must not be eaten.
When I am finished with these "mortal coils" I hope that someone can make use of it, when I no longer can ... and on my driver's license, have indicated that I am an organ donor...
...perhaps with a nice Chianti Wine, and some Fava beans. (chitchitchitchit), and some hungry Brother and his children will have me over, for dinner. ... a "Last Supper", as it were.
I will try NOT to give them indigestion.

If Christ Jesus didn't eat 40 days and nights, I'd pray to eat in the woods! Berries and mushrooms ? but not the magic ones! So far the world ? has gone mad! May we find comfort that it might be better to die then to go into boiling their children like was done in the Bible! Pray that we survive and live forever on a Paradise earth! Lessons learned in life, may be desperate but how many woods ate their for us to learn about and survival? Sometimes it's reliance on Jehovah! No Golden Corrals there I'm afraid ? Fast food ? and cholesterol will be gone forever!

Dozens of people were injured and at least three dead after a powerful typhoon barrelled into Hong Kong and the nearby city of Macao before hitting China on Wednesday, reports said.
Thousands were evacuated from their homes in southern China as Typhoon Hato - the worst storm in the region for five years - slammed into the mainland after flooding streets and uprooting trees in Hong Kong.
The maximum category 10 storm had forced Hong KongÂ’s stock market to close and caused at least 400 flights at the cityÂ’s airport to be cancelled.

Only one service - a KLM flight from Amsterdam – landed on Wednesday morning when the storm’s force was at its height, according to Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post (SCMP) newspaper.
Packing winds of up to 155 kmh (95 mph), the typhoon shattered windows on the cityÂ’s skyscrapers, flooded low-lying areas and blew over public bins across the financial hub.
The No. 10 signal has only been hoisted 14 other times since 1946, or one for every 72 storms, according to the Hong Kong Observatory. The last time it went up was for Typhoon Vicente in 2012.
Hato also brought large-scale power cuts to the gambling hub of Macao, where hotels were turning away customers because of power issues, the SCMP said.

Reports in the former Portuguese colony said three people had been killed, while Reuters said 34 were injured in Hong Kong.
The centre of the storm skirted around Hong Kong, but was close enough to be considered a direct hit under the cityÂ’s storm warning system.
However, it made landfall at midday (05.00am GMT) at Zhuhai, in ChinaÂ’s Guangdong province, Xinhua said.

The Chinese state news agency also said that “thousands of people were evacuated” as the storm approached, and that 400 fishermen were told to return to harbour.

 “The typhoon also comes at a time when the Guangdong coast was busy with tourists and fish farm workers.”

How animals will react to the upcoming solar eclipse

There's something disconcerting about darkness in the middle of the day.
You get a taste of that feeling when a storm suddenly rolls in overhead, but a total solar eclipse, like the one a 70-mile-wide swathcutting across the US will see on August 21, is a far more shocking moment.
Dusk will suddenly begin as the moon temporarily moves in between Earth and the sun. For those in the zone of totality, where the sun will be fully blacked out, a night-like darkness will fall. The world will become cool.
Even the animals will take note. Some reportthat they start acting like it's night, running around in wild ways, or that they stop to observe the event — though much of this is based on anecdotal reports, not well-documented studies. No one knows exactly what most of them will do, but at least some reaction is expected.
"It has been reported during many eclipses that many different animals are startled by totality and change their behavior thinking that twilight has arrived," according to NASA. 
There are only studies on a few different kinds of animals. At least one type of orb-weaving spider has been seen to begin disassembling its webs at the start of the totality, as if it were the end of the day, according to one study. Orb weavers typically destroy their webs and rebuild new ones each morning — they started rebuilding when the sun came back out.
Chimpanzees in a research center at least seemed fascinated and gathered together to seemingly gaze in the direction of the sun during an eclipse, according to another study.
Some people have reported that animals like cows will return to their barns, though that behavior has not always appeared when studied.
Birds have been observed to suddenly go silent as the moment of totality arrives, according to a story published in Audubon.
"Most songbirds will treat it as nightfall, as long as theyÂ’re in the 100 percent in the eclipse pathway," ecology professor Scott McWilliams told Audubon. "Diurnal songbirds will become quiet; nocturnal birds the opposite. Thus, for the most part, silence will follow the darkness."
Owls are likely to be active, and bats might take to the sky as well, according to the Nashville Zoo.
The zoo and a number of other organizations encourage people who want to observe animals and report their behavior to do so on an app created by the California Academy of Sciences called iNaturalist.
Some anecdotal reports are even more fascinating. Observers have said that giraffesand llamas begin to run around, appearing to be confused by whats happening and stopping when it ends.
Even more intriguing is what animals in the ocean may or may not do. Some scientists have said they've seen dolphins and whales rising to the surface in groups at the beginning of a total solar eclipse. "The smarter animals freak out," Douglas Duncan, director of the University of Colorado's Fiske Planetarium, told Time.
As for the sharks? Do creatures that have been around for more than 400 million years take note when the sun suddenly disappear? As shark scientist David Shiffman recently noted on Twitter, we don't really know.
