TrueTomHarley got a reaction from tromboneck in JWs Among the Least Educated in the US
Nobody has a problem with education. it is the assumption that it can only be had in the way the greater world ladles it out that Christians have a problem with.
Many of the Witnesses accomplishments are at the top of the field. For example, the website translated into 900+ languages, which universally wins high praise, (save for that from religious enemies). One sources gushed on about how Wikipedia, Google, and Apple combined do not come close, and what a staggering accomplishment the site was.
Imagine if they knew that only rarely did persons involved have any 4-year college at all.
You acquire your education via the moral training of God's counsel to us. When, later on, you find you need some specialized secular training, you go out and get it - a la carte. You need not subject yourself to the world's model where they get to unscrew your head, pour in their accumulated wisdom, and screw it back on again. Their wisdom has not resulted in a fine world. Where it has resulted in fine things, it is usually technical know-how that you can pick up though other means without all the baggage. The world makes it challenging to get education this way, but with planning it can be done.

TrueTomHarley got a reaction from James Thomas Rook Jr. in What kind of Cosmetics can you use if you are TWO FACED?
For quite some time on my Facebook page I ran quotes from Wikipedia about Lil Abner. Some older friends commented on how they remembered and loved the characters.
I always, always write my own material. But in this case, I simply quoted Wikipedia and left it at that.
And, no, don't ask to friend me. There is a part of me that would like that, but I fear you would not behave.

Given that a man feels he must have a cartoon collection, he cannot do better than the complete works of Gary Larsen and Scott Adams.
Only Al Capp would be an equal, of another generation.

I don't want to let this go quickly because it is typical of how you start with something true and then use it as a platform to lie, or at least deliver unproven & harsh judgements. Nobody slaps Jesus in the face with his own counsel about being  slow to judge more than you.
Your lie, in this case, is that the Watchtower seeks to bankrupt those seeking redress through the courts. It is not necessarily a lie. It may just be a ignorant accusation. Choose for yourself which it is.
In fact, it is impossible to bankrupt a person in this manner, unless this case is very unusual. Deep pocketed legal firms take on these cases - the plaintiff incurs no expense whatsoever - in return for one third of any awarded amount.
There is no question that Bethel has a significant mess on its hands. It turns out there was a real scoundrel in their midst who harmed several people. Whether the legal means employed is the best one or not I am not qualified to say. The point is that you, whose legal library consists of the complete works of Gary Larsen and the complete works of Scott Adams are not qualified to say either.
It is a sad fact of human nature that the more ignorant a person is, the louder they are.

If we concentrate only on negative things we will not call our meeting places a Kingdom Hall but a Lamentation Hall.
Bro Rutherford called it a "Kingdom Hall," let's love and build up each other and give Jehovah and Lord Christ Jesus Our Praise!

Shiwiii delivers his coup de grace (this time for sure!) and Witness immediately high-fives him! They are both so excited!
Both are either too stupid, too deceitful, or too blinded by hate to notice that the Watchtower's letter is exactly based on the scripture that is quoted in the same paragraph. In fact, the two are intertwined, so that they are seemingly impossible to separate save for someone with an 10-foot ax to grind with which to separate the bone from the marrow of those they cannot tolerate. Is it too harsh to say we are dealing with a couple of losers?
In fact, the Watchtower shows more consideration than Paul. Paul simply says 'I'm coming for it - have it ready!' without any detail as to what he will use it for. Why isn't there an account to keep him honest - as has been demanded repeatedly elsewhere?! The Watchtower simply says we can be instructed by Paul's letter - it doesn't twist the arm as he does - and, unlike Paul,  it gives the reason for monies needed: for rent and maintenance.
Even @Witness, who knows the Bible better than anyone in the whole wide world, especially the Governing Body, and who cannot pour herself a bowl of Cheerios without citing five scriptures to justify it, misses this most obvious point in the world - collections in a congregation have full scriptural backing.
Once again,we go back to the point already stated:  nobody is less intrusive about money matters than are Jehovah's Witnesses.

I was outraged when I read this! My blood pressure shot to the moon! They had to call NASA! @Shiwiii is right to warn us about this disgusting book - the Bible. How dare Paul TELL the Corinthian congregation AND the Galatian one and probably every other one - what a racket he had going - to set some money aside every day of the week!!! What a greedy self-serving scoundrel!
What? Is he trying to pretend God needs it? Why does God need our money. It's ours!! Tell him to keep his grubby hands off it!!
Yeah! Sure! You expect me to believe that? He's going to take their kind 'gift'  (extorted, if you ask me!) to the Riviera or Las Vegas for some high living - and fly business class to get there!!! Thank you, Shiwiii, for alerted me to this blatant greed and Bible money-loving. You make a fine investigative reporter.

TrueTomHarley got a reaction from Alexa in "Hit Me and You Die" - Signs of the Last Days
The shrewd student of God's word is not easily tempted by signs of the 'last days.' When someone points to shooting gallery terrorist attacks or imminent World War III, he smiles and moves on. He does not seize upon such low-hanging fruit. It is eye candy, which the evil one dangles before him to get him to jump. It is an intended sucker punch, and he declines to insert his face in the path of the blow.
Instead, he follows the subtle pulse of day-to-day reality, and here he finds the proof - 1000 times in doings so subtle that they miss entirely the attention of the average donkey. He recognizes, for example, that in the pond of urine he spies under every urirnal lies sure proof of the decline of humanity.
In my entire life, I may have spilled two or three drops of urine. The principles of peeing have been understood from the days of righteous Lot. It is not rocket science - or it is the propulsion theories behind it have long been mastered.
Another is seen while driving the very highways and byways of the country. One's eye casually drifts over to the guardrails, with the warm and fuzzy feeling that if you should veer off the road, these mother hens of engineering with ever so gently nudge you back on the road to life, just as @The Librarian gently guides her pupils. What a shock to discover a railing whose end might as well contain the words: 'Hit me and you die!"

Dozens of highly educated engineers have okayed this latest advance in human protection. Score of adminisrators after them. Experts in the field of public safety have said: "I certainly see no problem with that.' Hundreds of people installed them and if they gave feedback - they probably did - their higher-ups rejected it because it came from ignoramuses.
The most telling sign of the last days being imminent is uncovered in the trade publications that monitor real estate and use of office space. In a tiny note on page 337 at the bottom right corner is a notation from the Office of the Devil that he has run out of special places in hell.

If only this fellow could overcome his timidity, he might amount to something.
It certainly would elevate Tesla's stature and would be a great PR move in the dual sense - Puerto Rico and Public Relations. He'd better work with Trump, though, and do it after whatever debt is wiped out, and not before.

Tacking on a 30 minute commute both ways, twice a week, is not nothing. I don't want to blow it off as though it were. There are no examples of great inconvenience in our circuit, but that is not to say it is not so elsewhere.
Nor will I pretend that even loyal ones may not grouse a bit, even as they understand the overall benefit. Of course, disloyal ones will bellow till the cows come home, but even loyal ones may not turn on a dime.
One of the reasons Jehovah's organization works and others do not - and least not on such a scale - is that Witnesses have come to love the entire brotherhood, regardless of where in the world they may live, and do not obsess about their own immediate interests. They don't all figure they have to all go over to Benin and see for themselves and each ponder over the balance statement and have special sessions to discuss it and take a vote on it because no one other than themselves can be trusted - they just don't. They've decided the ones having oversight are trustworthy - they've given no cause to think otherwise, as they adhere to the same healthful scriptural teachings - so they grin and bear it if some policy does not work to their immediate benefit.

Of course. This is a no-brainer. You ought not carry on as though it were evil.
Nor should you carry on about it being a 'corporation.' It is only a corporation because the laws of this world will not let you operate otherwise. Even the old individual halls were usually  'corporations' - as are church bodies - because that is the only way legally permitted for a group to own property. Even the 'apostles and old men' of the first century would have organized themselves as a corporation if that were a necessity to legally operate.
This is a big 'Duh' and for you and yours carry on as though you've discovered the secrets of the dark side is a bit much.

    I'm sure there is.
Whenever I am stuck, I also reach for some highbrow perch from where I can sneer at ones who have not yielded. I wonder too, at how they cope with their 'cognitive dissonance,' - as in:  "Surely your cognitive dissonance must be crippling you if you can withstand the brute force of my brilliant reasoning!"
No, @Shiwiii, your point, which you have repackaged endlessly for re-submission each time you see it shot down, is not valid. It is juvenile.

And surely that statement can be turned around 180 degrees - with you misunderstanding me.
If you are going to say the most offensive things as casually as you breathe air, you cannot sniff and sob that 'nobody understands me' when you are called on it.

And the evil scheme was all fulfilled with an extra slot at the Kingdom Hall, about a foot from the other slot!!!
I swear this is nothing but jealousy. I mean, what's it to Shiwiii?  If Jehovah's Witnesses flood the coffers in response to very little prodding, what does he care? Can it be anything more than - alright, I am projecting now, as JTR would say, but you would have to be obtuse not to do it - an intense dislike for the message Jehovah's Witnesses preach, and so a trumped up charge that they are somehow doing it underhandedly, crying crocodile tears with a feigned concern for ones so 'deceived'? All the evidence indicates Witnesses are quite satisfied and don't feel deceived at all. I don't. It is every other interest eternally trying to get in my pocket that I must watch closely for chicanery. The more respected they are, the greater the concern.
No Witness would ever make such a charge. They look around and see donated funds being put to good use. They know the GB and ranking Bethelites live in dormitories - nice dormitories, to be sure, but dormitories nonetheless. If they travel, they run up no hotel or restaurant bills. They amass no retirement plans, so should they leave Bethel, their means are very simple (and those who bitch about money collection also bitch about THAT!!!). Nobody makes a dime in salary. There has barely been any concern ever other than newbie @JW Insiderlosing his wallet to a BA deadbeat. And Brother Knorr tried to warn him that could happen, but he was too starry-eyed to pay attention.
