Jesus gives illustrations and stories and saying routinely, and he rarely explains any of them. He relies upon 'the heart' to discern them. Perhaps it is something like that at Matt 24:39. @JW Insidershowed many Bibles that render it differently than 'took no note.' I wonder if there are / what Bibles that render it similarly and what is the rationale each side has for doing what they do.

TrueTomHarley got a reaction from tromboneck in What is a Christian Man's MORAL responsibility to protect his own life, or that of his immediate or spiritual family?
Perhaps that is good counsel and I should be chastened by it. I will be.
I would hope that the image of someone lying such a thing routinely, casually and openly by their seat in this most non-violent of all places would be instantly recognized as a joke. But you're right. Humor does not universally translate. And there are many humorless people around. And humor is a spice at best; it is by no means a requirement for life. And it is a hair-trigger topic today.
    Point taken.

Just like in April I will again try to keep everyone here up to date with a minute by minute translated transcript of the court hearings beginning on Monday. Pray for Jehovah's will to be done and His name to be glorified. Bruce

TrueTomHarley, thanks for the low-down about the zany.   I guess I have to accept that when a man "gots to communicate", a man "gots to communicate" - however that communication may be presented.

There is a lot of disrespect on these pages, good sister, and some outright apostacy. It is not the Assembly Hall. Technically speaking, I should not be here, nor anyone seriously attempting to follow counsel on cultivating fine association even on social media. I have tried to escape but each time find myself trapped in the vortex and drawn back into doing battle with a handful of persons whom I consider ignoramuses. (allowing for the premise, which some feel is doubtful, that I myself am one of the 'good guys') It is too late for me, but not too late for others to flee to the mountains.
Seriously, Maid in UK, I mean no disrespect to the theocratic interests. (I mean plenty of disrespect to some others) Not everyone appreciates 'zany' and some who do appreciate it think it inappropriate to apply to kingdom interests. I beg forgiveness in that case. If you can put up with an idiosyncrasy, I assure you that in my circuit I don't think there is a soul who does not like me, for I am, first of all, a peacemaker and I am not wound up too tight.
Unfortunately, I am also a communicator and I gots to communicate.

I like it that the 80 year old elder tells his smart phone to remind him next year of John's wife's death anniversary. Even I, a regular right here on the WorldNewsMediaForum, am not savvy enough to do that.
I also like it that when the Bible is put down, the pages unfurl into a freeze-frame that is our badge. How cool is that?

The odds-makers also took bets about whether Lady Gaga would diss the President at the Superbowl. Alas, I do not bet, for I would have cleaned up. She is an up-and-coming artist, thrilled to be doing the gig of her career. She's going to screw that up by alienating half her audience?

Why do you think there is to be a new system? Because God is enthralled over the noble independence-seekers of this one?
Rather than become focused over a trifle, it is good to consider Nathanial Hawthorne's take: "People who think the most bold of thoughts have no difficulty conforming to outward norms of society."
Nobody thinks thoughts more bold than Jehovah's Witnesses.
Actually, I think the reverse is also true. People who kick up a huge fuss over trifles tend to be the most conformist of all when it comes to bold things. Wear a beard if you want to. No one ever said you couldn't. You just would have to endure some peer pressure, and thus, might decide it was not worth it. That is the aspect that appears to be changing.

a whole lot a anointin going on.
All anointing, whether true or mistaken, is self-professed. There are 8 mil JWs worldwide? How significant is a  6.4K jump? I have known several 'modern' partakers - not all for whom you would say 'well, of course!'
I like it that the GB is drawn from persons who are A.) annointed, and B.) annnointed, who have proved their dedication through decades of full-time service, performing a ministry more lowly than most of those whom they later will lead.

TrueTomHarley got a reaction from Thinking in ALL aspects of 1914 doctrine are now problematic from a Scriptural point of view
If this is a reference to 607 (it is not JWI's fault if I do not do my homework), I think of the expression 'it is the victors that write history.' It is a political statement regarding world powers, but it applies to everything. Certainly, science is fraught with accounts of one view coming into vogue, and then crushing the opposition for as long as possible.
My understanding is that some scholarly type has written a defense of 607. That's all you need. Not one Witness teaching is the majority view today; should we insist this one must be? For all the hype about 'critical thinking' today, the pattern remains what it has always been; in fact, it intensifies: choose your belief (largely based on 'heart') then go find some 'experts' to back you up.
Will 1914 fall? If it does, it does. But I am far from burying it just yet. Nor do I feel I should encourage the GB to have the wisdom and courage to do whatever is right. If I drop dead tomorrow, they will do just fine.
I have grown used to explaining that 'if the greatest war in history, the ONLY time until then that the entire world went to war at the same time (China & region excepted, as it was isolated at the time), AND if the greatest pestilence in history does not constitute fulfillment of Matt 24:7 and Luke 21:10, 11, what does? Vs 8 of Matt indicates it starts off with a bang, but continues for some time.
Will I have to change my tune on this?
On the vs 8 'you ain't seen nothin' yet' front, terrorist knife or vehicle attacks, unheard of not long ago, are now just 'one of those things.' The gay revolution took decades; whereas the transgendered revolution has taken mere months, and a 9 year old girl can be, on National Geographic, not just transgendered, but a transgendered activist. 'Fake news,' absolutely unheard of just 3 years ago, is now a staple of life, one more of many pitfalls to mess with us.
Perhaps 1914 will suffice to get us through to the end. Maybe that won't be so far off after all.
