BLUE EARTH - A Christian memorial service for Melvin William Klopp, 98, of Blue Earth will be 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 617 S. Rice St., Blue Earth.

Melvin passed away Friday, Sept. 30, 2016, at St. Luke's Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth. Cremation was handled by Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont.

Melvin William Klopp was born Jan. 31, 1918, in Baldwin, Wis., the son of William and Margaret (Eckmann) Klopp. The family later moved to Fairmont, Minn., where Melvin and his 14 siblings went to public school. After graduation, he attended Worthington Junior College, where he met his future wife, Donna Janice Paulson. They had a beautiful happy marriage of 66 years. Together, they had four children: Marti, Doug, Julie and Laurie. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a constant joy to him and Donna. There was always laughing and joy in their household. They lived a number of places over the years, but mostly Bloomington, Fairmont, and Blue Earth.

He was a very strong, intelligent, capable man who could do anything he put his mind to. Some of his jobs were a millwright, painter and house builder. He had a successful drywall business, a commercial cleaning service, and later, an upholstery shop among other skills. And, he even enjoyed making wine, different kinds of cheese at the Pine Cheese Mart owned by the Klopp family in Pine Island, Minn., and applesauce from the neighbors "windfall" apples.

Some of the things he enjoyed the most had to do with teaching Bible truths to others. He had an excellent knowledge of the Bible, and his hope in a new paradise on Earth soon to come was very strong in his heart. "There are a new heavens and a new earth that we are awaiting according to his (God's) promise, and in these righteousness is to dwell." (2 Peter 3:13) That promise gives all mankind the hope of better conditions right here on earth. We can take comfort in knowing that soon we will be united when they are resurrected to a restored earth and restored health and youth.

Melvin is survived by his children and their families, Marti (Tom) Geist, and their children, Jason (Cynthia and daughter Nataya), Sean (Alayet), Matthew (Sandy and children, Allyson and Sara); Doug (Linda) Klopp, and their children, Joel (Mary and son, Miles), Helenka Whale (children, Jude, Cooper, Lochlainn, Maisie), Gretel (Randy) Dorn, Liesl Klopp; Julie Augustine and children Nicole (Shawn and children, Sawyer and Liam) Birdsall, Alex Augustine; Laurie (Terry) McGettigan and children, Dayton Harbo and Keith McGettigan.
