An appalling truth not commonly brought up in the modern media, human zoos existed till the late 1950s, and were popular in Europe (especially in Germany, France and Belgium) and America, where Social Darwinism was widely accepted. They exhibited people from races deemed ‘primitive,’ mostly Africans, but also indigenous Americans and Asians. Some human zoos also featured dwarfs, albinos, and hunchbacks.

These people were thrown into cages and were made to do various stuff that would enable visitors to observe them in their ‘natural habitat.’ These activities included carrying apes, performing their tribal dances, and playing tribal sports like archery, among others.

Some pictures now.

Sometimes they were made to stay without wearing clothes. These are three black girls in a Parisian human zoo where they were put to display their buttocks and elongated labia.
