Azalee Montgomery Lee passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2016, at the age of 62. Born on Sept. 24, 1954, in Mayesville (Sumter County), she was the daughter of Josephine Montgomery Green and reared in the home of her maternal grandmother, the late Emma Marshall Montgomery McFadden of Mayesville.

Azalee was united in matrimony on Sept. 3, 1977, to Arthur Lee, and together they celebrated 39 years of marriage.

She was a graduate of Mayewood High School, Class of 1972. She was employed as a seamstress for Charm House Fabrics for 29 years, and most recently retired from employment from Sumter County Disabilities and Special Needs Board as a residential care staff (15 years).

Azalee enjoyed spending time with her family, shopping and caring for her two grandchildren, Kaelyn (Toot) and Rhian EmmaLee (Rebbie). She was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need and extended that love and compassion on her job, with her family and in the community.

Azalee was baptized as a Jehovah's Witness; she was an active member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses - Sumter East Congregation. Above all, she wanted to honor Jehovah, the God of the Bible and the Creator of all things. She did her best to imitate Jesus Christ and was proud to be called a Christian. She regularly spent time helping people learn about the Bible and God's Kingdom.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur Lee; daughter, Quanda (Ryan) Boykin; two grandchildren, Kaelyn and Rhian EmmaLee; mother, Josephine M. Green of Sumter; one brother, Cecil (Cherrise) Montgomery of Toronto, Canada; one sister, Beverly A. Montgomery of Sumter; four aunts, Viola (Alonza) Wilson of Hampton, Virginia, Lucretia Montgomery and Janie Montgomery of Sumter and Hattie Montgomery of Mayesville; mother-in-law, Geneva Lee of Mayesville; four sisters-in-law, Betty Commander, Annie Gore and Ozeta Herriott, all of Sumter, and Jesse (Marvin) Harrell of Anderson; one brother-in-law, Kelton (Carrie) Lee of Sumter; two cousins reared together in the home, Evelyn Montgomery of Mayesville and Tommie Lee Montgomery of Baltimore, Maryland; and a host of extended family, friends and community neighbors.

Azalee was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Emma Marshall Montgomery McFadden; stepfather, Cecil Green; brother, Ronnie S. Montgomery; four uncles, Alfonso, Joe Louis, Sammie and Tommie Lee Montgomery; father-in-law, Luther Lee Sr.; sister-in-law, Dora Lee; and brothers-in-law, Luther Jr., Willie James, Bobby "Bunny" and Harby Lee.

Public viewing will be held today from 2 to 6 p.m. at Job's Mortuary.

Memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Jehovah's Witness-East Congregation, 99 Oswego Road, Sumter.

Family will be receiving friends at 3755 Delaware Drive, Dalzell, SC 29040.

Job's Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St. is in charge of arrangements.
