James Bryant Hughes, 81, of Mallard Lake Drive, Danville, Va., passed away on Friday, February 10, 2017, at Danville Regional Medical Center due to heart complications. Mr. Hughes was born in Danville, Va. on March 25, 1935, a son to the late Worth Hughes and Ollie Thaxton Hughes. He had lived all of his life in Danville where had worked for Good-Year Tire& Rubber Plant in the chemical compounding development department as a mixing technician for tire formulas. He retired from Goodyear in December of 1999, with 31 years of service. Prior to Goodyear, he had worked fin the bindery and as a press operator in Dan River Mills printing department and as a journeyman and linotype operator in the composing room as a type setter for the Danville Register & Bee Publishing Company. Bryant married the love of his life in 1953, Sylvia Gobble Hughes who died on September 14, 2014. He was a member of the North Congregation of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Bryant is survived by their five children, Mark Hughes (Kay), Lynn Hughes (Julie), Sandra H. Self (Larry), Gena Hughes, Jon Hughes; eight grandchildren, Shelley Hughes, Brynn Hughes, Casey Hughes, Jeri Hughes, Hayley H. Bryant, Colby Self, Logan Self and Lucas Self. He and Sylvia were also blessed with five great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service for Bryant will be conducted on Monday, February 13, 2017,at 7 p.m. from the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Elder Al Valentine. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and at other times they will be at the residence of his son, Markand Kay Hughes, 460 Loomfixer Lake Road, Danville, VA 24541. Bryant felt that his greatest accomplishment in life was his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren whom he dearly loved with all of his heart.
