Mr. Howard Randolph Pitman, Sr., age 82, of Rome, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at a local assisted living facility.

Howard was born on May 23, 1934 in Atlanta, GA, son of the late Robert Pitman and the late Lillie Sorrow Pitman.  Mr. Pitman grew up as a farmer, up until the age of 19, in the southern Atlanta area.  When he moved with his family, he stated he “cried like a baby to leave his best friend behind at the farm, Grey, his beloved mule.”  He joined the United States Army in 1954 and later went on the work at Lockheed Martin as Tool and Die Constructor, retiring at the age of 65.  As he was living with Randy and Donna, he reminisced of the days when he was on the farm and how much he truly loved living there.  He also looked forward to the time when living in Paradise, he could be a farmer once again, growing the perfect watermelon.  Howard looked forward to being able to meet his parents in the new world.  He came to appreciate the promises of Jehovah and truly loved everyone at the Kingdom Hall.  In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Dewayne Pitman, Marietta, and by 3 brothers, Johnny Pitman, Ft. Worth, TX, Joseph Pitman, Atlanta, and David Pitman, Austell.

Survivors include 2 sons, Howard R. Pitman, Jr., and his wife, Donna, Rome, and Joseph Lyndon Pitman, and his wife, Joyce, Marietta; 2 daughters, Melissa Crawford, and her husband, Hershall, Amarillo, TX and Tami Leigh Fill, Marietta; 1 sister, Kay Scarborough, and her husband, Jim, Tucker, GA; grandchildren, Michael Poole, and his wife, Lorie, Silver Creek, Christian Fill and Caleb Fill, both of Social Circle, GA; great-grandchildren, Joshua David Poole, Silver Creek and Aaron Jacob Poole, Rutherfordton, NC; numerous nieces, nephews and other in-laws also survive.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at 2pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2527 Cedartown Highway, Rome, with Bro. Grady Stewart officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Kingdom Hall on Saturday, from 12pm until 1:45pm. At other hours, they may be contacted at their respective residences.
