The daughter of the late Jane Oaks and Ranzie Riddle, of Spruce Pine, Betty was preceded in death by sisters Anne Nichols and Katherine Revis; brothers, Jack Riddle and Harold Riddle. She has one remaining sibling, Phyllis Sparks, of Florida.

Betty was trained as a dental assistant and worked in that field for many years, after leaving Florida and moving back to Yancy County, she worked for W.A.M.Y. doing outreach work with the mountain women of the area.

She was a member of the Burnsville Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and since moving to Bluffton, South Carolina, to be near her daughter, attended the Kingdom Hall in Bluffton whenever she could.

Betty was an avid gardener and could make just about anything grow. She enjoyed reading and watching birds at her feeders. She loved spoiling her little rescue dog, Buttons, and spending time with her daughter, her friends and a good beer.

She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Duncan Nelson, of Bluffton, South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service for family and friends will be held at a later date.
